OSPF know configurations commands and show commands. Know how areas are created, networks, wildcards. How DR and BDR is chosen as well as IDs. EIGRP is on there, know metrics and distances. No labs, but be able to read and understand outputs from the show commands. Some subnetting, even IPv6. HSRP command, CDP and LLDP, root bridge and how root and alternate interfaces are chosen. Some link aggregation questions. Look at Jeremys IT Lab on here, he explains stuff very well and he doesn’t talk fast like CBT nuggets dude. He doesn’t go off topic either. ALSO find another book to reinforce topics. I found that Netacad didn’t explain stuff well, but I used another source to reinforce and get a different explanation that helped me learn the topic. Good luck. I am either going after DevNet or CyberOps next. Got a 737 on CyberOps, needed 825. And i know what i screwed up on, forensics.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your tips. I had just signed up with Boson last night. Also using the NetworkChuck & David Bombal This is IT CCNA vids. Curious on your thoughts about the JNCIA cert. I see it as a sort of stepping stone toward the CCNA. Yes its Juniper, not Cisco, but seems like a worthy stop along the way.
@b.m.robertson59594 жыл бұрын
You think??? I don't know (abt to take CCNA) but I'd venture to say its Cisco then Juniper...why? Only b/c you don't really have very good material to study for the JNCIA compared to the CCNA (PLEASSSSE correct me if I'm wrong, I'll buy it on the spot lol!). If you have passed the CCNA from what I hear, you get networking and JNCIA is just going to test you on Juniper specific (which people say is relatively easy, almost like if you are a chef ,learning a new dish/style isn't really hard b/c you know the basics) But I want both....

I am using Todd Lammles book, Ned Anderson Udemy course, college Netacad and cisco equipment class, and Thinking about purchasing boson. I really want this certification before I graduate in May. Sometimes it feels like it is so much information. I think I have been getting better at studying just by doing it. Any tips? I do not do good with notes. I am better hands on, and some good videos. So I do not think I'll go the note route.

Get the Boson EXMAX practice exams. Best practice exams you can use to get on the same channel and the actual exam. (Copy & Pasted) lol

Congrats bro!!! do you have an opinion on ciscos course? I'm running through their course right now, passed through IPv6 and working in VLANs... Also are the books a good way to get some more depth... Ciscos videos are good but I find myself checking youtube on some topics here and there for some further information. Again congrats on your accomplishment! Hitting that follow button

I did the same. I found myself reading the book to fill in the gaps when it comes to the video courses. Thanks for the support!

Congrats, I'm using Jermey's IT Lab course. and i have NetSim and Exsim, But how do you describe the similarity between Exsim questions and the real CISCO Exam.
@TheBuffNerd75393 жыл бұрын
The boson exam for the CCNA and the actual exam are definitely in the same ball park. If you are scoring high on the exams you will be just fine taking the cert.

A little late commenting on this but congrats on passing! I'm going through the cbt nuggets course myself right now and I'm finding those videos paired with the virtual labs they have, as well as using packet tracer to follow along with what the instructors are doing in the videos is helping me tremendously to retain the information. My only concern right now is the OCG books. I'm planning on getting those soon and was wondering if you had any tips on how to use them. Right now, the videos are working very well for me, but the thought of making time to read those books cover to cover is giving me hella anxiety lol. Would using them maybe just to supplement the areas I'm weaker in be sufficient. Just as a fill in the gaps type thing?
@TheBuffNerd75394 жыл бұрын
Yes that is exactly how you should use the books. I only referred to the books for subjects that I am not so confident in. For example Spanning Tree lol. I read the entire section that talk about spanning tree in order to fill in the gaps and feel prepared.

