It was so great to find your video recently. My fridge's water dispenser tubing was old and brittle, and finally it cracked at the curve at the end of the spout, leaving me the choice of doing without filtered water, or to have it repaired for a ton of money. Your video granted me a THIRD option: fix it myself! Well, I never would have succeeded in figuring this out on my own, in fact I would have ruined the fridge in the process. I played the video a couple of times (it is really well done, guys), then purchased the tubing, and had it completely fixed in less than an hour. I'm relieved and extremely grateful to you.

Thank you. This video was very informative and extremely helpful. I’d like to add a little hint that helped me feed the waterline. Because the kit I bought comes with the nipple attached, I was forced to feed the water line through from the top. After struggling with trying to get the line to come out the bottom door hinge fitting, I pulled it back out and snipped a bit off the line at about a 45 degree angle which gave it a point. Then I was able to feed it down all the way through with no problem. Then I recut the line at 90 degrees and reattached the line at the fitting. Good luck to all you Do-it-your-sellers like me!
@katrintheodorpoulsen20716 жыл бұрын
When you say that the kit you bought came with "the nipple attached", do you mean that the top end where the water comes out is a rubberlike and angled nipple, and seems to be very sitting very tight? I just cant pull it out, it seems totally fastened.

If the only thing broken is the tube (as was mine), buy it separately at a big box store. I just bought mine for 4.98 at Menards rather than buy a 'repair kit' online for $50 or more. It's sold as "refrigerator water line for ice and water dispensers". 1/4 in OD. I was shocked...it really was as easy as this video shows. Thanks!!

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your help. I knew what the problem was but had no idea how simple the repair was thanks to you. This video probably saved me $200.00 if I had called an appliance repair if i could have found one. You so right ,i could hear right away he is a professional! My father in law used to work for sears as appliance repair tech for years, and dont get me wrong hes genuinely awesome ,but so far the suspension went on our washing machine ,but diagnose was buy a new one.. Our induction cooktop is high end but poor design, big flaw if you run both side same time more than 2 spots the computer board overloads and burns out something.. He took it apart and prognosis..its a POS buy a new one.. Oh i knew there was 1 more recently.. So fter saying the washing machine is garbage..not repairable and he might be somewhat right as it started showing computer board faults too..thanks samsung.. So dumb me bought 1 on auction labeled as new photo 1 far away.. Paying the student fee as i call it realized its not new uppn pickup..had a nice rotten water smell welcoming already..warnig went off ..what if this iis already labeled as " buy a new one" by another r3pair tech..lol.. So im stuck with it but dropped it off with him asked if he cpukd test it to make sure im not working out with washjng machine as free weights into an already tight laundry room where i had to alrewdy remove the laundry sink completely to be able to get old 1 out ..so id like to only do reverse steps 1 time for the next 5years again.. Prognosis, this is A OK! Just needed a cleaning etc..nothing major.. So loaded it agin on my truck and the other 6-7 steps till its all done and laundry room put back togethrr.. Start a load and it wouldnt finish any cycle passed soak amd spin.. So Thank God for this older gentleman and his true knowledge.. Hope anyone read this gets a good laugh..

