Ms. Carroll was the first Black actress to be awarded the Tony Award: (Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical) for the Broadway musical mentioned within this episode: No Strings. As the first Black Actress to star in a non-domestic lead role, she was awarded the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress in a Television Series in 1969, for her portrayal of Julia Baker in (Julia). Carroll received two additional Golden Globe Award Nominations for (Julia) & (Claudine) in 1970 & 1975 respectively. Additionally, she was twice nominated for the Emmy Award: (Julia) in 1970, and: A Different World (Marion Gilbert) in 1989; and received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Actress category for her title role portrayal of: (Claudine) in 1974. From 1984-1987, her career was revived when she portrayed Dominique Devereaux in the glitzy ABC prime time soap opera Dynasty: and its spin-off, The Colbys; both produced by Aaron Spelling. Carroll was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Spelman College in 2005. She was famously and tumultuously romanced by actor Sidney Poitier, and later broke her long engagement to journalist David Frost. A three-time divorcee (Monte Kay, Freddie Glusman, Vic Damone); and one-time widow (Robert DeLeon), she was survived by her daughter; Ms. Suzanne Kay Bamford, sister Lydia Johnson, and two grandchildren. She suffered from a recurrence of Breast Cancer and Dementia at the time of her death. b. Carol Diahann Johnson (7/17/35). d. Ms. Diahann Carroll (10/4/19). ...Rest In Beauty and Splendor. 👍🏽💯🛐🙏

Ironically, Miss Carroll briefly had a contract with Motown. Berry Gordy used to "contract" lovely and talented Black singers like Diahann Carroll & Barbara McNair in order to eliminate the competition against the less talented but ambitious Diana Ross. He would then offer them huge advances & have them record singles that somehow never saw the light of day. Diahann Carroll got wise and refused to sign a long-term contract in favor of a more lucrative contract with Columbia Records.

I vaguely remember her in Dynasty watching as a child, but it was always the beautiful and hilarious Joan Collins I remember, she was just so OTT. I think she's a good role model, she isn't harsh, aggressive or overly sexual, she has decorum and dignity, and dresses ladylike. In some ways we've regressed, which is a shame.
