What I love about your potter house series is that you have taken a controversial subject like hoarding and you have made it into something positive. You have never once said that house was disgusting and you have made it into a adventure and now you are honouring this lady and getting her permission. You should be recognised, you are such a lovely guy with a wonderful family and if anyone got the house I’m so glad it was you!!! You deserve way more subscribers ❤️❤️

Mary Borgstrom has instinctively created ceramic treasure which Alex and everyone linked to this project are preserving for posterity. Mary's surname - Borgstrom - indicates her genetic links with Sweden where beautiful ceramic treasures are still being produced today. Thank you for your engagement in this project, and for the sensitivity, love and empathy which is shown in every programme produced. With much warm love, Dallas Mäkelä (Sweden)

I think a part of your brain unlocks once you reach a certain age and the inevitability of death that could happen naturally at any moment takes over. It's like your mind and body is in preparation for the event. A natural process that animals have followed for millennia.

Such a lovely interview. It's wonderful to finally 'meet' the potter. Alex I hope you know that you are a shining beacon in this, sometimes ugly, world. You've shown the most amazing patience with the house, with all the belongings and with the challenging circumstances you've experienced. I'm so glad you changed it to the "Potter House" and I'm also so glad that it's you that bought the house. The respect and care that you show Mary and her family is extraordinary. You are truly a gem and one of the most upstanding humans I've seen in my 63 years on this earth. Thank you for sharing this amazing story and I look forward as it continues to unfold. Wow! When I first came upon "I Bought a Hoarder's House", I was intrigued, and watched your videos, but never expected it to take this turn. You were destined, for some reason, to be the one to come upon this house, buy it, restore it, and restore dignity to this elderly woman who has had such a fascinating life. You could see that when she first started talking about her house, she was defensive for a moment, and then embarrassed, and started to look down and away from you. Eventually, she was moved by the respect that you were giving her and her house, and one can see the appreciation, and I daresay, it seemed, even a sense of relief that she seemed to exhibit at the notion that her dignity was being returned to her, her work, and her house. Kudos to you for the unique approach you took to this project from the beginning, both for the talent in your hands and the goodness in your soul.

Alex was a God send to Mary to give her piece of mind that the house was being cleaned and repaired and that her pottery, glaze recipes and poems were saved. She worried how she didn't have time for the house and her collecting got out of hand and no where to walk in the house you could tell it really upset her. Alex said he was putting family things to the side and she asked if it was ok for her daughter to come check on him. He was able to show her pictures of the work being done on the house. I think by stopping her form worrying about everything it let her pase on in peace. Too bad it was Wednesday and she was supposed to go visit the house on Saturday. In a way she did go by the house on Saturday riding in style with lights and sirens going on the Ghostbusters ambulance. It was fulfilling her final wish that was to go for a ride in the Ghostbusters ambulance but didn't know it was going to be taking her to her final resting place. As they passed the house the trees seemed to be waving goodbye as they swayed side to side in the wind. I agree it was meant for him to be the one with the house just think of how much would've been lost if they would've bulldozed or burned the house. Now so many people around the world know of the beautiful pottery and has preserved her legacy also given so many the chance to own a piece of her work. It was so amazing every time something needed or someone to do the work Alex was able to find them and some right there in town. Friends, family and neighbors came together and made the house a home again what an amazing journey we were able to come along. I think the portrait Josh made amazing. He said it was special because she made art with her hands and he paints with his hands. The look on Mary's daughter's face when she saw it was worth a million words. Then for him to use some of her pigments in the mask it was like adding a piece of her to it.

