Hard to believe I saw this over 50 years ago! Back then, it was right after everyone came home from school and we would rush to see it. In the 1970s after high school we would rush home to see Match Game.

What a classical Shakespearing acting between Barnabas and Joshua Collins. They were great, especially back in 1795. And that is, like father and like son.

Agreed the 1795 timeline is my favorite there are many other good story lines 1897 parallel time 1840 the original Barnabas story lines when he first appears but in my opinion 1795 is best
@melodiefrances38983 жыл бұрын
To me they are just completely different. The 1897 people were all scheming, lying, borderline evil, but fascinating from a distance. Even the Trask was a hypocrite. The 1795 characters were sincere and honorable and tragic. Very tragic. They were the kind of people you would want to know irl. But I love watching both of them.
@charleslamb58182 жыл бұрын
1795 was great but 1897 could compare with the introduction of Quentin Collins which like Barnabas sent the shows ratings to their highest. So both time periods were vital to the success of DS.

So great to see Forbes "get it" again, 52 years later. My memory had been quite good on this sequence. They say that we change our memory of events when we recall them. Well, I had recalled this many times over the years, but the version in my mind it was still very accurate. Back in 1968 we had to wait 23 hours to find out what happened after the arrow hit Barnabas in the chest. The immediate conclusion is kinder. Thanks for posting this!
@Moorexec3 жыл бұрын
I think this particular episode aired on a Friday, and we had to wait until Monday to see the conclusion.

Wait a minute, Barnabas didn't spend 10 minutes monologuing him to death first like everybody else he's killed/eaten in this series. They flipped it around so we heard Forbes telling himself "don't miss" over and over again while waiting at the door. What a refreshing change of pace...

This was truly the last time Barnabas saw both his mother and father, as well as both his aunt Abigail and his cousin Millicent. Barnabas would see both his sister Sarah's ghost and Jeremiah's ghost (and the vengeful ghost of Reverend Trask) in the present, would see Daniel as a middle-aged man in 1840, would see Ben again, first on two trips to 1795-97 (and Lt. Forbes during the first trip) and as an old man in 1840. He would see Countess Natalie Dupre on his second trip to 1795-97 (he bit her so that she can save Josette from Angelique and Widow's Hill). Barnabas would also see Josette, first as her true reincarnation in 1897, then on his second trip to 1795-97, then finally as a ghost in the present. Of course, he would see his wife Angelique (they never divorced, which makes Angelique a bigamist: Roger Collins and Sky Rumson) everywhere he went, except for 1995.

I always felt that Abigail, Rev. Trask, and Lt. Forbes-- always got what they deserved. Whereas Abigail Collins and Rev. Trask were a couple of religious fanatics and hypocrites, Lt. Nathan Forbes was a womanizer, a fortune hunter, a would-be bigamist-- and a would-be child killer for... The MONEY!! The three of them however-- were doing the dirty work of Angelique, without ever realizing it.

Is it only me, or doesn't Barnabas' father look vaguely like Will Ferrell in geriatric makeup? Also, Lt. Forbes must have been enough of a sharpshooter to at least hit Barnabas the way he did. It was a perfect head-on shot on that door and he was aiming and shooting on quite an angle. And lastly, Forbes must have removed his practice shot bolt from the door but after that scene there's no mark on the door to show it was ever there. And they say Angelique was the witch... ;)
