Make sure to help others same money and fix their own gearbox. Share this video and thumb up it up! It ensures KZbin keeps sharing it with others.
Note this is very similar to the Saginaw steering gearbox style, however, valve housing is not adjustable so it's EASIER yet which I like! Look at bottom of description for complete list of trucks that may have this style gearbox.
We're finally rebuilding something! Here we install all the seals. Wow this part is FUN. Now, Teflon seals are a bit special. They seal up pressure systems. They can be brittle and not like stretching! So we cover how to "size" Teflon seals. I have MANY tricks. I even break a seal here and show you what went wrong.
After you learn how to size them, you'll have a skill that you can use as a mechanic for life! These seals typically take expensive tools, of which I use NONE. You can size them with common parts such as ring clamps, electrical tape, and pop bottles. You can even heat up the seals to reduce risk of them snapping when sizing.
All these tricks are really simple and cost virtually nothing. Once you know them, then you know tricks of trade. The secrets rebuild shops keep to themselves so you buy several hundred dollar rebuilt steering gearboxes. Risking not knowing condition of internals. It's no secret, even parts stores discourage buying rebuilt stuff for this very reason.
If you rebuild on your own you KNOW the condition of all the internals. That's even BETTER than buying new! These little tricks and you'll be confident to rebuild just about anything.
