I actually went to this transfer while the LDS church and so if it was beautiful amazing I loved it but when I find out that in the heavens you can basically become like God and have your own planet that’s where it kind of just went downhill from there.

It would be nice to hear you and Joy talk about the role of women in the Church. This is something on which a lot of denominations, including the LDS Church, do not agree. Some churches ordain women (very few (such as Episcopals) in very high roles), some allow them to be leaders in a separate part of the Church, and few allow them to only be lay members of the Church.

Maybe speak about evangelists who do have temples and their beliefs about them? I've seen a baptist temple before... on my way to Virginia. I think it was in Kentucky. I was so surprised! I had previously joked years before with some of my children while traveling once when passing by one of our temples that had some weathervanes (Logan) that looked like crosses on the top of the temple instead of the statue of the Angel Moroni. I asked them to guess what that building was. They had guessed it was a Baptist temple 😆 I found this very funny since my baptist friends in high school had taken me to their church where such things in my church were made to seem very evil, but I had a feeling at that time it was fear and superstition. So, I'm very interested in why there was a Baptist temple, if you have any knowledge of this. Thank You!

It's very interesting listening to Jeff and Joy try to make a distinction between faith and works. They are correct that simply going through the motions does not generate a deep and personal relationship with Christ. He taught that fasting in sack cloth and ashes availed nothing because it was done for the approval of men, not God. He also taught that placing a gift on the alter, if done grudgingly, brings no reward. So, the motivation for doing good works is critical. Yet, neither does simply declaring that you love Christ without "going through the motions" generate the desired relationship with Christ. He taught that those who love Him would keep His commandments. So, while there may be a theoretical distinction between faith and works, the the two don't really exist without the other. True works are a product of our love of and faith in Him. Consider the marital relationship. If both spouses are simply going through the motions, they won't develop the deep and abiding love that sustains a marriage. On the other hand, if the spouses frequently proclaim their love for each other without doing all the small things that are necessary for a marriage to function, the marriage is apt to fall apart. It's important to say nice things to each other, but it's also important to do nice things -- such as really listening to what the other is saying -- for each other. In my experience, a healthy marriage is built on a foundation of both love and works (motivated by that love). I think that's true with our relationship with Christ.

My wife and I had a similar discussion to this and we also talked about how her and I sometimes are going thru the motions in our own relationship and have felt distant- even as we are raising our kids and coexisting amicably together- yet we feel a disconnect. All the things we are doing together are important- but sometimes our relationship is still weak. Likewise- if we obsessed over one another and ignored our other parental demands our house and family would be in ruins.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I find it refreshing that although we might have doctrinal differences we can have conversations that allows us to share those differences in a respectful and meaningful way. God looks upon the heart so he takes that into consideration in the eternities. Jesus paid the price for sin for those with a broken heart and contrite spirit. His death made it possible for us to live again. In other words he broke the bands of death but where we live in the eternities is based on how we conducted our lives /- our faith and testimony a Nd applied his teachings by loving him, our fellow men and women thru service to others.

That is so refreshing to see people who, despite great and fundamental differences with another group, are still willing to understand them on their level, and within their context. *That* is what honest discourse is about. As a convert to LDS, the first time that we went to the Temple open house, I did feel the Spirit was there even before Temple was dedicated. I love to go to the Temple. Temple means both our own body and the physical building of the Temple. We need the Temple to do our Chinese ancestors' baptism, etc. Many of my Chinese ancestors did not know about Christ or were never got baptized.

This was great! There are several things I wish I could chime in on but to keep it brief, when you were discussing “progression” and “becoming” - you seemed to focus on EARNING a kingdom, where we don’t necessarily view it that way. We are focused on becoming like Jesus Christ - learning to live as He would live. And His heart was definitely key. That is as much the goal as is being with Him in His presence in Heaven.

I agree! Temple work is simply entering into a covenant with our Heavenly Father to follow His commandments and to do our best. After we have done this, we go back to do service, so that those who didn't go through the temple while they were on earth have the ability to make those covenants with Him.

