As a non Indian, I ask you guys if with the size of your population, you really expect other countries to absorb indians indefinitely? Unlike other countries, it looks like everyone wants to leave India. Rich/Poor, Skilled/Unskilled, etc. Other countries are starting to push back, rightly so. Why is this so difficult for indians to understand? 🤷🏾‍♂️

*As an Indian-American, I slightly disagree.* I hate to break it to you, but Elon just wants cheap foreign labor, and that's the only reason he'll defend H1-B. He's a billionaire, he couldn't care less about the equally-qualified average middle class American. I can totally understand if you disagree with Laura's tweet, but simply calling it "racist" is quite dense. Any country would and should prioritize their own talent before looking outside. With that being said, I also disagree with the other extreme that are completely anti H1-B which is ridiculous. H1-B's were meant to bring top talent to the US, and I think it should be like that (unlike Canada). Props to you for speaking up about consultancies and off-campus!

I respectfully disagree to your point about Elon ONLY being concerned about getting “cheap” labor. He is not. It’s not about the money for him if you’ve noticed Elon even a little bit. Elon knows people on H1B have a burning passion to dedicate their lives for their work and the drive they have is unmatched especially by Americans who are not that driven because they haven’t been in the constant survival race that all H1Bs are in. Being in that situation builds character, grit and that’s how innovation happens and Elon cares about innovation and hates mediocrity which most comfortable American represent. No disrespect for anyone here. Just one man’s opinion.

Top talents are brought thru the EB-1 Visa. That's the proper channel. There's 3 issues with the H1-B visa. First, the perception of cheap labor that's robbing qualified Americans of their due employment and also the aspect that the employer has high leverage over the H1B employee creating indebted servitude, something that's not possible over Americans. The 3rd issue is the perception that it's easy for Indians to cheat the system and produce fake or fabricated qualifications or paperwork to allow them to get through the screening process. The financial advantages for the employer is obvious and that's why they're willing to look the other way over the qualifications issue

As an Indian American, most folks from India are not top talent, they are cheaper subservient labor. I do not agree with removing the greencard cap. Very few percentage are IIT grads with PhDs and advanced research and contributions in the field. Most are here to just work and replace US high paying jobs in Big Tech or low paid jobs in Indian IT Consulting for a sponsorship on H1B at a company that will file for their Creen Card ASAP. An immigration policy should benefit the citizens of the country first and foremost. Not the government via tax dollars, not the employers who want cheap subservient labor, not the immigrant who wants to financially benefit themselves. Why should Americans reward cheap employers who hired Indians in IT consulting as "high skilled" who take lower wages and displaced American workers with a green card by removing the cap....this incentivizes this behavior to the detriment of Americans. It is time to send anyone who is not highly skilled...which should be anyone who isn't making at least 200k IMO away from America. If a US company is not willing to pay significantly more than an American to retain you, then you are not the "extraordinary talent" you claim to be.

I agree. The huge issue I've observed in almost 99% of the companies with software/IT departments (other departments might also follow the same pattern which I have no idea about, so won't comment on those), has been that these companies are bloated. As in none of those need so many employees. Then why were they all recruited? Because of the power/money/fame hungry authority craving leadership at different levels, which has lead to creating "some" requirement(s) and which are hyped to bring tons of revenue (in reality it might contribute to 0 - 0.1% revenue at the end), and in order to fulfill those requirements, new teams/orgs with tons of employees are needed has been the justification. This has been the cycle. And given that most of the leadership happens to be of Indian descent, sometimes unfortunately they influence non-Indians as well. Btw, I'm an Indian-American, and I'm not stating all these because I'm jealous, insecure whatever. I couldn't resist myself in commenting about the misuse and % of below average talent over the years, which has been defaming the name of India. There has been a significant abuse of H1B, I don't anymore see top-talent, instead only see 80% of below average talent whose job, any average Joe can do with just 2 month training. Most of the jobs, and in general software management has become a facade of networking, smooth-talks and just proving authority. In a day, I'd say only 1% of actual any relevant work is done (it's a deep chain of illusions starting with reqs vs revenue, so I don't want to go there). Also coming to students who do MS here, how many of these universities enforce strict rules that students don't cheat? How many of these actually "strictly" verify the undergraduate performance of the applicants instead of just verifying the "documentation" provided? I did my MS here long back, and even then I know students who paid others to complete their assignments. My intention is not to generalize, but I believe at least 40%-50% of the students who do MS here are the ones that did pretty bad in education in India and have no scope of getting a job there, so decide to land here. Is USA becoming a third-world in terms of brains? So non-Indians can't do the above jobs which only need mostly people skills and some minor tech skills? I value honesty, integrity and some ethics and I have been saddened to see the degradation of those significantly over the past decades. At the end of the day, we are all human beings and should encompass those, if we did, we'd be not seeing these discussions.

