Honestly as someone who is enjoying the podcast and is only listening to it now and not as these episodes came out, the lack of playlists on the channel or organisation like linking to the next episode in the description or the end card bumper (seems to depend on the video) is really frustrating. Also making playlists according to topic like politicians, pundits or older historical figures. Iunno, I like the show but some of this feels very half-assed and is also making it hard for people to find the next part in a series and is gonna hurt the channel algorithmically.

Reverse-engineering stories from cover art was a major practice in the comic book industry for a while. At one point, executives discovered that comics with apes on the cover sold especially well, so they had their cover artists bang out a bunch of covers with apes and then hand them off to writers, who had to figure out how to shoehorn an ape into the story they were writing.

I haven't heard Part Two yet, but I'm disappointed that his son's interview with Penthouse on his lawsuit against the Church of Scientology wasn't covered thusfar. His son describes a SERIOUSLY messed up childhood, with his father never having abandoned his Satanism spree, actually starting to feel that he was Satan, heavy drug use, drugging his son's food, and on and on.

Ron DeWolf claims a lot of things. As for the Satanism, he did have Anton Szandor LaVey's San Francisco-based "Church of Satan" on a 1969 sh-tlist because he thought their rituals were somehow based on Scientology/Dianetics "tech".....which they absolutely were not. The same list also has the Process Church of the Final Judgement on it (broken up into "The Process" and "Church of the Final Judgement") because Hubbard forgot that he had sent a cease and desist to the founders of the Process Church in the early 1960s when their group was called "Compulsions Analysis" and they were doing psychotherapy with an e-meter (Scientology skin galvanometer, i.e., a very crude lie detector). Those two founders (who picked up the last name "de Grimston") decided to create their own theology and carry on, and what came out of it was very much not Scientology.

I have read that interview and I think "Nibs" aka Ronald DeWolf picked up his father's skill at making reality more fantastic. I can agree that DeWolf's childhood was a fiasco and Ron was extremely abusive, but I don't think Hubbard sold stolen US Navy radar or sonar gear to Soviet agents. I do believe that he drugged the hell out of Nibs to get the raw material for his 1952 "Scientology: A History of Man" book. Hubbard was an undiagnosed high-functioning paranoid schizophrenic, if we can trust his first wife's doctor.

Kurt Vonnegut noted that for a while there, there was a *tremendous* demand for readable short stories. A lot of magazines were weekly, and a competent short story writer could make quite a tidy living. When television came in this changed but it's entirely possible that old L. Ron sold quite a few stories during this period.

Hubbard had at least four pen names and wrote westerns on top of science fiction and (I think) horror as well. The master of shoveling it out was Isaac Asimov, who was a walking writing machine, extruding from his brain (according to Wikipedia): 40 novels, 383 short stories, 280 non-fiction books, editing "around" 147 other books.

just because a 14 yo doesn't know how to write a good sex scene doesn't mean he's an incel (that too in the 1920s, heck i know many published adults who write terrible sex scenes) and writing about romantic stories about the opposite sex doesn't mean objectification either. Their just trying to be funny about a person who by their mention on the podcast is basically guranteed to be an asshole. I doubt they actually think 14 year Olds who have trouble with the opposite sex are incels. Though I do think the number of times one of the bastards gets called an incel only to be immediately followed with an explanation of how they got laid a bunch is funny...except for the times it gets really dark.

I do wanna point out that most of the jokes they make on the podcast is done with the knowledge that the joke-ee is a horrible person, and their criticisms aren’t meant to be applied to everyone. Like how you can roast Hitler’s art skills, but you wouldn’t make fun of a kids macaroni art project, even though it is technically worse. That’s because kids are cool and deserve support, while Hitler’s a monster and doesn’t deserve respect. Still, it’s valid to be upset by the remarks they made on the podcast, even if those remarks weren’t intended for you.

Correction 37:49: the USS PC-815 was not a little bitty pt boat with a handfull of guys it was a 53m long sub chaser with almost 60 people on board.