Amen! It's interesting, we believe in one sense that the evangelicals are right. By believing in Christ and surrendering to him they find rest and will live with him for eternity. But we also believe that Christ invited us to receive more than just rest, he invites us to receive everything he has - including his character, his likeness, all of him. We believe everything Pastor Jeff is saying and then that Christ is offering us more than that if we want it. And we don't earn any of it, we receive it from Him.

This is one of my favorite videos so far. We do believe we are temples, and can invite the presence of the Holy Spirit anytime and anywhere. The physical temple is sacred because of the ordinance work that we do there, but if we are living in a way that is conducive to the spirit, we can find rest in our daily walk with God no matter where we are. I find rest in my daily personal worship.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints, I can tell you that the progression and being on the covenant path that sister Freeman is talking about isn't stressful. It's a great way to keep us in tune with the Spirit and not becoming stagnant in our love for the Lord. Always learning, always growing, helps to guard against the adversarial temptations that the world can trap us in. Keeps me on track, and above all I think thats what all of our "works" that are done for others is about too! We're not saved if we don't endure to the end.😊 Thanks for the great conversation!

Great video! One thing that I found interesting is that when comparing and contrasting beliefs I felt that (as a Latter-day Saint) I agreed with almost all of what Pastor Jeff was saying. For example although you disagree with the notion that our purpose is to grow and progress, I agree with you that our purpose is to surrender more to the Lord. That subsequently leads to progression. So although Gods plan is for us to progress, our focus is to surrender to his will. When we do that the Holy Ghost sanctifies us and we become more like him.

Your wife is a great addition and I especially appreciate her bringing up the HEART. It's a scripture I quote often, and is key to working out your salvation in this life and the one to come. So wherever you fall on the covenant path; be it non-religious, having accepted Jesus Christ by being born again, or entered into additional covenants for exaltation, it's a personal journey that God will judge based on our hearts knowing full well our intentions. You can't cheat and lie your way through the pearly gates, but God is faithful and will allow you opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to demonstrate your commitment and love to Him, and if we fall and have the desire to get back up he'll walk with us to return to His presence. But even after all that, the bridegroom will come and if we've wasted all the opportunities because our heart was focused on the things of the world, eventually we lose our reward…

Basically we really believe the same about our relationship with Christ. It just comes down to semantics. The born again experience is very real for Latterday Saints who seek it. It certainly was for me at age 18, when I surrendered my heart to Jesus and He made me New! Real, life changing and in my adult life, I am learning to rely on this relationship and the power of the atonement to pull me through every challenge. I bet our experiences are very similar, because Jesus Lives and loves us all. He answers the call to find Him, readily and eagerly. He wants us to learn to trust Him, have faith in Him and come back home.

Also, for those members where a temple is still too far away (getting to be less of an issue), these members can still have a temple recommend, and their willingness and desire is what God cares about. Those saints, like people outside of the church, or who never had a chance in this life to accept the gospel, will have a chance to accept the ordinances done for them by proxy after they pass away. There are something like 150 temples in operation and another 150 either announced or under construction since 2018 - so temples are becoming more and more available.

You said everything I was going to try to say in response to that but better. 😂 I was nodding along with so much of what you and Joy said. We very much do see our relationship with Christ and conversion being even more important than our actions. As Joy eloquently explained, we can be “doing” all the things at least publicly and not really have a relationship with Christ. We can also do all the “right things” publicly and do horrendous things privately. We do know that works alone won’t save us. We very much believe it’s the desires of our hearts (which manifest in our actions, especially when no one is watching) that we’ll be judged by and not just if we checked off all the “right” boxes while we were living. We also know we’re human and even if our hearts are willing, we will sometimes fall short. So we’re VERY grateful for Christ’s Grace. Without Him and His atoning sacrifice, none of us could be saved and return to live forever in His and our Heavenly Parents’ presence. It wouldn’t matter what ordinances we received if Christ had not fulfilled the demands of justice.

I think having a belief in a full potential makes it clear why we would desire to yoke ourselves to the Lord so we can move forward towards something greater that what we are on our own. No checklist or ordinance can do for us what Christ already has, but these are ways that we can deepen that relationship and walk in His ways. Reading scripture or prayer are essential for MY spiritual growth and understanding. It is all about the balance of doing good because we delight in Him, while also surrendering to His timing, His will, His grace, and His light to direct us and lead us through this life.

