Preparing for the weather, Meg Grabbed her raincoat and rain boots. Is the participle phrase Preparing for the weather because it ends with ING and Doesn't make sense whilst Meg Grabbed her raincoat and rain boots makes sense on its own therefore it's a main clause please anyone respond and answer
@GetGrammarouswithKerrySensei4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Happy to help. You are right: “Meg grabbed her raincoat and rain boots” is a main clause because it makes sense on its own (it’s independent). On the other hand, “Preparing for the weather” is a participial phrase because of its function: as an adjective. Remember that participle phrases ALWAYS act as adjectives. Also remember that a participial phrase begins with either -ING or -ED, followed by two or more words (modifiers) that complete the thought. In this case, ‘Preparing for the weather’ is a present participle phrase (participial phrase) that describes/modifies Meg. So in short, “Preparing for the weather” is a participial phrase because it begins with a participle and acts as an adjective.
