It is worse than what you think, I have been around Automotive Parts establishments for decades and decades. What they did, was to order two different forms from two different stores. They took the plastic part put it in the aluminum box and then return it and said they they didn't need it and got their money back for the aluminum one period and then kept all the extra money in their pocket

I worked at a warehouse that liquidated Walmart and Amazon returns. It’s crazy the amount of this i saw. People would buy 512gb ssd’s, and swap out the internals from their 128gb and return. People would take iPhones that were activation locked, but a new phone and swap out the logic board and return the bad one. Worst I saw was an entire laptop gutted. They painted a piece of plexiglass to look like an lcd screen, glued ports from a parts motherboard in all the openings, and put washers and Aa batteries inside to give it weight to make it seem legit. I don’t know if Walmart has changed but they need to check this. A simple visual inspection would have shown this was a scam.

Not saying what I did was right but at the end of the day 'Im not paying 300+ for a gasket . someone was going to get ripped off regardless I just made it not be me. always check your stuff before leaving the store I catch stuff like that all the time before I leave the store, I have been gotten way more times than I have got .

My daily commuter is a 2019 Ford Fiesta SE. Uses a metal oil filter, metal oil cooler, and most importantly, it’s the last year of Ford small sedans, and the last engine that uses port injection. No intake valve car non fouling. No turbo either. I don’t know if anyone still makes a small ICE that doesn’t use direct injection. I heard that someone makes a combined direct and port injection to keep valves clean. But I probably can’t afford it.

One time I bought a brand new Playstation 2 from Walmart. When I got home and unboxed it, it was clearly used and had dust clogging the fan in the back, and the DVD drive didn't work. What is supposed to happen is the checkout person is supposed to scan a serial number bar code on the console, visible through a cutout in the box. Whoever accepted the return didn't check this PS2's serial against the receipt. Thankfully I returned it without issue but even when there are safeguards in place, lazy people (or an scamming insider) let this happen. Had the same thing happen when I bought a game at Target. The game was shrink-wrapped and there was a sticker sealing the game, but when I opened it, there was a scratched-up Spanish music CD inside. The lady at Target must have thought I was a scammer, because she didn't want to believe me, and kept eyeballing me when I would come in and do shopping. I asked her how many white guys listen to Mexican music?

That has been a really bad issue with O'Reilly's and the other big name parts houses lately. They do not check returned parts to make sure the returned parts are correct, they just scan it and kick it out the door back to the warehouse and it becomes someone else's problem. This same thing has happened to me too many times on my commercial account and I'm always left wondering where the accountability is held? Lucky they were able to run a correct part back out to you! Ray, I put one of these on my 2012 Wrangler a few years back, per the suggestion of MotorCity Mechanic. At that time, Dorman made these compatible only for 2014+ models. Back then they only sold the lower part of the assembly and you had to transfer over the stacked plate cooler. Since mine was a 2012, that bolt pattern was different. But I lucked out and a guy with a 2014 Wrangler that rolled sold me the oil cooler out of his, so I was able to complete the swap. I combined it with the Baxter spin-on oil filter adapter, which has a built in ADBV (anti-drainback valve) to protect the valve train from dry starts.
@s.murphy8336
@s.murphy8336 8 ай бұрын
The part being mis-boxed probably started at Dorman. Their quality control on the parts might have gotten better, but them boxing stuff wrong has gotten worse. Any time they make 2 versions of a part like this, there's a decent chance you'll get wrong one in the box. Not saying the part wasn't returned by someone else in the wrong box. That is absolutely a problem. It happens all the time, and it makes everybody involved look bad. Beyond the scumbag that returned it, it makes whoever accepted the return look bad, it makes whoever went to sell the part next look bad, and if it made it that far it makes the shop who now has to wait for the correct part, holding up the customer's car, look bad. Nothing worse than grabbing a part off the shelf, going to hand it to the customer, and its completely wrong/used part in the box. Even worse when its a part you ordered in for a customer and it arrives that way.