As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I have often wondered what other religions believe; where we are similar and where we differ. It has always surprised me why people battle between faith and works. Group A throws out 5 scriptures to defend the need for works, and Group B responds with their own 5 scriptures to show how it is the grace of Jesus saves us... But the fact that there are 2 points of view, with scriptures backing up both, just proves that we need both! It's not one of the other, true grace doesn't exist without obedience, and obedience is never sufficient because we are imperfect. Even if we did ALL we are commanded to do, we need Christ's grace to save us (so we truly can't boast) but God's grace can't apply without our obedience to Him. We need both. It's one thing.

I love your channel! I love watching you learn how to speak “LDS.” 🤣 I also love learning an Evangelical Protestant view of general Christianity and beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I love the overall mission of learning to appreciate our similarities and understanding our differences. Covenants for me, as an LDS member, is not just a checklist to obtain Celestial Glory. All or Most of my Protestant friends always try and put an emphasis on our works aka covenants and ordinances. I also understand the context of why do to a general emphasis on grace with my Protestant friends. (Sorry fir the generalities due to attempting brevity or keeping things simple) I did appreciate the attempt to show a balance in your discussion about how one side is a little farther one way and the other that Thee the other way. I wanted to address the LDS belief in being a Child of God and the ordinance of baptism. Yes, LDS believe that we are literal spirit children of God, but we also believe we are spiritual born into the family of Christ when we are baptized. The baptism symbol is literally to be born again. Or even death and resurrection in the sense of the death of our old selves and the “resurrection” of our new selves as newly born children of Christ. We literally covenant to take on the name of Christ as his children. I also believe that baptism is only a symbol. The ordinance is a promise but it is void without the Holy Spirit of Promise. I believe the Holy Spirit of Promise is the LDS term for being born again. It is that spiritual relationship with Christ and the spiritual confirmation that one has been born again. That they are renewed in Christ. That with His Spirit, we can become more than we are and start the process of being sanctified. The ordinance and promise and works is the justification, but being born again, or the covenant being confirmed by the Holy Spirit of Promise, the spiritual confirmation of being renewed in Christ, or even a Baptism of Fire are all terms for the process of being born again. To me, this is the beginning of a process of being sanctified through Christ. The ordinance can justify us, but only the Spirit of Christ can sanctify us. Only Christ can make us worthy to return to the presence of “A Holy God” or our Heavenly Father.

An analogy came to mind: The covenant path is like a marriage. It starts with a "contract” but that doesn't guarantee a strong marriage relationship. You have to "work" on it. On the flip side, a couple can cohabitate without a marriage contract and have a great relationship but their union would not be officially recognized and the things they own and the children they bring into the world would be on a more unstable family foundation.

@@alumniadri8716 I completely agree that Christ is the "sure foundation" and a family built on him has the most stable foundation possible. However, my analogy was specifically meant to compare how marriage specifically affects a family relationship. I'd assume that most people would agree that a family built on a marriage is more stable than a family built on cohabitation.

I enjoy your honest discussion a lot, you are a lovely couple! As listening I am thinking. In the church it is taught and I believe it that the House of our Lord is a House of order. There are countless people on earth that we're never taught the gospel in earth and could never decide for and against it. For those that love truth and want to join the church they still can if they decide to. Even after they have died. Every time I went to the temple i experienced increased faith and closeness to our Lord. It ist a place of peace and closeness to our Lord. Plus a place of service. I just love being there. To me it is one of the sweetest and most uplifting experiences.

Jeff, your timing of starting this channel has been PERFECT for me. My husband, son and I just had this exact discussion last night… but you and Joy have articulated it much better. Emily’s teaching is a much better representation of our true gospel doctrine. The LDS church has spent decades focusing on WAYS to walk the path with Christ (rules), but they’ve missed the WHY we walk the path. Emily is “next generation” LDS - she has spent years trying to help her LDS friends understand that we’ve missed discussing and understanding GRACE because we were focusing lessons on Sabbath practices, modesty, temple attendance, word of wisdom rules, etc. She is one of the most important voices for the LDS church right now. I know her personally, she moved into my neighborhood 20 years ago. She is still as sincere and genuine as the day I met her. She is the voice I’d point new investigators to. Thank you for this video. (ps. your wife is beautiful!)

