I just found one of these in my barn. Was just cleaning. Found a bunch of old stuff. Magazines from 1900's. And, bunch of REALLY old ax like things that look like they were used more like weapons than tools!!! Lol. But, had to search through the internet to figure out what this thing is. I'm still not sure, outside of it being a steering box. Pretty cool though.

I was thinking about buying this intake until I seen the wide open hole in the bottom of the intake box from this video. The S&B intake for this truck has the rubber plug to plug that open hole on the bottom up. I think I’ll be going with the S&B intake.

I don't recall a hole? That aside, I think the intake bumped my peak efficiency / power up to a higher RPM. I say that as I've not been able to figure out why my city MPG is lower, but highway maybe a bit better MPG now. Not sure if intake did that, as my truck is pretty heavily modified. That aside, it's pretty good. I'd like a bit different element filter though, one dedicated for off-road driving but doesn't seem there's a CAI with a filter dedicated for off-road. I don't believe the cloth filters filter as well. I think they are attractive cause they flow better.

I'm wondering if the Fuel lines are under pressure I thought on the first video he said you had to relieve the pressure and then he didn't show how to do it on rhe second one unless there is another video. I have actually found the delco pump for a $180 with free shipping and I think I would rather pay the extra money because it looks like he's already having problems with this aftermarket the gasket did not fit right and had to spice wires and I think it could be worth the money. My old pump is 24 years old it's a Delco what's put in when the car was built I've owned the car since it was 1-year-old.
@matthewjeschke

Yes it's a good idea to depressurize the lines. You can pull the fuel pump fuse, then start the car. It may run for a couple seconds but then fuel pressure will fall off effectively depressurizing the lines.

I have a 1995 Buick Century Custom that runs so poorly at times it sounds like its just firing one cylinder at a time and will not allow the car to move forward when running so rough. I am considering replacing the fuel pump and gas tank to eliminate that being the cause. Would the video here be what I need to watch or a different one. I also want to look at the firing order spark plug wires to make sure I did not place then out of order when connecting them to the coil packs. Your video is so clear and in focus compared to others and I appreciate that.
@matthewjeschke
@matthewjeschke 5 ай бұрын
You may want to reference the factory service manual or get a chiltons manual for the vehicle for the firing order. The fuel pump is fairly easy to diagnose. There's a shrader port, bike tire valve, on the fuel rail (along engine intake). You rent a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure. My guess is you have something mixed up with the ignition if it's running that bad. Poor fuel pressure typically results in the vehicle not starting at all or starting poorly. It can lend to similar symptoms but typically the pumps just fail.

what are symptoms? Does it start hard? What if you cycle the pump a few times (turn key to on but not start two or three times) does it start better then? With my new rocker arms (Yella Terra 1.6 ultralights) it's five at 7.496 five at 7.501 and 6 at 7.506. Preload was 0.035" +/- 0.010" (Preload tolerance is 0.005" if you have an aluminum block). That's for the LSR 2116 Lifters. Every build will be different the specs are so tight on preload that the variance in engine build will make yours different. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, I probably spent 100 hours working on this and did it all wrong first time. Lifters are AWESOME but overkill for my build. I wanted to do away with lifter trays, I'd have been fine to do a LS7 style link bar lifter. These I think give you a TOUCH more power and more accurate fueling as the piston in the lifter is more consistent / valves follow cam profile more accurately. Other than that, I never pull high enough RPMs to realize their full benefit. You can email me through my website at www.keystoaz.com/contact-us/ (I'm a realtor by day)

The 3.1L is a nice motor but EVERY ONE of them needs the intake manifold gasket replaced. I also had a '98 Century that needed it replaced along with a Malibu that had the 3.1 and needed gasket work done. Interesting you say you had a century and a lucerne. I had a 1998 and then a 1999 Century, and now I have a 2006 Lucerne as well. Those little 3.1L Centurys were FAST. I feel like it was faster than my Lucerne's 3800 setup. I could break the tires loose rolling through a stoplight (not from a standstill) in my 1999 Century and it road like a dream as you said. Really easy to work on too. That said, I've got over 200,000 miles on my Lucerne now and I've not had to do too much with it. Plugs, water pump, and recently rebuild the suspension just cause. The tierods were like new despite mileage.

4.4.24. While the Lisle 48300 tool is not absolutely necessary, it makes the job a lot easier. Because in order to pull the push rods out, you will have to loosen the rocker arm bolts. But before you loosen those rocker arm bolts, it’s imperative that you turn the crankshaft and make sure that each and every cylinder that you’re working on is at its top dead center on the compression stroke. The reason being is if you do pull the rocker arm bolts with the valves being actuated by the cam, they are loading in tension the rocker arm bolts thread junction in the aluminum heads hole. Thus risking stripped aluminum threads⚠️ KZbin is replete with videos of people not doing either of these two actions and rocker arms are loosened, making a horrible noise.‼️ therefore, it’s much easier to use the Lisle 48300 tool✅

Thanks for posting this! I'm in the process this morning, of cleaning out my old 2003 Regal before getting rid of it, and wanted to pull the seat out, in the off chance there was much in the way of loose change or anything of interest under there. The car was a rental for the first year of its life, and then my Dad had it for the next 13, and I've had it for 6. Unfortunately, no treasures to be found, other than a single Crayola crayon and a small batch of spider eggs, but I figured it was worth a look. Oh, one minor item of note, on my '03 Regal LS, with just cloth seats and no rear armrest, the attachment seemed slightly different. Mine didn't have the little loops you could pull. And when I pulled the seat up, the black clips stayed attached to the seat, rather than the floor. Also, I wasn't able to get a good grip, pulling it from where you did, but I tried pulling it from the corner, and it popped right out. So, there may be slight nuances from year to year.

Is your sending unit binding up in there? I'm trying to recall, on most pumps there's a little spring that keeps force on the pump so it's securely seated at bottom of the tank. Maybe that's spring isn't compressing? It'll be right below top of pump housing and the assembly below it that holds the pump and sending unit.
