ive just bought one of these martin from off ebay with its seperate amp and how wonderful it sounds its been fully serviced and is in excellent condition the last time i saw one of these was at my secondary school and remembered how good it was you have done an excellent job on yours cheers for sharing steve

I updated one these a few years ago for a friend. He asked me to repair and make it sound better if I could. After the repair, caps etc I improved the sound by replacing the original cartridge with a Sonatone 9TA/HC. A really nice cartridge in it's day, way better than anything BSR ever made. Not suitable for the cheap 1 or 2 valve players due to it's low output, but the Hacker does have enough gain. I also added a tweeter. Sounds better now than it EVER did, almost HiFi!!

Yes the standard cartridges were not very good in these. They were about the best record players of the era in my opinion, far better than the Dansette Bermuda that everybody wants now. Cheers Martin

Martin, I know this was a while ago but how did you get on with the bracket of the SC12M, fitting it to the 2025TC head-shell? Did you trim it or not bother. I don't think it looks too bad left alone.