A final chapter of her revisiting the completed home and hearing a few more stories & memories would be BEYOND AMAZING!! I had thought she had passed & thats why the house was sold as it was, her family seemed as if they couldnt dump it quick enough in that very 1st video!! Such a great story!! @Design & more You have been ranting & raging here for HOURS, repeating yourself. You've made your point. If he hadn't bought that house & done what he has-------IT WOULD HAVE REMAINED A TRASH HEAP WITH NOBODY TO BENEFIT FROM IT. He paid for the house. He's not a hired renovator. The family chose not to bother to strip the house for all it's valuables. It would have been up to the sellers to determine the selling price of the house, knowing what may be in it. They didn't open a shop to resell the clothes & collectable trivia. No-one has been defrauded here. She & her family knew what they gave up in the sale.

Like many others I had tears in my eyes watching this...partly because Mary reminds me of my grandmother who passed away a few years ago. She was a decade younger but had the same young energetic spirit locked in a body failing her. But what impresses me most is your attitude towards the whole hoarder/potter house situation. I know you are in this business to make money and help provide for your family but society on a whole would benefit if everyone would see that money is NOT everything and other things are worth preserving as well. You could have just sold everything found in the house for maximum profit, fixed it up some and flipped it for a good price but eventually Mary's legacy would have been lost completely. Trying to make the house a historic site, putting a plaque up at the front to let people know who lived there and what extraordinary person they have living among them is a very nice thing and I admire you for it. Keep up the good work and please don't let a big network lure you away from KZbin to some TV channel!!! Best wishes all the way from Germany!

I cried through the whole video. It's hard to know what to say about such a wonderful interview. I remember you slogging through the house during the first few videos, just trying to make a path. Then you found some of Mary Borgstrom's art and became curious. I was so happy when you changed the name of the series to Potter's House after understanding what you had found. I was thrilled to learn you had applied to protect her house and have loved seeing it cleared from the clutter. Now, in this one interview, we learned about the genius mind that was so driven to create that a 'clean' house wasn't even on the list of things to worry about. Did you ever imagine, when you and your lovely family started your antique shop, that you would run across such a treasure? You have been blessed and you have blessed all of us who watched this series. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Obviously the family changed their minds about keeping her name off the house, I don't think this vid would be up otherwise. The daughter Karen from 1st video is present at the interview room too so it's not like Alex is doing this against their will. Alex's videos have been respectful about the situation of the house and the things she collected over years, it's not "trash" to him. Discovering Potter's house under the hoarder's house also, i feel like, changed the family's perspective. He respects her work and wants world to know this story of her life. Alex trying to make the house a historical site has all my support. I really dont understand why some people are saying he has only money in mind/is creedy when he's only been considerate of her and her family and always very respectful. It's not as she needs that stuff in the house, would you rather have the house left to rot?!? Or all things being thrown away? Keeping items on the market for more use is good and this is a capitalist society we live in: alex has done a lot of work and deserves to earn money too. He also did (try to) donate LOADS of stuff so I really don't understand the haters.

I'm thinking the family has been watching the youtube videos and can see the respect that has been shown. The house belong to an active, imaginative person, who got older and overwhelmed. Things are full of memories and are comforting. The body doesn't have the energy to follow through with things that should be done. Perhaps this is a blessing. If she had gone through her house and threw out what she thought was worthless, there would not be so many great things left.

BRAVO, I couldn't have said that any better. You just beat me to it. This isn't about the "hoarding" - Alex has gone ABOVE and beyond to be respectful of Mary, her work, her home and her impact on the art community as well as reminding us that we should NOT judge a book by its cover. That community missed out on a lot, and maybe even her own family, by "labeling" Mary as a hoarder. There was SO much more to this, and he even tried to donate a LOT of things from this house to put into the hands of those that could use it - and the agency rejected it after he had put in all of the work to thoughtfully separate it out. I think that Alex has done what is right, what is good and what is BEST for this situation in a truly kindhearted and respectful way. I have nothing but respect for him, his business and his methodologies. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that we are now seeing Mary, the Potter, and can close the loop on this story. The fact that this home will be restored to a beautiful period in time, with original pieces and woodwork from the home, is an absolutely amazing accomplishment. I fully support Alex's efforts to get this home on a National Historic Register. I hope it happens - he has worked so hard, his whole family/team has - so if you have nothing but negativity to bring to this story maybe you should just consider stepping away and not leaving your judgement here.

