A trick I learned years ago on rubber windscreen trim...tuck a rope (nylon rope) under the entire rubber trim.. it will hold it off the body and you can get tape on the rubber and paint underneath...nice job on the triumph

Looking great Martin. Would heating the masking tape up quickly with a hairdryer help it come off without the residue ?
@retrorestore10 жыл бұрын
It was just cheap masking tape Mike. That might have worked but it still might have left some sticky patches.

Hello there, what type of paint is Base coat I've used cellulose but apparently you can't spray lacquer over that because it peels
@fiftyracer19210 жыл бұрын
Looks great man what grit do u go up to when flatting back in prep for paint? And do u use a different grit or do anything different when preparing plastic panels for paint like bike panels etc
@retrorestore10 жыл бұрын
I use 500 or 600 grit to flat before I apply the basecoat and if i'm painting plastic panels, I apply a plastic primer first before the normal primer and then flat with the same paper before the basecoat. Cheers Martin

Hi martin, I've followed you since the RS turbo as I have a mk4 escort cab project of my own. Your paint jobs are outstanding considering you paint outside under a car port. I've painted my car with 2-pac paint. I don't think its a bad job for my first attempt, but I do have a fair bit of orange peel & a couple of runs. What paper would you recommend to cut back before polishing? Thanks Tony
@retrorestore10 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, I normally flat out the orange peel with 1500 paper and then buff. Check out my mazda MX5 vids on sanding and buffing the clearcoat. The runs are pretty easy to get out as well. I will do a vid of how I do this but I didn't get any runs on the Triumph so I can't show on this car.. Cheers Martin