President Nelson has said beautifully that "In God’s eternal plan, salvation is an individual matter; exaltation (the fulness of salvation) is a family matter." I would submit that LDS theology is a bit more nuanced in terms of how we talk about "salvation". We tend to have 3 different things in mind when speaking about salvation. Firstly, we believe Christ brings salvation from physical death by means of universal resurrection. There is nothing anyone can do to change this, no matter how good or evil they have been in life, all will be resurrected. As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive (1 Corinthians 15:22). Plain and simple. But that's just one way in which we speak of salvation, and it is independent of one's personal works or actions. In this aspect of salvation we would agree that Christ has done all the work and by His merits we are saved. Beyond this, one must be baptized by proper priesthood authority in order to pass the gate to the Celestial Kingdom which kingdom is in the presence of God. The Celestial Kingdom is the name we use for what most Christians would consider Heaven. This is the second way in which LDS talk of "salvation". Namely, being saved in the Celestial Kingdom and thereby returning to the presence of God. (John 3:5). The third way in which we speak of salvation is what we call "exaltation". Those exalted in the kingdom of God are couples who, through faith, receiving sealing ordinances (where what is bound on Earth is bound in Heaven and actually made eternal, Matthew 18:18) and making covenants and keeping them, are exalted in the Celestial Kingdom. These are they who are made joint-heirs with Christ in inheriting all the Father has to give. To recap: Salvation #1) saved from physical death through the merits of Christ. (No faith or works required). Salvation #2) saved in the kingdom of God through obedience to Christ by baptism for remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts2:38, John 3:5). (Faith and baptism (work) required.) Salvation #3) exalted in the kingdom of God to be joint-heirs with Christ inheriting all the Father has to give. (Faith and works required). As a side note, when Adam and Eve partook of the forbidden fruit, they transgressed and this merited their respective physical deaths because the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) and God said that in the day that they eat they would surely die (Genesis 2:17). So the Fall of Adam and Eve from the garden was a two-fold fall. First it was a spiritual fall by transgression out of the presence of God which was in the Garden of Eden. Second, it was a physical fall from immortality into mortality. Therefore, because we inherited the seeds of physical death from Adam and Eve (since they had no children before their Fall from the garden), Christ's Atonement takes care of our physical death automatically. However, because every man sins, we must repent and return and walk the path back to our Father as the prodigal son did. Our redemption is also two-fold. First, Christ takes care of our physical death by means of resurrection, and second He takes care of our spiritual death (separation from the presence of God) on conditions of repentance. The first guarantees physical salvation from eternal death, but it does not guarantee salvation in the presence of God. Why not both? Because we inherited death from Adam, but our sins are our own. We are not responsible for Adam's sins or transgression, though we live with the effect which is physical death. Just as Adam is not responsible for our sins. Each person is responsible for their own sins (see Ezekiel 18:20). Therefore, while our sins are all accounted for in the arithmetic of the atonement, they must still be repented of by us individually wherein we take up our cross and follow Christ (Matthew 16:24). We would also submit that in order to receive the fulness of the blessings God has in store for us in Heaven, it isn't enough to simply have faith in Christ, not because Christ isn't enough, but because we aren't enough. We are fallen. We must repent, have faith in Christ and believe Him. Then we are to do the works of Christ and greater works (John 14:12) even as He said. One of the ways we do this is by making and keeping covenants with God. The making of a formal covenants with God is housed in what we call an ordinance, baptism is an example of this. A ceremonial and solemn act with official priesthood authorized witnesses that bear record of our physical act of making a covenant with God to live as Christ-like as we can from that moment on. By proper priesthood authority, this ordinances is then recorded here on Earth and recorded in Heaven. Elder Christofferson just clarified this in his recent general conference talk "The Sealing Power". This is the power to seal on Earth and in Heaven, as mentioned in the New Testament (Matthew 18:18). This is the priesthood authority that makes ordinances eternally valid for purposes of salvation in the Celestial Kingdom of God. Christ also brings salvation in a kingdom of glory (Terrestrial or Telestial, neither of these kingdoms is in the presence of God) according to the laws a person is most comfortable conforming to. God will not force us to return to His presence, therefore Christ said that in His Father's house are many mansions (John 14:2). But we believe that the return to the presence of the Father must be mutual. Christ opened the way for us to return to the Father in the Celestial kingdom or Heaven, but we must be obedient and be baptized by proper authority to enter the gate of heaven. We must also receive further ordinances and make additional covenants which we endure to the end of our lives in keeping, and God will exalt us in Heaven to be joint-heirs with Christ.