Congrats! I'm currently working on studying for this CCNA myself and I'll make sure to take a look at those practice exams! I was wondering if you would be able to help guide me though! I ultimately want to break into Security and Network Pen testing so I was thinking after the CCNA I'll work towards the OSCP but do you think I should get the Security+ Or something before? Thank you so much!
@TheBuffNerd75394 жыл бұрын
The security+ is a very well balanced exam. If you are not familiar with the security side of things then yes I would recommend you obtain that first. how familiar are you with network security?
@Kyrisol4 жыл бұрын
@@TheBuffNerd7539 I'm actually not too familiar so I think I might as well shoot for the security+ To make sure sure I have that broad understanding before I jump into pentesting.
@TheBuffNerd75394 жыл бұрын
Kenesu-kun yes do that! Trust me, the Sec+ is the basics but it is still a tab bit tough. I jumped in recklessly and failed it lol twice. So do your due diligence and study the material to understand it. Not just to past the certification. 👌🏾

Yes. The test was pretty broad. All topics should be studied equally.

How did you work in into a sysadmin role?
@TheBuffNerd75393 жыл бұрын
I held positions as Network Admins, not sys admins. The lines get blurred a lot lol but from the feel of it, I was more network than system.

I’m interested in networking roles but don’t know where to begin. I’m new to the field of IT and have no prior experience. Should I start off getting A+ and network+ certs before going for the ccna?
@TheBuffNerd75393 жыл бұрын
Get the A+ first! Land a entry level role if you dont already have one and then head straight for the CCNA. :)

I am now starting my journey to pass the exam! I’m working on a service desk right now with my goal to get into a Network Engineer position before or after I complete my certification! This video was perfect for me. I even bought the official cert guide too and I’m also new to the IT world as you. Thanks! And you said you got the certification book to read along with the video? Is that what I’m understanding?

Yes! I used the book to fill in the gaps between topics while going through the video series.

how many months did it take for you? im super lagging behind on mine. i have vol 1 official book but its so dry and boring... and the cbt nuggets im paying for but i've pumped the breaks and its hard for me to really study for long periods of time. i was working at a one man msp as a tech/assistant, but i took a lesser role at a bigger company as it support admin assistant... but this big company uses a vendor for the actual IT stuff i want to be doing (which i was doing at an entry level at my old job) but big job pays more
@TheBuffNerd75393 жыл бұрын
I get that, unfortunately that's how it is sometimes. All that glitters isn't gold. If you feel like this job is going no where I would recommend leaving for a role that will get you more concrete experience. I am actually in that situation now.

im looking to take the CCNA to begin my IT career. Ive been driving a truck for 20 years and need a change. Do you think its feasible for me to get hired with just a CCert and no experience?

Depends on the position you are applying for. If your shooting for an entry level role I believe you should be able to land a job no problem.

Sup been studying to take the CCNA exam almost ready for it and I'm new to IT, never had a help desk job and dont want one, would i be able to get a Network admin position with just a CCNA?
@TheBuffNerd75394 жыл бұрын
The chances are very slim I won't lie. Also helpdesk experience is kind of crucial, knowing the different tiers will make you a better IT Professional. If skipping the helpdesk is what you want to do best thing I can suggest is learning routing and switching from front to back! Do a lot of Mock interviews and make sure you are the best candidate if you get the opportunity to interview. Getting an interview may be hard because you don't have experience but its not impossible. Buckle down and be the best! I'm rooting for ya!

What Boson score % rangre were you getting before you took the new CCNA ?
@TheBuffNerd75394 жыл бұрын
80-90% but I took each test twice. The first time was to understand the answers to the questions I got wrong. The next attempt was to ensure I understood the topics. If your scoring in that range you will definitely be ready for the exam. 👍👍👍😁

Someone says CCNA, CCNP, CCIE in Routing-Switching might lose its popularity over the time in next few years, as the industry is shifting towards cloud, network virtualization (SDN/NFV). Cloud infrastructure will make Security related courses very popular. Then what would i do? Go for ccna or having sdn?
@TheBuffNerd75393 жыл бұрын
CCNA in my opinion will still be relevant for the next few years. Getting it will definitely getting you a gig now. But immediately afterwards you should shift to security or cloud.
