I'm glad this was brought up bc as a former Christian " the good MAN up above" was a common saying. G-d the Father was an old man with long hair and a beard who lived in heaven. That's how G-d was depicted. I find myself having trouble saying HE when referring to Hashem. It just doesn't seem right bc G-d IS our Creator and not the created. I do believe ALL of us are given the spiritual breath of life by the Almighty when brought into this world. Some of us think of the Almighty as HE and some as G-d IS. I'm of the latter ilk. Thank you Rabbi. :o)

I would say otherwise. The Almighty relates to us as a "father", not as a "mother". That will not change. Unfortunately, this was a very unclear conversation taken in isolation.

Rabbi Manis is mistaken when he claims that God has needs. Since God has to be pure actuality it follows that he lacks nothing. If God lacks something then he is not God. To lack something is an imperfection, at least to the extent that one lacks something; so if God has needs, and therefore lacks something, then it follows that he is imperfect to the extent that he has those needs. God created us for a purpose but that does not mean that he needs us to cooperate with him; it means that he wants us to cooperate with him for our own sake. Creation is pure gift.
