We Found Our Dinner in the Trash! Dumpster Diving in Michigan & Camping in the State Park.

Welcome back to my dumpster diving channel! We went diving in Michigan and thankfully found another yoga mat for the tent - now we each have a little more cushion for the nights we go camping. We also found our entire dinner for free in the trash! Yes there are 5 great lakes but Michigan technically only has 4 of them. Lake Ontario touches Canada and New York. Not sure that you were taught how to read correctly.

The squeal I let out when I saw you guys were in Ann Arbor! I run an Ann Arbor dumpster diving account on IG, and I've been diving where you guys were diving! 🙂 Side note about the grocery stores - there is a pretty extensive food recovery network in the area through an organization called Food Gatherers. Lots of local grocery stores donate their goods to distribute locally.

Eggs don’t need to be refrigerated so that’s a plus and all the fruit too, great diving. Enjoy the remainder of your vacation 😊

Eggs in the United States DO need to be refrigerated because they are washed. Washing removes the protective layer on eggs that keep out things such as salmonella, etc. if you get them directly from a farm that does not wash eggs then they do not need refrigeration.

Eggs aren't bleached 😆 The color of the egg depends on the color of the chicken that's laying it. White chickens lay white eggs.

Don't underestimate the lakes in Michigan. They can be disceptive. Look calm with wicked undertows. Also be careful around strangers in any state you travel. Just sound advice. Happy and safe travels.

We just came back from a road trip with our small caravan, Brisbane to Rockhampton, Queensland. We are nearly 70, and 73. Too old for camping on the ground but that is how we used to do it. 50+ years ago we did a couple of camping trips in New Zealand with just a 2-man tent without a floor in it, North Island a few times and once right around the South Island. I was born on the shores of Lake Ontario, a smaller Great Lake but still big enough to feel like the ocean. In adult life I have had the real Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. Keep travelling, I love the way you are doing it. And thank you for taking me along for the ride 😊

18 and newly married, we were in Yosemite tent camping when we heard that same rustling in the middle of the night. Only our 'raccoon' was a big ol' bear! He pried open our all metal Coleman cooler and had a picnic just feet away from us! We watched him walk around to other campers, a couple in pup tents got their toes sniffed and he even stood up to look into the windows of an RV! And ewww, he left slobber all over our now broken cooler and wow did it stink! Your DD dinner looked great, it's sad that perfectly good food goes to waste. If the store could put that food in a big cooler people could go there and find a good healthy dinner like our bear! TFS

I'm so happy you two love Michigan, I have lived in Flint my entire life, love watching your videos. My husband and I have a hunting camp in the Upper Peninsula and during a thunderstorm, a bear got into our cooler and stole eggs, bacon and a gallon of milk.

Good for you kids. You're having some fun, adventure and saving a bit of money, as well as making people aware of the incredible amount of waste that exists. A fun thing to do on the beaches of Lake Michigan, is to walk the beach at night with an ultraviolet/purple light/black light and watch tons of rocks and seashells glow. Your DD meal of Egg and broccoli Frittata with cast iron fried potatoes looked fabulous. I would have eaten it! So glad you could save some money by doing that. I think you should vlog this whole trip and make a long documentary movie of it, showing how you saved so much money while traveling across the country and back. Saving with the food you found and ate, supplies you used camping, and the clothes you found and wore. While donating in those communities along the way too. What a movie that would make!

We came back to our campsite to see a squirrel in the box, he looked right at us then grabbed some to go.

I was born in Wyandotte which is a suburb of Detroit. Family moved to Monroe and i finished growing up there. Married and moved to Lansing! Go MSU! The woods are so beautiful for camping in MI.