As an Indian I think, India has failed its people in providing a good quality life that's why a large part of the population wants to escape from India. The world will not be able to give every Indian a job. Sooner or later immigration will stop. The current Indian PM just keeps roaming the world and meeting Indian diaspora as a PR stunt but never asks them to return to India because he knows India has nothing in it for them. Presently, even unskilled Indian workers are going abroad in large numbers because India doesn't have jobs for them, let alone hi-tech jobs. Indian govt. needs to do something about it rather than depending on the foreign countries to give jobs to Indians. It's a shame for India.

I agree with most of what you said But I think removing the Country Cap for Green Card is a very selfish-indian-move. There are a lot more nationalities that come to USA to study and work on H1b and have successfully benefitted the USA. Although they might be lesser as compared to Indians but they exist. Removing the country cap might be good for Indians but not for Rest Of the World as it would increase their wait time.

H1B needs to end. It was supposed to be a job program to bring the best workers from around the world to the USA. However, it has become a program for Indian workers, as 75% of these visas are used by Indians. Why has it become so important for India, that it has an effect on the Indian GDP (+8%)? What does India do for American workers, except apparently harm them? I would appreciate an answer to these questions.

I acknowledge that there are many talented individuals who benefit from the H1B program, and I fully support improving it to ensure that qualified people can enter the U.S. However, I am concerned about cases where individuals, particularly some from India, reportedly use consultancies to falsify their resumes and secure tech jobs. For instance, I know someone who suspiciously changed their experience from engineer to business analyst, which raises doubts about their qualifications compared to other Indian friends I’ve met who are genuinely skilled. Additionally, I don’t want the U.S. to follow Canada’s approach to immigration; my experience visiting Toronto as a tourist was unpleasant, and I worry that removing the country cap could lead to similar cultural shifts in my state. If this happens, I fear becoming displaced as an American, as I deeply value preserving our local culture. To me, understanding social mannerisms and Western culture is just as important as any technical talent. What’s the point of living in a place that no longer reflects its own heritage?

I am not at all saying Americans are not graduating. Bur there is so much Demand from Silicon Valley or Companies all over US ; Tech & Others ; there is shortage of Engineers; whether American or Non American. Day by Day ; Business is increasing. Next 10 Years; its going to be so busy because of AI Wave ; Semiconductor Designing and so on. ; America needs to get H1B Engineers in more numbers. Look Social fact -- Today ; there are hardly 1 or 2 Children in family. Many Men and Women like to live Single. So White Population is on decrease. Or I say stagnant. On Other side Business demand is increasing. Think and Discuss from this angle also. Keep Politics aside for a while. More Chinese are coming to America but why discuss about Indians only. Many terror elements invaded in US ; like attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania. No one talks about it. Indians have always proved as honest employees. Indians never stolen Technologies and send back home. Always Loyal with Country wherever they work. Has any Hindu Man or Organisation known for Terrorism. A present drama is planned and paid ; may be by Deep State funded by China. America has not yet understand her real enemy. Why talk only about Indians. Putting it in a Bharati frame of reference, let's say I come to your village tuk-tuk factory and you and your mates say, "Who's the White guy?" Someone says, "The boss brought him in to fit a better engine into our tuk-tuk, that won't smoke and will last longer. He's just here six months." So you'd make friends and go out for beers maybe even celebrate Diwali together. A year later, three White guys arrive. The Boss says, "I need you to train them, they're going to be working the line with you so we can improve our process." So you work with the White guys, then after a month, the Boss fires three of you. _The White guys have replaced you!_ Fairly sure you're not going to invite them to Diwali. Another year goes by, and your Boss is really into 'process engineering' now. He has you all write out in great detail every step of making tuk-tuks. He gets all your thumbdrives, then says, _"We're going to have to lay you all off, your jobs are being offshored to Myanmar."_ You know you'd burn down the factory! *Welcome to life in America! $200 Bn a year in US jobs is being offshored to ln'dia.*

Please stop spreading misinformation. Americans love Indians and the culture. Plenty of Indian people in Trump Cabinet. This is about Indian people who grew up in America like me being prioritized over h1b visas. There is no malice here 😊.

Cool that is fair enough and definitely if they can prioritize US citizens over H1B that is absolutely fine. Coming to US universities and tution fees can Indian students also be waived or $20K per year just so that they don't have to take umpty loans here and then after completing have to find a job to pay off their debt? I actually find racism by some of these loomer and bannon team comments as they want to scrap H1B. Why are they shitting on indians when they made the rules and when they gave visas? They can just say H1B is not working and scrap it rather than say Indians are a shit race and so go on about religion and integration bullshit

Yes, US need brainy people which can do good for them, so US should make sure they increase the salary requirements of min $500K / year for IT & $350K/ yr for non IT.
