I took the train from London to Milan during UK lockdown and it cost €95 each which is perfectly affordable for most people if you make the effort. We arrived around 9pm so there was still time for dinner. Buying a €25 flight is often just a lazy cheap option we all have been conditioned to accept. Just like cheap meat and cheap cloths.

Napoli is my favorite city. The energy, there is some order to the chaos. Last time I was there with my 7 year old daughter. She loves it like I do. Everywhere we went, Centro, Quartieri Spagnoli, Sanitán we were welcome and everybody was nice and smiling. Io amo tutto Napule. Ciao dall'Islanda 🇮🇸🇮🇹

I'm not sure if this isn't directed at Americans, but generally speaking we have some of the lowest amounts of paid time off in the developed world. I think you could make a convincing argument that travelling by train and boat can be more fun, but travelling across the US by train can day multiple days for one direction. If you only have a week or two of vacation you are not going to spend that travelling to your destination.

Why doesn't the US invest on high speed trains? You have such huge flat lands for the most part which it'll make these types of infrastructures easy to build. I understand perhaps the coast to coast's distance is too much, so not convenient, but links between major cities won't be I think. Like New York-Miami or Los Angeles-Seattle
