My great uncle was in a POW camp and as the allied forces got closer, Nazis made them march continuously to other camps. My uncle said that no matter how bad it got, he knew that the people in the concentration camps had it much much worse and it made him mad. He used that anger to stay alive because he wanted to be there to see the Nazis lose and to be able to help the concentration camp victims be set free.
@adolfolerito674429 күн бұрын
I don’t know where he was, but that’s different from my family’s experience. In every part of my family, either my grandparents themselves or their brothers were taken prisoner. In total, six of my great uncles ended up in German prison camps (another five in soviet gulags), and one of my grandpas ended up in two different concentration camps, first Mauthausen-Gusen, and then Monowitz in 1944. Only when he was sent to Monowitz (which was in the Auschwitz complex) did he learn that the Jews were being exterminated. Before he never saw anything, and even though there were some people saying “germans are taking people away by train to kill them”, including his comrades (he was arrested in an operation against his partisan cell), many simply didn’t believe it, because since WW1 outrageous propaganda was just the norm. My great uncles were ALL sent to either POW camps or forced labor camps, to make bombs, bullets, to farm, etc. and most of them reached the end of the war without knowing what was happening in the concentration and extermination camps… they learnt about everything when the camps were liberated by the allies or when Germany surrendered, and they had to walk to their homes in Italy from wherever they were. Just to let you know how secretive everything was: one of my grandmas is actually from Germany. She comes from a small town near Königsberg (which now has been renamed after the piece of trash that was Michail Kalinin and has been ethnically cleansed of everybody, including my grandma), and even though she was there and four of her brothers were in the Wehrmacht, they all learnt that the concentration camps existed maybe one month before Germany surrendered, when the son of their neighbor (who had entered in the Gestapo shortly before) told them. Now we take the existence of the extermination camps and what happened in the Holocaust as granted, but during WW2 it wasn’t like this. Information was really slow backed then, and even more if you didn’t live in a city… Anyway I’m really happy that your great-uncle came back to tell that story. I hope that he lived a great and fulfilling life, and that you all treasure his precious history.

@@adolfolerito6744 Very respectfully, I think both experiences can be true. It took almost a year for the allies to liberate concentration camps. Plus WELL before that, it was well known that Jews were being rounded up, losing all their possession and later being sent to "work camps." BUT media was nothing compared to today, all news took weeks to get out, and I recall reading that many in the military tried to keep it quiet so they wouldn't know attacks were coming. So I can easily see someone IN the military, esp trying to do this, having been told of what they are about to do, and others not knowing. Having too large of an ego will get you killed when dealing with mentally ill people. He not only saved his own life, but those behind who saw it was possible. Instead of his family tree ending with him, he was able to swallow his pride and provide generation after generation after generation to his family. ❤ THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF A STRONG MAN
@deputyhobbs9683Ай бұрын
I doubt he had children after what he described.... His poor almond joys Still I dont think it's ego to stand up to evil people at the cost of your life, I think that's pride, I'd rather die sending a message than be beaten for years as some kind of slave and let live after. Not to undermine what he did at all but it's not ego to stand up to people
@thomnicedАй бұрын
@@deputyhobbs9683 I'm so sorry but you are incorrect in your definitions. I didn't go back and read my comment but I believe pride was mentioned as well. It is absolutely ego when you can't take someone talking sh!t about you or treating you "lower than". Again I'm sorry, not trying to bruise your obviously very sensitive ego. Yes, ego. If your choice would be to die because running your mouth to them for 5 seconds before they ended you would make you feel better and not effect them in any way, that is your choice. And many unintelligent with huge egos who can't stand another talking down to them, even if they know it's untrue and they still can't control themselves, find themselves no longer on this Earth. There are so many videos you can watch, right on here, where there is a fight and a man's ego leads to the end of his life and it meant nothing. There weren't people standing around applauding his ego and pride. His widow and children have nothing to be proud of. His ego trying to win out over the man with the weapon was nothing but weak, selfish, and HIGHLY unintelligent. When you are dealing with mentally ill people, your ego and pride will be buried right along with you. And for the people who prefer that, RIP. For the strong and intelligent you will win by living to see another day. You will beat the enemy by continuing on and living a happy life and building a family. While in this case, the guard was killed, arrested on war crimes, or ran and hid for the rest of his life. So who won here? But you said you would prefer being thrown on to a mountain of other dead people because you would have gotten out what...2 or 3 mean words??? 🤣 I mean honestly...why I would even try to speak with someone who says these words are beyond me. There is no intelligent conversation to be had here. The fact a person would take the time to comment negatively on such a positive post on a freaking Holocaust survivor video, tells us what we need to know. Even stating the man probably has no family. And saying all those who survived shouldn't have; that they should have stood up to the line of psychopaths with guns and just ended their lives for pride shows us they don't even have a first grade knowledge of the word. If you want to stand up and have pride in being Jewish before they killed you, absolutely you should. If your cannot take saying two simple words like "thank you", because you can't stand the thought of these psychopaths seeing you as below them, then it would be your ego that got you killed. Not pride in who you are...the ability to take in negative words, even if you know them to be untrue. Or positive words. You know inflate someone's ego? No easier way to explain.

And yet we have people in the streets calling for the annihilation of the Jewish state right now. And our first world countries are allowing that to happen. In Canada, the government is censoring the news, and sending people who refuse to say with the government wants said, to “reeducation training” at the expense of the person that the government wants “ re-educated”. We’ve all been through strict lockdowns, where families were fined hundreds of dollars for being outside by themselves in the fresh air, while politically correct activists, murdered people in the streets, walking cheek to jowl in the hundreds of thousands, And respectable and hard-working people are thrown in jail for years, for the crime of asking to speak to somebody well placed in the government. and let’s not forget that we no longer have the choice to access online information; only what the government says it’s OK for us to access. We’ve seen government actively lying and accusing people of murderous plots, Which have been proven to be false, Hand citizens who go for medical help, particularly veterans, having death pushed at them. And, of course, to silence those who asked for a conversation with the highest level of government, as the legal right, Those sane people at the highest level of government lied about those asking for a conversation, scuttled the country’s economy, accused neighbouring nations of financing, the request, and so forth. I hate seeing when innocent citizens lose their lives regardless of their country just because the waring countries want war. When the people just want peace and to live their lives they shouldn’t be dragged into the govt’s nightmares!

@@LoriDavid-pg2bv Children, even babies were put into camps as well. I fear to know what happened to the babies. They were not useful in the camps. NOT ONLY were they not useful in the camps, but very young children needed more attention and care. I doubt the régime took kindly to many babies. They were a problem. But yes, children were there as well. If they could carry, lift, or help out in any way they were good as prisoners. Also,the experiments on twins was very important to them so some young children were there as lab rats.

I once came to know a lady who was born in Birkenau village. She said there was a place where she could see Mengele. She described the mothers crying for their children and the children crying for their mothers. Seems these voices haunted her to the age of 92. She lived in a geriartric home in the middle of germany and told her story to every nurse on night shift. She was clear in her head. She wanted us to know and do her best that this would never happen again.
