Make a hair mask with coconut oil, avocado, honey and extra virgin olive oil

+Milton Start taking better care of your hair. Avoid bleaching (the blonde foils) for quite some time, use a good quality shampoo/conditioner, as well as good products. Use a good leave in treatment, such as unrefined coconut oil (make sure it says UNREFINED!). You can't really repair hair, but you can prevent further damage and ensure regrowth stays healthy. Avoid excessive heat as well (ie- hair dryer, curling iron, flat iron). Protect from the sun.

What I do is put coconut oil on my hair, and then I shampoo my hair after wards. I would usually put the coconut oil on at about 5 in the evening, and then take a shower at 7. It hydrates the hair, and works pretty well!

Lo'Real HiColor in Red with a 30 developer is made for dark hair and it has ammonia instead of bleach and it's very bright if you'd like to try :) it's from Sally's.

Nope. Unless you only want it to show up in the sun. Do a bleach wash (equal parts bleach, developer, and shampoo), it shouldn't damage your hair and it'll lighten a few shades so that the red will show up.

Natalie Payet Are you an expert? I don't think so. Ammonia isn't particularly good for your hair but it doesn't strip the keratin like bleach does; removing any or all pigment. Coloring your hair at all is not good for it but if someone wants to damage it then why not? Ammonia free doesn't show up on dark hair that's almost black, it fades quickly too.

I think it depends on what you mean by 'dark red'... If you want a strong red colour that just happens to be a dark shade, than you'll need bleach, but if you don't mind dying the red over the dark brown hair and not having it as such a strong colour, you'd probably get a dark red shine to your hair. Of you do end up bleaching it though, I've heard coconut oil bleaching helps to keep your hair healthy... I've not done it myself though.

If you want a dark red/purple color then I think it'll work...but if you want to color it anything else after you color it red...it's very difficult to remove. I had dark red hair and I wanted to lighten my hair but spent so much money and time trying to get it to where I want it. Right now it's a light brown color...

Guy I have a question for you. I have advanced ovarian cancer and have finished my first rounds of chemo. my hair, eyebrows and lashes are back. My hair is almost an inch long. I'd suggest going to a professional for that because for a light purple you're going to have to bleach it and it's much better To get it bleached by a professional and then either have them dye it or dye it yourself :)

+herclovesme If you're not planning to use bleach to lighten your hair (can and will cause damage without protection/treatments) with just purple dye on top you'll probably get a dark purple grape color with some light purple (on top of the silver strands). Will be beautiful in the sunlight but in doors it will be dark but you can still tell that it's purple just not highlighter or lilac purple. You can always try a purple hair spray for a day too since they usually just wash off (though say if you use black hair spray on platinum blonde hair your results will vary depending on the brand).

I've used color removers plenty of times on permanent color and I know they can be drying but it NEVER fried my hair like that I don't understand.

+moonmothh It's possible she used a metallic based color on her hair and the color remover had an adverse effect to that. A lot of color corrector specifically state not to use them if you have put a metallic based color in your hair.
