Hello I’m working on a 2011 3.6 Durango. The drivers side spark plug tube seal needs to be replaced. Do I have to have the engine on top dead center to take off the valve cover or can I just take it off and replace the valve cover gasket and tube seal? Your help will be appreciated. 🙏
@MotorCityMechanic6 жыл бұрын
No need to rotate the engine. Just remove the valve and then replaced the needed seals. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

Should the piston one be top dead center on compression before removing timing chains or TDC exhaust?

Is it necessary to remote the lower intake for this head replacement? My 2012 Wrangler is in the shop right now and shop is trying to charge me $800 for the oil cooler and $500 labor for replacement when the engine will already be disassembled for the head replacement.

On the 2016 Chrysler 300, the right bracket seems impossible to get to. Do you have any tips for that particular model on how to remove that bracket?

I can't get the valve cover off I can't reach the 8mm bolt on the bracket that attaches the intake plenum it's a 8 mm long stud bolt impossible to reach
@ayeron7776 жыл бұрын
There are two small protruded pins it looks like on the front valve cover on the lower side just inside the the outer stud bolts. Are they pins or are they special bolts I just can't seem to get my front valve cover off and I don't want to break it or pry on the sealing surface
@MotorCityMechanic6 жыл бұрын
The two pins are for alignment only. Dont forget to remove the cam sensor on top of the valve cover at the rear and then all the bolts loosened. It may still be "stuck" and need some help. The seal has some rtv near the front that seals the gap/seam between the front timing cover and head so it holds onto the valve cover a bit.

I'm doing the right side of the engine, removed all of the bolts, removed cam sensor and whatever else was on the back of the valve cover. It's still getting caught on the right rear part of it and preventing me from completely removing it. Do you have any thoughts or ideas on what might be obstructing it still?
@MotorCityMechanic5 жыл бұрын
Have you removed the pcv valve? That has to come off as well on the rear of the valve cover and then you have to lift the front and move the valve cover towards the transmission to clear the end of the camshaft that sticks out the pcv valve opening.

David, I cannot help but think that you get 3.6 Pentastar engines that you just need to replace the lifters and rocker arms since this is such a common issue with these engines. Can you please make a video that shows only how to replace the valve lash adjusters and the rocker arms? It looks like I may have to work on my van myself? Please...
@MotorCityMechanic7 жыл бұрын
I will try to remember to film one if I get another in for that reason. Usually the cam gets damaged as well when it happens and thats how you end up pinpointing which cylinder. I havent had one recently.

do you have a video for the Right cylinder head for the 3.6 Pentastar yet?
@MotorCityMechanic8 жыл бұрын
Not as of yet. I do know it takes alot more to do and there are no short cuts. The timing cover and in some cases....the metal portion of the oil pan have to be removed. Nothing simple about it for sure.

Good luck with that lol. Let me know what you find.

Hey where can I get a new valve cover gasket from other than the dealer? Mine has been leaking for over a year but it was a small leak and I'm noticing it getting bigger on my challenger. It's gotten to the point where some has leaked onto the transmission. A very small amount but it is there. I traced the leak to the valve cover so I know it is bad for sure.

Do you have to have the heads machined if you are replacing the head gasket or can you just replace the gasket and put everything back together? I am not replacing the heads or having them machined, just replacing the head gasket. Is this possible?
@MotorCityMechanic4 жыл бұрын
Question? Why are you replacing the head gasket? Reason I ask is that they are multi layered steel and not blow. If the engine gets over heated to much the heads will warp
@trinity12ism4 жыл бұрын
@@MotorCityMechanic It was loosing coolant and getting hot, not overheating but just getting hot. I took it to my local mechanic and he informed me that I have a blown head gasket. The temp needle in the instrument panel cluster would fluctuate, something I have not seen before.
@MotorCityMechanic4 жыл бұрын
trinity12ism reason I ask is that I have never seen a blown head gasket before on one of these due to the gasket being metal. Blown headgaskets pretty much went away around the late 90’s when they changed the gasket design. What will happen is the head will warp if overheated too much. Every time I hear blown head gasket I just shake my head. If you decide to take the heads off for some reason....I recommend having them checked to see if warped and checked for other issues by a machine shop. Personally I would have someone else check it before removing the heads, someone experienced with the 3.6

So i could for all intensive purposes just go ahead and buy new cylinder heads for my van and replace those, and that should solve the problem.
