Thank you Jason. As a struggling artist in South Africa where options are few, I really appreciate these kinds of videos. They help me to make informed decisions when I have to buy art supplies on a tight budget and can't afford to buy the wrong products. I also feel confident on your recommendations when I have to buy products from overseas and have them shipped to me.

I bought these and I had a hard time with them, since I’m a newbie I thought it was me. Thank you for this.

Thank you for posting this.. I had these in my Amazon cart and very grateful that I saw this video before I wasted my money.. I would rather spend more and get something that I can use without getting frustrated.. Thanks !!

Thank You Jason! I have often seen the set of these Kalour and wondered about them. I must say though, the saying "You Get What You Pay For" I believe REALLY applies to pastels and pastel pencils! I spent much $$ on the sets I have, which include the Caran D'Ache and Sennelier Soft ones-and they are worth every penny. Even with the new Canson Velvet paper that has some difficulties with my Pitts and Carbs- the more expensive Carans and Senneliers have no problem. Just my opinion, but if a person is going to pursue a hobby with pastels and want something good resulting (and they will have something good if they follow your instructions!) then invest in the higher end pastels and pastel pencils!

Thanks for the demo Jason. It certainly highlights the difference between the quality of a cheaper brand and the Pitt or carbothello. The fact you used pastelmatt definitely helped but I'm sure anybody without your expertise would have a devil of a job to carry off a passable piece of work. This demo just goes to prove you get what you pay for and that it is worth spending a little extra and buying the best quality you can afford.

I totally agree. I bought these pencils 7 months ago and they are terrible. Will not buy them again. I bought a full set of carbothello and haven't looked back and my son has bought me a set of pit pastels for Christmas. Lucky me. Your posts are so helpful. Thank you so much

Thanks for this, Jason. With the astronomical prices for good-quality materials, I am often looking for cheaper equivalents. I just have to save my pennies and get the more professional gear.

Could you please suggest one cheapest pastel pad for pastel pencils, instead of pastalmat, pastelmat sounds bit costly
@brittanydaniels1102Ай бұрын
No, because quality materials matter instead of the cheapest pastel pad that is cheap quality pastel paper that is not good to do pastel art on at all.

Lovely demo, as always. That was a lot of dust fall. Nothing as annoying as that special sound you hear as the tip of your pencil again cracks off (insert swear word of choice) 😅 Unless it's that time yesterday when I managed to overturn the entire tiny cup of Gamsol onto my colored pencil project. Oops!
@wildlifeartjmАй бұрын
these cheap pastels did produce a lot of dust unfortunately

I've had these pencils for a few months, this same color breaks easily 'Aubergine'. I'm a beginner.

Oh wow, that's disappointing. I just put these in my wish list last night; guess I'd better take them out again. I wish pastel pencils weren't so pricey.
@wildlifeartjmАй бұрын
your best value for good quality is carbothello
@brittanydaniels1102Ай бұрын
@@wildlifeartjmDon't you mean Stabilo CarbOthello instead of just carbothello?
