As good as the paperwork looks on the Zino, I still will go with the DJI Mini-2. Maybe in a year or so when Hubsan fixes all the problem's I'll think about getting it, but for now. DJI is far superior then the Hubsan. Thanks for sharing

Wearing a dark grey shirt while tracking in a dark grey parking lot in low/low angle light, going in an out of darkish shadows might not lead to the best tracking results...These visual tracking systems typically work best when there is color contrast and not low light conditions (e.g., sunset). Shadows will often times confuse them. I bet a light shirt in better lighting conditions probably would have made a pretty big difference in results. It would be nice if it worked any lighting condition..but unfortunately that's just not the case with most of these systems. Maybe give it a try it on a bright sunny California day..... say in Black Mountain Park.

I think the tracking is based on contrast, that's why it has difficulties tracking you when there is that jump from light to shadow. Coo review thanks for doing it

It wasn't only the shadows bamboozling the visual tracking. The white road markings in the parking lot also affected it. Surely something that can be rectified in software (the elevation issue too).

Eeks, so many caveats. Very nice test. The follow me mode using GPS (in theory) would be super useful on other drones as a ancillary tracking method to overcome visual tracking challenges (akin to Skydio’s Beacon).

Yeah, I've been using the litchi app follow mode with the mavic mini while cycling and it works really well, I wonder how the zino mini would do while cycling with follow me. Though the litchi app seems to have a lot more options for follow mode which helps.

Over here in England it's about £480 for this drone. The DJI Mini 2 Fly more kit is about £100 more. Neither has follow me capabilities and the DJI looks to be better quality. I think I'd go DJI based on this video. Great video by the way, really well produces and covered everything. 👊

They are still listed in pre-sale on the website. So I guess it's still in development. I hope in and update they'll join GPS and active track. Use active track to track but use also GPS of the remote to calculate height and prevent loosing the target. Not more hardware that would be only software update. In Canada the license to use a more than 250g drone closer than 30m of bystander cost more than a Mavic air 2s which just render them unmarketable for the solo user that want a drone to follow them while riding.

Aldrin...nice video as always...this thing looks like a Mavic air 2 that got hit by the "Honey I shrunk the kids" ray gun lol. Too bad it doesn't track all that good. Have you heard of a 3rd part app called Drone Link for the Mavic Mini (not sure if they added support for Mini 2/Mini SE). I saw something where it did waypoints and somewhat tracking.

DroneLink and Litchi are both 3rd party apps/addons that offer Waypoint functionality and some other stuff (e.g., tracking in the case of Litchi) but any of these third party vendors require that the Drone provider offer an API/SDK so that their app can be programmed to work for that drone. I doubt that Hubsan offers the required API/SDK that Litchi & DroneLink would need to make their app work on the Hubsan drone.

I'm waiting to upgrade from the DJI Mini 2 to a drone with good active track. This was disappointing. I want it to follow me on my bicycle down and up hills reliably. I hope for a sub 250 gram that's as quiet as the Mini 2 drone. I'd rather not get the larger and much louder Air 2s

This explains some of the other reviews showing it tracking with several cuts in the video and perfect locations like flat concrete and no shadows. The biggest issue with this quad is the heat it produces and the effects that has on loss of video and features when it does. Have you had any usb disconnect? It just don't work and this is what a lot of people wanted but it's absolutely rubbish you might as well get dji mini download litchie although I've never used it I've seen videos and it does a lot better than the zino mini for a lot lot less and I think if you want a drone that does this look a buying a dji air 2 on the secondhand market for probably the same price as the zino but the difference is it will work and because of the air 2s the air 2 have gone right down on price so your going to get a bargain anyway thats my opinion 😀 thanks for another great honest review look forward to some more 😁👍👌🇬🇧

