"A maverick cop too cool to question witnesses." That's a level of cool that defines logic. One of the great maverick cop troupes has to be the old "right (or wrong) place, right (or wrong) time". That's when the maverick cop just happens to visit a bar, supermarket or convenience store when it is being robbed. The scene usually involves the cop wearing a cool jacket, carrying a signature firearm and delivering an epic one-liner (or two).

For 80s maverick cop goodness, nothing much beats Hunter. Even though the main character is like Harry Callahan (the Clint Eastwood character, not the photographer) - which is more 70s - I think it's because Dirty Harry was one of the progenitors of this kind of character. Anyway, Stephanie Kramer was top tier 80s when Susanna Hoffs wasn't on MTV.

I can never think of Hunter/Fred Dryer without thinking of Frisky Dingo. Xander Crews is running for president and wants Fred Dryer for VP, but his secretary is too incompetent to get the ball rolling. "Well, it seems like Fred HUNTER is willing to be my vice president!" Best respect the decade. Prince of mullets.. I had the same hair when I was a kid. This movie is incredible. What a find. "The Leprechaun franchise" 😄 The sheer incompetence of this detective rivals that of any other legendarily bad movie detectives. Hey I got an idea. A new movie, highly budgeted, where Detective Dan partners with Pistachio Disguisey, from Master of Disguise played by Dana Carvey. And they have to track down a serial killer played by Judd Nelson. He was born to play serial killers. Check out Relentless (1989) a pretty darn good thriller. Anyway, I'd throw in little dedication card in the opening credits, in memory of Richard Hatch. I'll have to run it through my AI automaton of the near future to make it for me and then we can all watch it.

Favorite maverick cop cliches? The entire run of the Adult Swim show Assy McGee: it's literally Dennis Franz's ass acting like Dirty Harry. There's an episode that starts with two dudes robbing a city bus, Assy gets out of his seat and the one dude demands to know where he thinks he's going. Assy says "I'm going...to shoot you" and then domes a random passenger before firing like a maniac in all directions. Bus crashes, one robber gets away, second has a busted leg and needs a doctor but Assy shoots his other leg and tells him "Now you need two doctors."

It won't happen again.' Maverick Detective leaves the office. Unfailingly loyal sidekick detectives are waiting outside. Unfailingly loyal sidekick one: 'well Maverick Detective? What do we do now?' Maverick Detective. 'What do you think? We go and do exactly what I told the Captain wouldn't happen again.' Dr. Eugene Porter. 'I do declare this is my least favourite feature film ever. Because the men in it have such impressive mullets they make me feel even more inadequate!' Rosita: 'But they've got even worse social lives than you.' Eugene. 'Yes well that is a fact.
