how dare anyone have to work on Christmas... i can't even imagine... err.. wait, i actually can't remember the last time i had a job that DID NOT work on holidays. in fact my 12+ hour shift starts in 3 hours, and i start another 12 hour tomorrow night as well. granted if i wasn't working it i would have volunteered with this job.. my old job (retail) i hated it with a passion, and i'm fairly certain it took years off my life. in short, if possible, yes it should be optional for people, and at least extra pay (which it is anyplace i've known), but there is so many people that if we didn't work, it'd be chaos. especially police, firefighters, ambulance and hospital employees.