@@cubiq1 Firmware is very complicated compared to most other forms of software development, especially at this scale - and that complexity can quicky multiply depending on the specific codebase (e.g. its architecture and the development methodologies that have been used over its lifetime). It's not really possible to take a guess at the amount of effort required sight unseen, but it is safe to say that it very likely wouldn't be a small amount. From this video and others I've seen, I'd break the bulk of the work down into 4 main areas; 1) tracking while the target stays visible but the brightness has changed (going into/out of shadows), 2) tracking while obscured (likely assuming the target maintains a constant velocity), 3) re-acquiring lost tracking/searching, and 4) maintaining relative elevation to the tracked object. 1) may require a different computer vision technique (and they may have not done so based on the performance requirements), 2) requires a certain level of abstraction in the tracking architecture and determining relative velocities, 3) may again require a different computer vision technique, and could be costly in terms of performance, and 4) requires accurately determining distance from the tracked object (not directly possible from just an object in the camera frame, as it could be a large object far away or a small object up close - or anywhere in between. Assuming a fixed elevation simplifies the problem). Even state of the art object tracking in video editor apps struggle with 1-3, and that's offline where performance is of relatively little concern. So yes, lots of complicated (and fun!) things, any of which could be weeks or months of work depending on many factors. But you never know either, and all the parts might be in place so that all those things can be achieved quite easily, and it's just a matter of tuning what's there and doing some incremental improvements! From the video and my experience using computer vision for object tracking, I suspect it's more the former than the later.

That was quite disappointed. IMO the drone should at least continue tracking after stopped for losing focused object or after stop due obstacle sensor. The drone speed while tracking also quite fast. Lets hope Zino to fix this on future update. Though I have no ZMP. 😂

It always loses its tracking after a couples of meters when I use it, mostly when the camera lose the contrast from the object (me) to the background. Even with bright clothing it loses it. So it´s pretty disappointing to me. DJI can do a much better job with that tracking feature.

Good review as always, but Hubsan and their products are unreliable. I'm glad you were able to point out the many flaws with this drone. They hyped it up on paper, but didn't deliver. I'm looking forward to the Mini 3 or Evo Nano.

Autel's Nano, if it follows literally every release they have done, won't be around till After CES, and then at least 3 slipped release dates, lol. The V2 Smart Controller I'm waiting for since late July has been pushed back 4 times at least, during which Autel released the Enterprise Kits... with Smart Controller! The ones they can't seem to deliver.

Why can't they just have the drone follow the controller? With all the processing power available in the drone it shouldn't be that hard. I'm planning a flight of a bicycle riding adventure with friends around a county park, and basically I'm going to have to program waypoints and use average speed to have my Mavic 2 track us.

Walking on a dark grey surface and wearing a dark grey shirt may prevent the algorithm to differentiate between you and the surface. The sidewalk would’ve provided greater contrast.

Guess it shows why some companies like DJI hasn't packed these features on sub 250 gram sized drones, I still see companies haven't played ketch up to what DJI put out in 2017, sort of a shame but that's the way it is, aesthetics is also sort of lacking, there's nothing that put this drone over look wise to distinguish it & make it more appealing the controller could use some polishing likewise, looks boring, like the Autel Evo 1, some didn't like the look of it, but when u see that bright orange drone in the sky, then you know it's an autel drone, Husban should take notes, no wander this drone crashed on their initial Livestream, rather stick with Mini 2 & call it a day, thanks for the very informative video!

Good video but disappointing drone. Tracking is obviously not there yet, also switching the software/controller to Imperial does not work well either as return home is still in meters! Can't fly indoors as well and camera features need to be adjusted only after in the air, very disappointing to spend this much for so little that does not work. The only main plus for me is it does not lock you out of NFZ locations like DJI, thanks for that! I have the mini pro and also my "great" and trust worthy Autel Evo ll.

This drone has major OVERHEATING ISSUE. That’s why Hubsan gives you protective heat cage and turns off camera in landing position and has OA off when you start up. If you turn everything on ie. tracking, video recording (200mbs) OA (obstacle detection) and fly for more than 15 minutes the drone will overheat and automatically shut off all the features or worse total drone failure.
