There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

I'd watch a reality show where people are taken to a beautiful pastoral setting and everything is serene and peaceful and then BOOM, you're actually a guest on a Behind the Bastards episode

Oh god, I can see it. There's a couch at the top of a small hill, overlooking rolling green fields. We hear birds singing and a creek babbling in the distance. As our camera crew follows the guest on their trek to the top of the rise we realize that seated on an overstuffed armchair positioned at a jaunty angle near the couch is a single figure with their back turned to the camera. He rises and warmly shakes the guests hand, smiling as with disconcerting ease he says "Welcome. I'm Robert Evans, and this is Behind the Bastards; a podcast about the very worst people in all of history."

Alternatively... you get bait-and-switched from thinking you've been brought onto "To catch a predator"... but instead of whats-his-face coming out to chide you on being a creep... it is Robert Evans coming out to have you be a guest on Behind the Bastard

I could see it. In a countryside cottage, hot tea on the table with some cookies or whatever and suddenly "you know who also likes tea? (probably, I don't know) ... Jimmy Saville." And suddenly you're stuck finding out the situation was even worse and more depressing than you remember.

Religion. A cult that isn't Christian won't last anywhere near as long. Pastors of megachurches primarily only focus outwardly on sapping money... which they also use to hire contractors and outright buy stuff. Also tax breaks and religious exemptions in the US help soften the "blow" to their pockets... ALSO, white evangelical Americans in tandem with American media and government essentially giving exactly one shit about anywhere that isn't England, Australia,, Russia, Iran or China.

I mean, how can one even imagine living in a country where a so-called leader that some people inexplicably find charismatic to the extent they claim he accomplished great things that there's no evidence of is allowed to escape or indefinitely delay punishment for his many crimes because the corrupt justice system takes money from the wealthy?

Glancing at the history of Nigeria just on Wikipedia alone, TB Joshua spent the vast majority of his life and bastard-like career in a nation that has faced political turmoil, economic strife, and civil war (Nigeria was a British colony for a long time before all of that happened. Ain't that a funny coincidence?). Basically, the country's leadership have had more pressing shit to deal with than a crazy, abusive, and r@pey preacher dude running a weird religious cult who was actually bringing money into the area. A lot of these kinds of cults that get massive do typically operate in places that have a lot of other stuff going on, because the governments in those areas are too busy putting out all kinds of fires at once, figuratively and literally, and the cult can go on for years without getting looked at by the critical eyes of officials, especially if said cult is stimulating the region's economy.

On a completely unrelated note, Cody Johnston seemed to reference RE's ad intro line in the latest episode of Some More News. It's not clear he realized he was doing it; he could have been doing it just because he's been on BTB and heard it so many times. Either way, it was a standard "You know who won't rape your mother and burn your dog?" lead in, and it was a lot of fun, I thought.

He could afterwards always say, no I said Boca Raton, you just heard me wrong. Basically the Frank Reynolds school of gaslighting. I mean they are the same level of depraved crazy, only Frank is fictional and actually funny. Also played Danny Devito so he is one charming fucker.....oh my god I just got hit by the idea of what could've happened of Danny was evil and instead of acting decide to start a cult. Now that's a scary thought.

Listening to the unknown medicine treatments is horrifying to me as someone who is disabled and chronically ill on so many levels. Let's start with the fact that treatment without someone's knowledge or consent is basically medical assault; drugging people without their consent can lead down a serious slippery slope; and then I wonder how many medical professionals they had there to deal with potential overdoses or allergic reactions! The medical ethics in this is unbelievably horrifyingly shattered.
@justcommenting4981
@justcommenting4981 3 ай бұрын
That is a bizarre angle to take. That is arguably the best thing he did. Curing someone's parasites and telling them it is magic is not assault. The bigger issue is medicine that could help them was not immediately rendered when their illness was known. I have to assume that you must be vehemently anti forced vaccination though.
@alexbagbutt6984
@alexbagbutt6984 3 ай бұрын
@@justcommenting4981 I'm sorry that you are unable to tell the difference between treating someone without their permission and public safety mandates. I am absolutely for mandated vaccines, as well as the consequences for choosing not to get one, although i qm for allowing people to choose. One person's factually false blind belief does not give them the right to endanger the lives of venerable people however. That is selfish and cruel ideology of the worst order. If you don't want the vaccine, fine; just don't inconvenience those of us that are fine with it. Your life is not more important than anyone else's.

@@alexbagbutt6984 oh man you threw that whole high horse about medical consent and slippery slope right out the window didn't you. You just had a really goofy opinion that the thing worth focusing on was medical consent to be treated and cured as though by magic. As opposed to lying and delaying care.

@@justcommenting4981 Again ignoring a series of facts like how they could easily be killing these people if they had allergies or other reactions to the medication they are being unwillingly administered, plus the fact that these people seem to be guessing at what the actual problem is instead of doing proper and full medical investigations. Then there's again the fact that forcing a treatment on someone is just wrong. You made that fact yourself talking about forced vaccines. THOSE are important to keeping people alive and healthy, yet we aren't running around randomly sticking people who refuse. Your privilege is showing bare ass.

It’s normal for a lot of Christian denominations. It references back to this story in Genesis where IIRC King Melkizadek (probably butchering the spelling but I don’t want to look it up) receiving a prophecy from God where he was told to give 10% of everything he had to Abraham. Which sounds SUUUUUPER scammy taken out of context. Honestly, probably in context too. I think there’s a stronger tradition of tithing among the Second Great Awakening denominations (SDA, which I grew up in, Mormonism, and I think JW has tithing too?), but I definitely heard about the concept of tithing in the non-denominational Evangelical but mostly Southern Baptist school I attended. Another podcast I listen to, Go Home Bible, You’re Drunk, did an episode on tithing as it was actually in the Bible, and it’s pretty interesting and NOTHING like what tithing in most churches looks like. www.irreverent.fm/show/go-home-bible-youre-drunk/episode-67-tithes-and-grifts/