You are awesome Steve! I wish I'd seen this before I twice repaired the line where it broke- right at the pivot / hinge on the bottom of the door. Once with a quick connect coupler, once with a compression union. This video was very helpful to me even though I have a slightly different set up with my Maytag Model MSD2656DEB french-door refrigerator. I had to repair or replace the rubber actuator pad in the drink dispenser and in the process, the end of the waterline just broke off. It was badly degraded and I was not being heavy-handed. I tried using the water dispenser after the repair, and although the actuator pad now worked, the water was no longer coming out in a single stream and was making a mess. I found this video and tried both pushing and pulling on the plastic line- both from above and below at the hinge, it would not budge. Reluctantly, I decided to remove the freezer door gasket and plastic door liner. Before I did this, I removed the frozen food from the door and put it in another freezer in the garage, but I just took some plastic sheeting and masking tape and made a barrier to "seal off" the main compartment. Once I removed the inner door molded plastic liner, I could see the problem. The waterline came up between a large block of styrofoam and the inside of the door. It then made a 180 deg curve over the top of the styrofoam and then penetrated a hole in the middle of the styrofoam block and was routed downward toward the dispenser unit. Naively, I had envisioned the waterline coming up through some kind of channel that would allow it to be easily removed and re-inserted like in this video. But this was NOT the case in my model refrigerator. There is NO WAY that pulling or pushing on the waterline would remove it without breaking the waterline or possibly destroying the styrofoam block. It was fairly easy to remove the old line with the door apart (I did not remove it from its hinges). I had purchased some new tubing (by the foot, since Maytag no longer makes the replacement kit) and it was very easy to remove the other end of the old waterline from the push-in coupling and then run in the new line from the bottom. I just retraced the path of the old line and then brought it down into the water dispenser unit. With a sharp blade, I cut both ends to the needed length and inserted the lower end into the quick connect coupling. This repair took about 2 hours. As best I could determine, this job would have cost about $350 for a repairman to do it in my area- but that is a compendium of estimates. This was not a difficult repair but it was a bit "labor-intensive" to remove the freezer door gasket and liner. I used a battery-powered screwdriver to remove the screws, but re-installing them required doing it by hand. I can highly recommend using an ice pick (or scribe) to align the gasket, door liner, and the holes in the metal door. I started a couple of screws on all four sides before tightening them down so as to get the spacing and alignment started properly. Another caveat: When I went to repair the actuator pad, it looked like it was in good condition but seemed to have lost some of its elasticity. Ergo, it would let you depress the limit switch easily but after you removed the glass, the water kept on running. I gave it some thought and remembered the quarter-sized firm foam "spacers" that come at the top of a canister of new blank DVDs or CDs. Usually, there are 4-5 of them on the spindle at the top of the stack of disks. I always save stuff like that and this time it paid off. I inserted two of those slightly spongy rubber "washers" on top of the plastic tooth-shaped plunger inside the actuator pad. These two spacers provided just enough resilience to push the plunger back after being depressed to actuate the dispenser switch. In my trial, I found that 3 spacers were two many, ie, they allowed the water to turn off quickly but you had to press too hard on the glass to initiate water flow. Turns out I did not need a new pad after all. I just needed to re-condition the old one. I think you could improvise and make some spacers out of other spongy rubber material if you don't have any of the DVD case spacers that I described. I hope this helps somebody in that same boat.

hi,Thanks for your clear explanation of Airflow in a Refrigerator. I have one rather important question I would like to ask. Your Airflow where does the Air come from. Is it normally a Close Loop System where the Air is constantly re-circulated by the Evaporator Fan in the Fridge, or is Fresh Air Intake going on so that the Evaporator Fan is constantly pulling Fresh Air from the Outside and blowing it through the Evaporator Coils inside the Fridge. Also if it is not a close Loop System and the Fresh Air is constantly being sucked in from outside , is it vented out as it is recirculated inside and replaced by a fresh stream of air. Thanks

There is an error in your video. The position of the old tube in the bracket at 4:43 of the video is not the same as the position of the new tube at 5:16. The new position shown will lead to poor aim of the water stream when the water dispenser is used. I cut the new water tube at a sharp angle before threading it through the door from the bottom. This helped to get it past some invisible obstacles in the door. No neet to trim the tube end after it is threaded - the angle helps the water flow into the glass.

Are all water lines the same? Like is there a standard size? I went to home depot and found several widths. It seemed like the smallest (circumference) would work, however I'm reluctant to take out the existing line with me in order to see if its a match. Our current water line works just fine, but it looks a little gross and the water tastes off. I don't have easy access to the back of the fridge, so pumping vinegar through to clean it seems harder than just replacing the line entirely (or well at least the segment in the video).

In our experience, it's a good idea to ensure that the water line you're purchasing is the correct part for your model refrigerator. Let us know if you need help finding one!

I can't get the new line pushed through the door. It's stuck on some ridges or something inside the tube. I've twisted it all around for an hour, but no luck. Is there a way to get the plastic housing behind the dispenser out so I can see what's sticking? The screws clearly aren't the only thing holding it in place, as that doesn't loosen it at all. Is it glued on?
