Nobody can beat the British, for Ripping the piss out of themselves. A sure sign that society has the ability to laugh at itself, and it’s institutions. ( by the way) I have sat in the Sgts Mess, much as depicted in the sketch. My last Mess Dress cost best part of £1000. That was thirty years ago!!!!! I nearly wet my trousers laughing 😂 at it.

Ripping Yarns was excellent, and this scene in the officer's mess has passed into legend and down the memory hole. But this was produced well over 40 years ago. Reality is most British comedy & especially Sitcoms (with the usual exceptions: python, towers, blackadder, yarns, good life) is quite poor