I’ve been listening to this again. It’s SOOO good! ❤ 24:50 I think Joy has already said something like this, but in my experience, practice does matter to bring the Spirit into our lives. As someone said in the comments, I’ve been able to feel God’s love for me even when I’m struggling or not going through all the religious motions as much. I know God is always trying to reach out to His children, no matter what they’re doing and that He loves us all unconditionally. That said, when I’m not actively seeking a relationship with God through prayer, hearing His words in scripture or through His prophets, attending church, attending the temple, etc. it is harder for me to feel connected to Him and it is easier for me to get distracted by worldly things. I feel the Spirit in my daily life more when I actively draw near to God, and I feel His presence and the presence of loved ones on the other side of the veil most in His holy temples. They are very special places and a major source for spiritual strength.

Joy is super sweet. We most definitely believe that our bodies are temples. There's an old primary song that says that very thing. It is a temple so that the Spirit of God can dwell in us, and also in the sense that we are dual in nature: we have both a physical body (temple) and a spiritual body that dwells in our physical body. When we die these are temporarily separated. But it stands to reason that if we continue to exist, we will continue to learn and grow. Our minds don't simply shut down and we become part of a mindless blob. What purpose would that be for our Heavenly Father to create offspring to become nothing? "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." (Romans 8:16-17) I testify that all are invited to the holy temple. I also testify that many sacred experiences have taken place in the temples that have verified that this holy work continues in the next life, and all are not lost and forgotten. "...and he (the Lord) inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." At 25-ish minutes in when Joy is discussing the concept of works vs heart, I think she’s touched on something that does plague some populations of the church. On the one hand we are taught that good produces good, basically if your heart is in a good place you will do good things. On the other hand, there are some people even in the church who either feel obligated or have a need to be recognized as doing good works, where their head is more into it than their heart. This is a very frustrating element of human nature and it is important that we do question our own intentions to some degree. I think that’s a very insightful comment. Great to see you both in the video! Thank you both for sharing your personal spiritual perspectives with us!

We do get a lot of misunderstanding about how we believe and I am thankful you are looking at it with an open mind and not looking for fault. I just wanted to touch on Temples a bit here. Temples to Latter-Day Saints is a place of refuge, a place where we make eternal covenants and learn and grow closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, a place where we can escape the world feel peace, feel closer to God, and have a little taste of what heaven is like. While we do believe our bodies are temples and the spirit of God can reside in us, the temple provides a place where maybe for a moment we can separate ourselves from the world and focus on God without the distractions of the world and help recharge our spiritual batteries so that we can go out in the world and have the strength to face whatever the world has to throw at us.

I’m very blunt so forgive me if this sounds contentious. I am not upset or angry at all. Firstly, the temple is not the important point. Like our bodies which as you said are vessels and can house the Holy Spirit, Latter Day Saint temples are vessels dedicated to the work of God. But the important part is not the temple itself but the covenants inside. All that you said about how Jesus sanctifies us is also our belief. There is nothing you believe that Jesus does for us that our church doctrine does not also embrace. You have the Bible’s doctrine and we do too and believe in rebirth and salvation through the atonement. For you it stops there. For Latter Day Saints revelation, scriptures, in short God’s communication and our progression does not stop there.