WHAT A COINCIDENCE I just diagnosed the exact same problem in a Chrysler..... the 'High Temperature Silicon Seals are so toasted from the heat building up in the intake valley that they came out in small chalky pieces like gravel ... It started leaking oil immediately after the oil filter was changed... I found the oil cooler bolts to be less than finger tight and it was only the fact that it had 'accidentally heat-welded' itself together that it wasn't leaking coolant and oil since the day it was shipped this little 8 year old suv/ mini-van has only 23,000 miles on it and the factory left the bolts loose enough to take the cooler off without the specialty E6 socket ( maybe an E8? guess I'll have to find out before I put the new one in 😎 ) in fact I took it down to the block with nothing but a ⁵/¹⁶ a 10mm and a pair of 9 inch long 30° angle-tip needle-nose pliers YES both upper and lower intake , cooler , and everything else that had to be moved WITHOUT THE RATCHET USING THE NEEDLE-NOSE TO TURN THE ⁵/¹⁶ AND 10mm sockets. I took it to bare metal at the bottom of the oil cooler valley with what anyone would call NO TOOLS ... and really I only used the sockets to not round them off so I could actually put the motor together for the first time in its life ... Chrysler driven 23,000 miles and I removed 3 oil cooler bolts with my fingers. ( it overheated and ran low on oil simultaneously but it was saved by the dummy's best friends ( the low oil pressure curoff and the extreme overtemp cutoff ) because it was an instant catastrophic leak for both systems the computer was smart enough to not let it restart. it was brought to my attention because the customer was blaming my oil change kid... who hasn't had a comeback or complaint in years... I'm glad I walked out with only the pliers and a couple sockets in front of the customer and disassembled half the motor.... the complaint was dropped instantly and I will be paid to check everything that is accessible to make sure the screws / bolts are tight while I wait for the cooler and try to operate down 1 lift out of 2.

My recovery hasn’t gone according to plan and I may never get back to full mobility, meaning some of the stupidly inaccessible tasks may forever be beyond my physical capacity. I’m not in the least concerned about reducing my workload. It has always been excessive anyway. I’m not good at saying “no”, so I have often pulled an all nighter, trying to catch up. That sort of self destructive behaviour has to stop and turning away work I may not be able to finish is a good start. But, since 17th January 2023, I have not been able to do ANY work and there are still cars on my ramp, in my bay and parked around my house, awaiting my attention. I’m humbled by the degree of loyalty of some of my long term customers

Turns out the metal coolers don't allow the flex that is needed and leak worse, Sounds crazy, I know, but the original plastic design lasts longer. Have ran into this many times on all of the Pentastar engines. Dorman went back to OE units to correct this issue. Your parts store should have been aware of this.

I have two vehicles with this engine. I ordered for the shelf a “Dorman “ all aluminum oil filter housing. I’m not a Dorman fan but every once in awhile Dorman exceeds oem. One of the 2 vehicles leaked its oil and coolant. Replaced with the new unit and so far we are good. Ordered another one for the shelf ready for the other vehicle.

I see this all the time. Get under the rubber hose and spray wd 40 or any lube then grap the hose and use something to get around the hose while the wd gets in there and they come right off. Folks get lazy and brake things which is most likely plastic. Like you were fighting the exhaust system on the truck hangers. You should have spray wd 40 on all those at one time and you don't even need to use that tool. Sometime you can't even get that tool in some spots. Another bad spot is these stupid engine covers. I found out using grease works the best. I get so tired of these stupid things all they are for mice and small animals to hide under and make a home and eat your wires.. I have seen cats under them even. On my own stuff I leave the stupid things off.

I found that Vapor Canister Filter for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica and it is not in back order at all. It is $19 for that part and there is one left of a certain brand. This site also has AWD parts for that vehicle too. I will make Ray Ray secretly guess where I have found that part at.

We have 15 of these PentaStars in the family of the various generations between 1-3 from 2012 to 2020 and none have had the oil cooler problem. I'm convinced that it's from over-torquing the oil filter cap on the housing and it causes the plastic to break over time. Yes, it should have been aluminum but given they have 12 million of these engines produced to date, it just seems like a huge problem when it's actually not due to how many are on the road. If it was super failure prone they would have been sued into oblivion by now.

@@dennislyon5412 With 12 Million PentaStars produced to date even with a 2% failure rate that would be 240,000 failures. So that is a lot of people complaining about them online but overall it would take failures in the millions before a class action would sue Chrysler into oblivion because they were "all" a problem sort of thing and we aren't seeing that. Sure it should have been aluminum and when I change the Spark Plugs and coolant on my van I'll go the extra step and upgrade it to Aluminum at that time because I like to keep my vehicles until the wheels fall off, so why not sort of thing while I'm in there... But I'm not going to do it before then given that all of the engines in our family are just fine.

When do you suppose we should be looking for heavy duty plastic engine blocks? Aluminum liners with Aluminum pistons. Plastic piston pins, large as possible, connecting rods with a core of aluminum for extra strength. Plastic head molded over rebar for strength. The remainder is all plastic parts. A good solid warranty of 90 days, with exceptions. I believe it is coming soon to a vehicle near you!

based on an earlier video about the plastic oil filter adaptor I decided to change mine to aluminum just because. All of the e-Torx heads were rounded off and I had to drive a smaller socket onto them to remove the bolts. I was not the first person replacing this part. When I installed the e-Torx bolts I quickly learned they are very soft metal and I stripped the first head. I was very careful with the rest of the bolts, but I do wish they were made of a more substantial material because you can't be certain the filter adaptor is forming a complete seal. It is, but I was not comfortable with the limited torque you can apply to these bolts.
