can was hot so the metal expanded, then when put in the cold water, contracted so rapidly that the can imploded. the event occurred so fantastically as the metal of the cad acted as a conductor, enhancing the effects. pretty simple.

Ice water is not necessary (in the crushing bath)... room tempered water works perfectly