Oh Alex if I could give this video ten thousand likes I would. I am excited to hear that of your plans to have the house designated a historical house in that area. We often let too many things of history just pass away from us. As far as Mary is concerned, I imagine it was a great honor to meet her. I imagine she has lots of stories she could tell and I myself would love to meet her. Her mind is still strong and she is just a lovely lady. I thank her family for allowing her to be part of this series and to allow us to meet her via the internet. God bless her and her family. Alex, you are really someone to be admired. What you plan to do with the house is just amazing. I wish somehow people who see these videos who have experience in helping redo what needs to be done in the house would volunteer their work and expertise to help you get the house to where it needs to be. You have worked so hard to get it to where it is right now. You are a good guy Alex and the respect and admiration you have shown this lady and her family is just so touching. That interview brought me to tears..when she spoke of how the art was inside her and she could think of nothing else and focus on nothing else....that is a true artist. Many artist use the exercise of marking on paper without really looking to bring forward what is inside. I do it myself. You can feel the void she is experiencing from not having that driven creative thought to actual fruition of a material piece. She took a short course that awoke the hidden artist inside. Thank you for honoring her.

Thank you for taking the time to do this Interview. I have followed the entire series like so many others have. Her home was cluttered not filthy, it was easy to see she was a woman driven by her passion of art. I say easy to see because I come from a family of very creative people and have always had clutter/inspirations scattered about. Granted our clutter was never to that extreme BUT she was driven, she surronded herself with items that spoke to her, always creating. When you are that driven there is really little time for mundane things like tidying your workspace! lol. As a fellow creative soul I understand her. I also feel her pain when she said her hands don't work. It is so hard to still have the thoughts, ideas, and passion to create but a body that does not allow it. I was crying so hard for her. Her mind seems sharp as ever and except for her aging body she would still be creating. I have always had a deep connection to older people, even as a child I enjoyed sitting and listening to their stories of life. We as a society can still learn so much from our elders, if only we would stop and take the time to listen. THANK YOU Alex for listening, for allowing Miss Mary the chance to share her passion with yet another generation or 2! THANK YOU for caring enough to treat her with honor and dignity. Even though I don't really know you, I just have this overwhelming feeling that you sir have earned your wings. Stay true to yourself and stay humble, it is what I personally love about you and your family. Have a wonderful day Alex.

No matter what else you do in your life, Alex, the way in which you're preserved and promoted her legacy will be something you can always be proud of. I know you got into this for profit (of course, you are a businessman and you need to support your family), but you could have stripped the house of everything of value then sold the property to a flipper. Instead, you made this about something bigger and you are trying to restore the house to its former glory as well as helping us all see Mary's work. You're an example of an ethical capitalist and the world could use thousands more like you.

id like to say, that hoarder are usually highly intelligent. That maybe their home is like their mind full of amazing things. My sister is in Mensa IQ of 145 and she also is a hoarder. She is amazing. I could sit and listen to her tell HERSTORY for hours, days and weeks.. I'm a new potter (3yrs)and she is quite unique i wish a film maker would take this amazing life and record it for all Canadians. I know that many art teachers would love to include that in their syllabus.

thank you, what a wonderful interview, "I didn't have time for a house." explains a lot, it was just a storage locker for a traveller, not a hoarder, she didn't live there in those conditions, she just returned every now and then to drop off stuff she couldn't pack around with her,the lady was fully aware of the condition and contents of the house, not really concerned about opinion, more about poetry and pottery, what an incredible woman, you obviously know what your'e doing Alex, thank you. @@TheAstroflight She was most defiantly a hoarder. One of the symptoms of hoarding is to fill rooms with clothing, household items, and even garbage, to the point where the house cannot be adequately maintained, or safely navigated. Go back and re-watch the videos and you will see there was no possible way to properly manage the home, or safely navigate it in the state that Alex found it. Also, a hoarder's house often sustains damage due to the hoard. In this case, the homes walls and plumbing system cracked due to the hoards massive weight. Hoarders also fill up storage units, so just because she might be using the house like a storage unit does not mean that she was not a hoarder. One last thing, hoarders are often forced to move out of their homes due to the untenable living conditions.

