THANK YOU SO MUCH for expert training knowledge ! Can you please show how to STRIKE, without loosing the cane. I can't figure it. It looks like you would drop the staff, if you bumped into something with it. I know it's designed to form a space around you, that an attacker won't want to advance thru, but I cant figure the science of it.

Regardless of tool be it staff sword etc when starting realize you will bean yourself a lot. But with practice you improve so as said start slow for it hurts less than thinking you’re jet li chan lee etc and you do it at full speed and cause major pain. Same with if you were locked on before but stopped for awhile. Practice practice practice.

@pasquinilli4 жыл бұрын
Haha. Thanks! The comments from you and others are why I keep doing these videos. I got really burned out teaching younger and younger students who have every opportunity to do anything they want (or their parents want them to do.) I had a lot of great students for sure, but so many who were just casual and going through the motions. Martial arts was never made for kids but it has become a “kid thing.” While it’s good for everyone, martial arts is not for everyone. When I started to post these videos on KZbin, I found students who were in love with martial arts, or really excited about it, like I was and still am! This global, virtual dojo recharges and reinvigorates me with every single comment. Well mostly, anyway. So I am very grateful for your kind words. Keep training!

I pick what I am able to do from your videos. Keep up the good work. My wife says she can see a lot of improvement both in movement and speed with the cane, no staff and sticks. Thank you. My group uses a "Jo". They are shorter, from the height of your armpit to one fist below, and not tapered. Handy in a tight space. I'll try your technics.

Awesome! The Jo is my absolute favorite staff! I have one made by Bujin designs in Colorado out of white oak. It has been my hiking companion over twenty five years! Have you seen any of my jo tutorials or workouts? I’m not the best, but I am very passionate about the Jo too!

Smooth. Been watching quite a few vids on this sir. Some pretty good.....others, not so much. I have just began Taekwondo about 2 months ago and love it so far. I just purchased a toothpick bo staff and want to learn to work with it. Your training techniques seem to be the best to understand and I just subscribed recently to your channel. I got a late start at this.....I am 59 but in pretty good shape still and want to push myself to advance as far as I can with this. Thank you for putting out videos that are easy to understand and to learn.

Hi Matt. After getting proficient with the single handed spins, I tried placing my hand closer to the end of the stick (the short end of the stick touches my armpit, with arm extended). I can now get some awesome speed with the long end and can really hear those air molecules complaining! The reverse spin (pinky leading) feels safest in terms of not hitting my shins or ankles. I don't ever want that to happen. Not at these speeds. Mass x Velocity squared can do some real damage, especially the velocity squared part! Took my first lesson from you 9 months ago. Thank you!

This is an excellent legal weapon for fending off multiple attackers.

Nice. The online school I use has a ranked bojustsu program. It looks pretty cool, haven't tried it yet.
@pasquinilli5 жыл бұрын
That’s cool! Just my two cents, you don’t really need to pay for rank with weapons. It’s all free online and most of the work is done when you actually practice yourself.

Was bored and taking a break during finals, grabbed a spare closet rod to hang clothes on, and am currently having fun. The reverse spinning hand to hand is super tricky, but I'll get it eventually. Thanks for the video, I enjoy feeling like I'm in an action movie!

This is exactly what I was looking for. I am developing my own style of using a staff and I have everything I need to start stringing it together and this is what I needed.

Awesome. Good luck! I have a new curriculum guide that might also help. Check out my newest uploads for that training and keep going on your own style!
