Thanks so much for sharing your talent and videos with us! I went from being an acrylic painter to delving into coloured pencils! DIAASTEROUS! The reverse working of the colours caused me to trash many many paintings! BUT-having done some pastels years ago, I decided to experiment-and GOT HOOKED!!! Thanks for your wonderful wildlife art videos, they have helped me soo soo very much!

You are starting with a great job, faster than the learning curve that I took. Now pastels are an area I've walked through the learning curve for the last five years. I've learned so much from you in oils and so appreciate your lessons. I thought I would share pastels in hopes I could pay back some of what you have shared with me. So hear goes. The paper I use most of the time is a sanded paper. Sometime hard to find but the layers and detail you can produce on your pastels are amazing. Because of the sandpaper feel, I find that The blending was starting to eat away at my fingerprints.lol. I loved to blend with my fingers and the tortillions were just not strong or detailed enough. I finally discovered the rubber blend sticks...all shapes and sizes. My fingerprints are back and those work great. The order you used your pastels, from the soft base laying layer up to the harder faber sticks and contes are exactly right. You are totally getting the technique down very quickly. Love your work and you are a great teacher. Thank you for teaching me oils. I am now the featured artist for the Sacremento safari club...thanks to all you instruction!

Brilliant video. Really helped me as a new artist to understand why I'm having trouble with my layering. Derwent pastel paper really is rubbish. I've never had an art lesson even at school I didn't have art lessons and I have been trying for about 7 months now. Thank you for uploading. :)

hello! how are you? i'm solomon from the philippines, but currently working in riyadh. I really love drawing, but sometimes my attention shifted from drawing to other stuff. Honestly, when i was in elementary, i was expose in art and that's the beggining of my love in drawing. I saw a pastel pencil in a brochure and it is on sale specifically DERWENT and i search in youtube about a review on this product and your channel shows more interesting review. I'm happy that my passion on drawing is back again. Thanks a lot!

Thank you for making this video Jason; it was so helpful to me. I too have seen a lot of artists using pastels recently and I want to give it a go. I haven't used pastels in years, but I'm really looking forward to it!! 😊🖒

Lovely lovely drawing. I am trying out pastel pencils as well, they seem to blend together beautifully unlike my attempts with colored pencils. I like using silicone color shapers to blend them as well.

Totally covered the problems I had when I tried. Will definitely have another go. Though when I asked in the art shop about velour paper they didn't know what I meant. Will ask for pastel mat next time. Thank you for doing this.

The velour paper is great (& different) to work on & you can get it from several places all around the world it just depends on finding the right stores :) I'd give both a try :) I use both as well as the Mi-Teines Pastel Mat & Tex paper too. All good

Hi Jason, do you have this little leopard guy available as a reference photo in one of your DVD's? And if so, would it be the full face? Thanks! Thanks for posting these videos and the bigger ones on Patreon, I am learning so much.

Are those conte crayon sticks? That's a great way to use those. Suppose the pastelmat really helps. I just got tiziano pastel paper for Christmas with derwent pencils... Not as textured I'm assuming but wondering if you've used the paper before? ⭐ PS.. Absolutely wonderful drawing. 💓 may even try do something similar for a study/test run with the new pastels. Oh, and have you ever tried mungyo?

Do you plan to continue doing pieces in Pastels and making videos on Patreon for them? I am not interested in painting but would LOVE to learn more about using pastels and your work is stunning (especially since you've just started using them!) I will definitely be going to join your Patreon to see the longer version of this piece but I hope you will continue to more pastel videos :) Do you have to use a fixative when your piece is finished? (or how do you keep your work from smudging?)

I have 4 questions about joining patreon please (I didn't see a place at that site where I could ask questions). My background: I can paint well if I have a pattern; I'm just learning about pencils. I'd love to try your methods/supplies, but I can't draw a thing; seriously, I can't even draw decent stick people. Question #1: I saw that one of the membership levels comes with line drawings--is that for every video you teach? Question #2: How is payment made? That is, could I pay for my membership with PayPal? Question #3 Are the videos ours to keep, or are they viewable only so long as our membership is active? Question #4 Can we upgrade/downgrade our membership level at any time? Thanks so very much! Barb

Thats bad ass!! So happy you talked about pastels I've been so interested in this medium but no one is out there really talking about actually how to create a project. There are a lot of people speed painting and junk but not really instructions for realism without the fluff. There is one guy but he's really hard to listen to for any length of time ugh, I'm sure you know who I mean. I love cp but like you having trouble with the backwards light to dark. Headed over to Patreon now. Loved the video. Your awesome!
@wildlifeartjm8 жыл бұрын
thank you Ginny for the support - yes there is not many tutorials for pastels - and they are such a LOVELY forgiving medium :) I would love to put long videos on here for everyone, but my data analysis shows 90% of people on KZbin only watch a video for 3min or less before leaving :( which is why there are sooo many speed videos :(
@ginnytalbot91258 жыл бұрын
Jason Morgan - Wildlife Art I'm sure that's true but you have to take into consideration not everyone is interesting for more than a few minutes. I appreciate the time you take to make these videos and put yourself out there.
@wildlifeartjm8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ginny, I do, that is why I do the long free videos on here as well when I have time ;) perhaps it would be better for me to do 5 min real time, but go from scene to scene? let me know what you think Ginny.
@ginnytalbot91258 жыл бұрын
Jason Morgan - Wildlife Art you are very talented and I enjoy the videos the way you have them set up but watching real time for key portions is so helpful.

Has anybody tried Canson pastel paper and had results inferior to this? I bought knowing Canson is a good brand and the texture shows through in what seems to me a cheap way, even after some layers. I would like to know if it is just me or someone else had the same issue. This pastelmat looks so much smoother
@jpwartist8 жыл бұрын
Alejandrina Canson Mi Teintes is regarded by many as the best pastel paper you can buy. Are you using the soft pastels and blending it with stumps or fingers? Pastel pencils wont blend very well.