Rest in peace, beautiful Mrs Mary Borgstrom, you made a huge impact on all of us, and we thank you for the legacy in pottery art, you leave behind, for all of us to admire and to continue doing what you loved so much. Just like your quote: 'When you're making pottery, it becomes everything to you, that you almost can't think, of anything else'. Thank you so much Alex, for turning what started as an adventure, on this hoarder house, into a beautiful, one of a kind and wonderful Potters House, God bless you.

How beautiful! Thank you for being so kind and patient with her! So sad she can't use her hands - working with clay would probably ease her mind and keep her engaged more. The historic designation would be wonderful as well. I hope it works out the way you're planning it to.

I thought the same about her hands. The way she spoke about getting old reminds me of my father in law who just in the last year has been completely unable to work with the cattle anymore and so he travels wherever he can.

They should actually get her lots of clay and just a small spin plate whatever they call them, turntable...to have where she is at, she doesn't have to make anything but the squishing and working with the clay period may actually help her hands! I do this with my Mom and it helps!!! I have to get her more clay and slime and kinetic sand which I have the recipe for and I will make for her, but anything to squish, form, punch, push, pull, roll all of it is good for their hands, it keeps their mind working as well but the work loosens up the joints, making it easier to work with the stuff and just using their hands in general and if their having trouble with one or both legs helping move them as if they are peddling a bicycle, so as to increase their strengths and range of motion, the more working with the more improvements if they are possible!!!

What a pleasure it was to see this interview with Mary Bergstrom. I can only imagine what an impact this had on her. I hope her home gets recognized as an historical landmark. Thank goodness she is still alive and cognizant of all you have done and are doing. All too often people that are deserving of recognition don't get it till after they've passed on. I hope the things you put outside for charity don't just get tossed. ♡

What a touching story! My heart broke when I watched the first house episode and wondered what could have led to that level of accumulation and neglect, and along the way I've come to appreciate the house as an extension of the extraordinary woman who lived there. This entire series has turned into a fitting tribute to this woman's legacy, and I appreciate the respect with which you've approached the entire project. And Mary herself is such a treat! I look forward to learning more about her & her artistic legacy. ❤️❤️❤️ I also can't help thinking that Play-Doh might be pliable enough for arthritic hands to work with. Ms Borgstrom might not be able to make lasting art with it (or could she?!?!) but at least she could still create! ❤️

Very well said, Alex did a wonder job of respecting and paying tribute to her. Your idea about Play-Doh is wonderful. Polymer clay is also something that might work if someone conditioned it for her. With them her work could be baked and saved.

I think working with clay, or possibly wax even , could be therapeutic for arthritic hands, not to mention for the soul. When the kids were young, I would purchase modeling wax, that responded to the warmth of the hands. The kids so enjoyed it, and I did too.

"An intimate love affair with the great out of doors and an insatiable curiosity about Mother Earth makes the search for local clays not only a challenge but an adventure of sheer pleasure and unexplainable fascination. And so -- my involvement with Primitive Pottery is about as total as is possible, almost to the exclusion of all else. Almost! An overly fertile mind -- an explosion of ideas within one Life Span and Time holding a Stop Watch on the impossible dream. There has to be another world -- another lifetime." Wow. I *really* hope you kept that poetry, those last 2 sentences (/lines) are art alone. I'd love to read her poetry. What an amazing mind.
