Welcome back to Hourless Life where we are driving around the world.
We're currently overlanding through north Colombia. We received several recommendations to make the trek up the eastern side of the Colombian Andes mountains to a small town called La Playa de Belen. There we would find Los Estoraques, a natural park so beautiful that part of the Disney movie Encanto was supposedly inspired by it.
Join us as we take you into this magical national park in Colombia, and into the cave that inspired Bruno's room in the movie Encanto.

We’re Eric + Brittany + Caspian Highland, and we’re driving around the world! We left the United States in October 2021 and arrived in South America during November 2022. How do you decide wheres safe and where's not?

Rachael, that is such a great question. We talk to a lot of locals as well as other recent overlanders who have been where we are headed. There is a whole community of us down here to ping off of one another so that's a huge blessing. In addition we use iOverlander to see the latest updates and are members of various groups of active travelers down here. So we do a ton of "homework" and then make the decision based on that. We also follow some general "best practices" every travel day which again increases our safety. Hope that helps! ~ Eric

Did you need to get a Colombian license to rent the vehicle??

If you are flying into Colombia you don't need a Colombian license to rent a vehicle. You need your passport and the divers license from your home country. We did not rent a vehicle, we drove our own vehicle from the USA to Colombia. That is the vehicle you see in our video. ~ Eric
