OMG Laurence Harvey was a god. That bone structure, he didn't have a bad camera angle.

Heh, Lawrence Harvey joking with Georgia Brown about her name when his original name was Larushka Mosheh Skikne! Love both Georgia and Laurence... such a different era of television... so civilized. Harvey's partner, the woman, is an incredibly good player.

I just checked IMDB: Georgia Brown was Jewish, born Lillian Klot. Laurence Harvey was also Jewish, born Tzvi Mosheh Skikne. My tribesmen! Oy, who knew? (Growing up in the 1960's in the U.S., in a secular Jewish community, I thought everyone was Jewish. On TV, I saw Barbra Streisand, Lauren Bacall, Joan Rivers, Totie Fields, Phyllis Diller, Barbara Walters, Kirk Douglas, Alan King, Stiller and Meara, Sammy Davis, Jr., and even Ed Sullivan's wife was a Jewish woman named Sylvia (like my aunt), whom he greeted in the audience. On the radio, I listened to Neil Diamond and Simon and Garfunkel ... it was even rumored that Ringo was Jewish (this was false).) My experience in high school and university broadened my outlook, of course. It's amazing to look back to those days!

Phyllis Diller was not Jewish. She discusses this in her autobiography. She says that when she was starting out in the first years of her career people assumed she was Jewish and would give her gifts that were used for the holy day dinners and she had no idea for quite a while...
@randigerber19262 жыл бұрын
I stand corrected. But I forgot to mention 2 other famous Jews in the 1960’s: Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. It SEEMED to me that almost everyone was Jewish ... even Phyllis Diller!

Did you HEAR Allen tell Laurence to "QUIT IT?" (and that's exactly how he said it too, he YELLED). Laurence would cheat, Allen would tell him to stop. He'd cheat again, Allen would tell him to stop. He'd cheat a third time, and Allen was just like, QUIT IT!" (you could tell he was getting frustrated with him)

Love these old shows, give us an idea of the times back then. Ludden to male contestants: "What do you do?" Ludden to female contestants:"Are you married/what does your husband do?"
@joeambrose32604 жыл бұрын
Later it evolved to " Are you a working girl ?"
@waldolydecker81182 жыл бұрын
Maybe he could have insulted the female contestants who didn't work professionally (as most didn't back then) by asking them "what do you do?" - leaving the women to talk about how well they kept house, cooked meals, and raised the kids, etc. Of course, then someone would point out that he kept asking women "what do you do?" when clearly he knew most women did not work professionally.
@kentetalman900811 ай бұрын
Ludden knew ahead of time what each contestant did. He asked them about whatever was interesting in their lives. If their work or private lives were more interesting, that's what he asked them. It had nothing to do with gender.

I had never heard of that actor before (Laurence Harvey) but what a looker! (No Homo). As a side note, it would have been fun to see Laurence Harvey and James Mason imitate each other, LOL!

Sorry for leaving so many comments I'll try to make this the last one (LOL) for "Squid" I'm surprised nobody just squinted enough to barely get away with it (sort of like Georgia Brown did for the first clue) and speak the clue "Peer..." (And for "Noose" Georgia just missed saying the word "Neck")

Although technically I think they don't use proper words, I'm wondering if you can use as a clue "Cyprus…" (Said in that sort of leading, singsong-y way, indicating another word follows). If they were to argue it, you could say "well, I was talking about a cypress tree!) :-)
@kentetalman900811 ай бұрын
Proper words are ok as clues, but there are none as passwords.

I KNEW he was gay (that one gesture inparticular to me so). And YES, it was GOOD that he "stayed in the closet" since homosexuality is a sin and detestable in God's eyes! (and if you know your Bible, you know that's true, so please don't respond back by saying something that God didn't say)
