I just listened to this episode. I just wanted to add something else about Barry Goldwater Robert didn't mention. Not only did he change his mind on many right wing positions, he also expressed distrust of the religious fanatics that were already in the process of taking the GOP over. In an interview he gave before he died, he said the religious right "scared him." Just wanted to add that. In this modern Republican Party, I think he'd be labelled a RINO and exiled like the man who eventually held his U.S. Senate seat- Jeff Flake. Prior to committing the mortal sin of not jumping when Trump snapped his fingers, Flake was a darling of the tea party.
