Ron, a great recovery and I hope it brings closure to the poor family. The awfulness of their tragedy is hard to imagine. I have to question your rigging early in the operation though. You started with a two part line from winch to Yankum back to skidsteer, so if you have say 10k pounds on the line from the winch you have 20k on the Yankum and then 10k on the skidsteer. You then went to a three-part rig, as far as I can see by adding a snatch block to the skidsteer and taking the standing part out to a tree. This can't increase the pull on the Yankum at all, as far as I can see all it does is double the load on the skidsteer and load the tree. So assuming again 10k pounds on the winch, you have 20k on the Yankum due to the double line, 20k on the skidsteer due to the double line, and 10k on the tree. It's not helping shift the wreck, and it's not reducing the load on the winch. Should you not have taken the winch line back from the skidsteer to the shackle on the Yankum rather than the tree? Perhaps I am missing something. Please be assured that this is not intended to be a criticism, I'm just puzzled about what you achieved by adding the extra block in that way. Regardless it was another fine job by you and the team, you are truly good people, God bless.

You are correct. The redirect off the skid steer to the tree only split the load on the skid steer and did nothing to increase the winch capacity. I know better and I'm not certain why I didn't realize it at the time. That's basic rigging, which, I'm normally very good at. Basic rule....Count the lines to the load. I didn't create the third line to the load. What I should have done was taken it from the tree, back to the skid steer and then back to the load. That would have put the majority of the load on the skid steer, which was well anchored, and reduced the load on the winch, but, I did not. Even if we had, I don't believe the winch would have had enough power. When we had the 9055XL on it, (a 50,000 lb winch) with the line fully unspooled, which is the highest pull rating on the winch, it still struggled with the little SUV. There is no telling how much that thing weighed with 5 years worth of silt and rock. We persevered and completed the recovery, hopefully bringing some closure to the family.

Yes, I saw that as well. The physics of it, put the third leg to the load. Regardless, that little winch would have never been able to free that as much as it was anchored in the creek bed. But more importantly, it was the teamwork, the perseverance and the spirit of everybody involved, To bring closure to that poor family. God bless everyone involved.

I wonder if a Hi-Lift Jack under the rear bumper hitch would have helped get the SUV up out of the creek bed making it easier to pull sideways and out. So sorry about this family's loss of an unforeseen tragedy... My prayers and well wishes go out to them. 🙏❤‍🩹

Yeah, an impressive demonstration of skill, for sure. Especially for those of us who done similar ourselves and understand just how difficult it is. Oscar made it look a lot easier than it really is, especially with the lack of traction on the drives. Reminds me Talon backing up that combo rig hooked to the Western Star into a really tight parking space way back when (it basically amounted to backing a Rocky Mountain Double for an extended distance, which take some SERIOUS skill and experience). Ron seems to really inspire greatness in his team. Either that, or he has some kind of statistically impossible magical ability to hire only the top 0.5%, of the absolute best, of the top elite.

First, to the family. I hope this brings you closure and helps you on your path forward. Sean, I hope you are able to get closure as well. As a former EMT I understand the frustration of not being able to save someone. And Ron, you are an incredible human being. Many years ago I drove wreckers, and I worked for people who only cared about money. As I watch your videos and see you interact with people, it’s clear that you care about the people. I’m not naive, I know this kind of work can get expensive, and I know you are running a business, but you never forget the human factor, from the prayers for people who were involved in accidents, to seeing you go out of your way to get a car into a better position so that a handicapped lady could get out easier, to what you did for Terry. It’s clear where your heart is. God bless you and all of you employees and family! PS. Ron when you said you doing this for free, you reinforced everything I said above.

Thank you, Ron, and especially the family, for allowing this tragic story to be told. The whole team did a fantastic, professional and respectful job in recovering the vehicle. Five years in the creek is a long time and allows a goodly amout of silt and vegetation to accumulate. In spite of the challenges, set-backs and overall difficulty, the job was completed. Well done. You, and the team, have gone up in my estimation. However, it's not about you, it's all about giving God the glory and that's what you did al the way down the line. I had to take a couple days to comment after watching the recovery. I live in Richmond Hill GA where after TS Debby went through we had a lot of rain run off and water from busted damns up north come through. We had several neighborhoods under 5-6 of water because the rivers couldn't handle the the flow from above us. So watching this while helping my community deal with flooded areas hit. And on top I had a Facebook reminder from August 2014. I was 25 miles south where hurricane Charlie hit and had to deal with flooding myself at the time. So see you go out of the way to help is a blessing to that family and a blessing to the community. Thank you Midwest for giving her closure and God bless all of you.

