Hey Martin, even after working in the industry for 20 years I can't tell you how many customer cars that I bought that were totaled for the same reasons as yours. They all drove perfect they just needed a few expensive parts that I knew how and where to get them. Your project is looking great ! People can't get it through their heads that you can do the work by hand with no special tools except their minds ! I think you are a great positive person that teaches in a way that others can understand ! Cheers

Great Vid Martin! I had a Dodge Caravan (a minivan in Canada), someone backed into the driver's side sliding door (no other damage), and the insurance company wrote the car off. I bought the van back from the ins. company and bought a good replacement door (same color!) at the salvage yard for $100, installed it myself. Sometimes the write-off practice is BS! Ps.cute grandkids!

Im currently repairing my mates rusty wing on his Focus mk2. They always go at the bottom. I masked off where i was painting and looked a dogs dinner. I then realized that you only have to mask the around the area you're doing eg the wheel etc to avoid overspray. It wants a bit more filler as the metal is pitted to death then once that's done have another go at it. Even though we have the correct paint blending it will be quite hard.

Martin, other channels could learn a great deal from you with your use and choice of background music. It’s just the right level and of the sort not to be distracting but rather compliments. So often it’s either way to loud or it’s some sort of modern dance music or autotuned to death vocals and as soon as I here either the video gets a thumbs down and I don’t watch their channel again. Keep up the good work.

I would have fitted the bumper and bolted it to ensure everything lines up. Once you know this, then you can check how everything fits and looks around it. With it not fitted, there may be a problem later as parts may bulge out. Better to sort and address this as early as possible.

Did a Ferrari 308 years ago damaged front wing was ripped open , boss said no filler so leaded it , wanted tiny amount of filler to finish so said to boss can I give a little skim NO FILLER I said can I use 2 pack stopper NO FILLER he said again , so skimmed with 2 pack stopper LOL .
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
Haha, Lead loading is something i've only done once 30 years ago.
@johnmorrow70806 жыл бұрын
Leaded nearly everything back then or file up , filler was a last resort , I used to have bets with the boss I could do the biggest repair without filler , when I went to another garage the boss would go nuts because he wanted to replace panel and I would repair them , putting door skins on for a screwdrivered doorlock I would weld rip up and file up panel , in the town we were doing 2 or 3 door lock repairs a week , in the sticks they were doing 1 a month .

Great video (as ever). Next time you do some hammering could you give us a few seconds of real time to get a feel for how much effort/speed you use?? Apart from that I reckon every "yuff" should be made to have a car like that and cut their teeth on making it work. You can learn so much but I fear the skills you show will be out if we're not careful and then stealers will have it all their own way 😢😢

Not usually a fan of pattern parts alot of the time they don't fit properly or need a bit of work to fit in but at least that bumper does fit correctly. I can't imagine how much a genuine Vauxhall one would cost.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
I'd say a few hundred pounds Michael. Not for me i'm afraid lol
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
Its extortionate and that pattern part is just as good.
@jack211111g6 жыл бұрын
Sounds nasty but why spend 70 pound on a bumper that needs painting wen you can go to local scrappies n pay no more than 30 pound 🤔 I’m honestly asking a question how come ??
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
First, you have to find one in the same colour that isn't damaged, then you have to either have it shipped or collect it, then you have to remove the 2 wings and reinstall. All of that when I possess the skills to fix a minor repair like this with very little hassle and it gives me something to film for my KZbin channel. That's why.
@brianpercival18296 жыл бұрын
Getting closer to the finish. Another great 'How To' video on body repair. YES. Back ground music tracks are fine here. Obnoxious music videos can ruin a persons viewing experience. I noted a few times a new YT poster was using his own music preference. Hip hop nonsense. I couldn't watch without muting. Then was just annoying. Had to unsubscribe. Always pick a back ground that is generally accepted by all. Or none if it turns people away.
