You and ScitubeHD inspired oldmanbuilds and me to use the ZVs in our Tesla coils. You both deserve all the credit for turning us into this driverless circuit! Thank you!

I just got mine to hit 11-12" sparks with the stock zvs on a half wave ac. 320khz #2 11" winding 32g magnet wire. the 2) caps in series was .75nf total. I watched you first video on the stock zvs and it was really cool. did you guys develop a new board for it?

Yep Got a new board. Pl check out gerber and BOM in the description

I found the Gerber files, uploaded them to JLCPCB way and ordered 25 circuit boards. It only cost me $50.

It’s better to use a 100 nF CD cap instead of 150 nF unless you want to make a larger coil. Have had great results with it so far
@shawncalderon49502 ай бұрын
@@BrianDhvTinkerer he is using two 150 nF caps in series, resulting in 75 nF.

The lower capacitance means that the current flowing in the primary tank is less which is less hard on the IGBT or Mosset switches. It also means that you can have more primary turns which gives better coupling and more energy transferred to the secondary coil.

Have you ran one of these yet with a lot of smoothing?
@BrianDhvTinkerer2 ай бұрын
Yes they run great with DC from a SMPS

Do you think one could modulate the outout by hooking a power amplifier full bridge rectified as power source, or making a makeshift class A amplifier to modulate the output?

Yes tried it and it works very well for music. Look at this demo that ArcAngel did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJ3Tlnuhirx3qNUsi=KCpOXhvHv-l6X68a

Why do I never see anyone building a proper PASSIVE Tesla coil? You collect high voltage from the air into a capacitor and the SECONDARY coil. Once enough charge builds up it crosses spark gap and a higher current lower voltage flows on the primary side. With careful spark gap adjust one can get a continuous flow from the air. 100v per meter so you might want old antenna tower

Hobby tinkerers do that quite a bit but they realize fast it's quite a waste of time. There are also quite a bit of tall structures on the planet. If it was really that viable you would see it more. People use what works.