A few random comments. 1. I hope you got the snakes out before you dropped that back in your yard. 2. I'd thought about taking it out a piece at a time. Turns out with the snakes, that would have been a bad idea. 3. Had you considered putting the skidsteer under the other end as you were pulling? That would have made the pull easier, and might have been able to do some steering for you as well. 4. I'm glad that you were able to do this without injury to any of your people. Hardware can be repaired or replaced. But your crew is irreplaceable. 5. Last but certainly not least, This will help the family get some closure. It won't bring the kids back, but it tidies up a loose end and that will help the healing process.

Something about this job, brought me back to the wonderful memory of Ron & his dad, retrieving the rental truck up in the forest hills, using an itty bitty ATV winch, that they had to 6-line it I think, cause it didn't have the power to retrieve an 7000 pound van. It was so wholesome to see Ron & his dad work together on that, I was deeply humbled. Having said all that, with the simularties of this job, burning up a winch on a truck, I really feel that this was a much tougher job. Good job getting the car out, 5-years later. But now its time to buy a new winch, some new winch line, and a new Yankem rope.

The difficulty in getting the SUV out, with sweat, exhaustion, damage, learning through doing, patience, taking a step back to try something different, using a variety of resources, some good moments with a smile here and there, and the comradery in a shared experience with teammates each applying their skills to a positive outcome, was like a metaphor of what a family goes through during a lifetime of dealing with tragic loss. I think it probably helped the family to see that and to be there to support Ron and his team, as much as they were there to support the family.

Great recovery session for everyone involved. Lots of lessons learned on this one including the family who probably didn't conceive how much would be involved. Lots of gear broken. Hell of a clean up job coming up off camera. Glad no snakes were harmed in the making of this video which is a good thing as well. You too Ron. You certainly were at the heavy end of the cable. I was worried for you.

Ron, the world is a better place with you in it. The Lord blessed your area when he put you there. Thank you for the videos and to help bring some closure to the family. I was good until I saw the procession come across the bridge and now it's raining in my eyes. God bless you and yours sir.

What a great job. And to do it for free, too. Amazing stuff, Ron. I was unexpectedly emotional about this job, especially the procession at the end. You're a good man with a good team around you, and I hope the family appreciated everything you did for them.

Ron, I know you probably won't see a comment on a 2 month old video, but I have to say that this is one of your most profound videos. You chose to do something very good for someone hurting, even at considerable difficulty to yourself. That is an admirable quality. When I watch your recoveries I always try to figure out how I'd do it, as you like to say, there are several ways to add up to 10. What I found funny on this one was that you ended up doing it almost exactly how I thought it would have to be done. Right off the bat, as soon as I saw the car up close, I knew you were going to need the big truck to get it out. I also figured you'd have to winch it in. I'm no tow operator, but I've been a farmer and construction worker, so I've gotten lots of stuck stuff out (and gotten lots of stuff stuck getting other stuck stuff out, but that's another long story) and it was pretty plain to me that no pickup winch, especially an electric one, was going to do the job. Two thoughts that I had, that might have made a difference are trying to shake the car loose before trying to pull it out of the river. Go across the top with a strap to the far side and just tension and release to break suction and get it out of the mud. The rotational leverage makes it lift the far side much easier than just pulling on the near side. After a couple of shakes you hook up as you did and it should come out a bit easier. Second, my thought would have been as soon as it was across the river to get under it with the skid-steer and lift it up and rig to the bottom so you got some lift and it didn't dig in as much. You did that later up the course, but that could have been done right up front and maybe saved you some struggles. Well done, though. That was not going to be easy no matter what you did! Oh, and what happened to the snakes?

We read every comment on every video, we just don't always have the opportunity to reply. No comment appears unless we approve it, we want this channel to remain family friendly. This was a job that we were "all in" for. Of course when you view it after the fact, we see things we could have or should have done differently. When the day was done, the constant painful reminder was removed from sight. As for the snakes?????? Well, the HOPE is that they found other homes on the way to our shop. We haven't seen any of them, but there are bodies of water fairly close by. That's one things I DO NOT LIKE!!!!!!! Thank you for watching and God bless

Ron, thank you for helping bring the family closure. What an incredible and complicated recovery! I really appreciate that you are always courteous to everyone around you, and that you take the time to teach your crew the "why" of what you do - for example, explaining the 3:1 rigging to Shelby. You are a blessing to everyone you encounter.
