It still blows my mind that ppl get offended when someone else much rather take stuff that somebody else threw away because they not bother with it or want the items no more but to be pissy with divers to not see good reusable items fill up landfills. Keep diving and help ppl in need and so our landfills aren't filling up with more stuff!! And I am so sorry to hear of your loss with Pilgrim. When I see you going to those really large dumpsters pulling stuff out that's on top I can't help but wonder about all the stuff that's underneath that could have been saved. It's really a shame they don't have a set up to make it as easy to donate as it is to throw away. It's such a shame. You would think that there would ge some church groups that could organize to take in usable stuff. Like having a panel van stationed by to take good stuff.

At Temple University they have a donations section right in the main lobby of each dorm hall. But my daughter found so many things left behind just in her roommates room. Crazy. But I guess they thought it was cheaper to buy it again than ship it back to CA? Who knows but wow. So much waste. Knowing first hand how much is bought new to set these kids up as freshman it’s just nuts that you aren’t able to help yourself to it and gift it to others.

These schools should be ashamed of themselves for not implementing some sort of program to donate these perfectly good things! You guys are doing the earth and, therefore, us all a free service. Frustrating that they don’t allow you guys to be there! Liability, I know. But gosh so horribly horribly wasteful! Makes me sick at my stomach! It would be cool if you could contract with the school (and sign a disclaimer that you won’t hold school responsible should you become injured on their property). You could issue 1-2 specially colored giant bags to issue each student who would leave them in a designated place. You and Alex could then rent a huge uhaul and pick all of this stuff up on designated day(s). I think you should pitch it to them in the name of helping to better care for and be better stewards of the earth!
@breafkast2 жыл бұрын
100% agree. The schools need to provide a common space for students to leave unwanted items for others!! I received comments on my TikTok from students saying their specific university does provide donation bins or thrift store programs - I would love to see it required for all schools!

The school by rights cannot involve themselves into students private property, they cannot dictate what students "should do" with their own personal property. We don't need anymore officials telling us what we can and cannot throw away that's what got us into this mess of over producing or exceeding the demand of products. Not to mention their personal effects will eventually go to the landfill it's just being delayed. I read comment after comment "oh you're saving the landfill!" No these things don't disappear! they will be in the landfill soon enough. Enjoyed! When I helped my daughter move our of UCSB, the dumpsters were epic! People would even put larger things on the sidewalk and if you weren't careful to keep your eyes on it, it would disappear before you could load it on your truck!! She was the last to move out of a house she sublet a room in and people left soooo much stuff, she started putting it on "free or for sale" facebook group for her campus, or took it home to sell online. I'm still using a Costco plastic wrap she brought home from 4 years ago!! lol Be sure to join that facebook group for this campus for free stuff, or to list free (or for sale) stuff you want to get rid of. You will be spoiled from this week when you get back to regular diving.

Pam, moving out of that very same campus years ago, I can tell you that students have very little time to pack everything up that they have accumulated during the school year. That big round blow up circle you thought was a dog bed. Is in fact a blow up foot stool. Plus any clothing/soft toys/cushions/soft furnishings and teddie you get that smell of cigarette smoke etc. Leave to soak over night in a bucket of hot water and fabric softner. Then put into your washing machine wash as normal. If its to big to soak just put into your washing machine and wash. As someone who was married to a smoker just washing items once sometimes twice gets rid of the smell Jax in UK