Conditions spoken of in the LDS church are about bringing yourself into proximity to God- coming unto Him and desiring to be near Him. He will not force us to choose His way or be close to Him, and we can not receive the blessings He wants to give us if we are far from His light. Just like we can not receive the warmth of the sun if we stay in the shadows, we can not receive the blessings of God unless we put ourselves in the right place. His promise and blessings are sure, but He cannot abide the smallest amout of sin in His kingdom (or He would cease to be God and it would cease to be Heaven) and He will not force us to live in His way.

The Bible never speaks of levels of heaven. I Corinthians 15 does not mention it either. Revelation 21 and 22 tell us what heaven will be like. Believers will be all together on the new earth and new heaven serving God and Christ. Believers will be married to Christ. Revelation 19:6-9; No one will be separated on different planets or levels. Women will not be sharing their husbands with other women. The 'other women' will not be separated from their families so they can serve as part of some LDS man's harem of women should he get to the 'celestial level.' God doesn't damn people who deny the eternal principle of polygamy. D&C 132 Heaven is a world of love. Christ has already told us that there will be no marriage or families in heaven.

I am not Calvinist. As far as those who have never had the opportunity to learn about Christ and accept his Gospel, most in my protestant circles hold to two principles: 1. The New Testament makes only commands Christ's disciples to go into the world and make disciples and to love those around us. There's nothing that speaks to our responsibility to reach those who are deceased. This leads to the second principal: 2. God is perfectly righteous, perfectly just and perfectly good. This means we can 100% trust all souls in his hands because in his righteous, just goodness, he will never invite anyone into his eternal presence who isn't supposed to be there and he will never prohibit someone from his presence who isn't supposed to be there. Thanks for the question.

We do believe like you that our body is a temple. Also through the grace of Jesus the temple covenants are about building a close relationship with Christ and God. Everything in the temple is about understanding Jesus and His roles in our life, Personally when my relationship with Jesus increases, then my responsibility to love my fellow man/women increases as well. Thus we understand the two great commands have meaning. I appreciate both of you for helping not take my relationship with Jesus and my faith.

I think there is some nuance between your representation of Latter Day Saint beliefs about covenant conditions and what Sister Freeman was trying to say. We do believe that their are conditions attached to covenants, meaning that in order to keep a covenant that we have made there are certain things that we have to do. The nuance lies in the why. The reason that the conditions exist isn't as a demonstration of our faithfulness, it is because of the change that comes to us when we sincerely strive to keep those conditions. Their value lies not in being able to say "see how much I love Christ as proven by my actions" but rather in how our efforts to keep those conditions work in concert with the grace of Christ to turn us into the kind of people that Christ offers to make of us.

This was an insightful and uplifting conversation to watch together as a Latter-day Saint couple! We really appreciate the connections and commonalities, as well as honesty regarding differences. One way in which I believe you might misunderstand a little bit about the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regarding covenants and ordinances--if I heard correctly, I believe you said that we as mortals are setting the conditions upon which to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and receive salvation through Him. Latter-day Saints teach that it is Jesus Christ Himself who is setting the conditions and asking us to do those ordinances. All ordinances have important symbolism to point us to Jesus Christ. It sounds like Evangelicals teach that Jesus doesn't require us to go through ordinances to receive His salvation. Definitely agree that sometimes we're missing the broken heart and contrite spirit when doing through outward observances-going through the motions. I think that's a lifelong battle for all believers!

I would like to distinguish between being a Child of God and being a Child of Christ. Near the 28:00 mark, you made the refernce that we (singularly) believe that being offspring of heavenly parents is where we differ from Evangelicals who see being born again as becoming children of God. It is perhaps where we differ in believing in a Godhead as opposed to a Trinity where the confusion lies in understanding us. We believe very much as you do that we must be born again, and when we go through that process, we take upon us the Name of Christ (Chistians), we are bound to Him, we are covenant children of Christ. And it is those who lay claim on this covenant relationship (almost like a stepparent officially adopting a child), that we literally become His.

Those who will rise in the first resurrection and the rest will rise in the second and third resurrections, including those who will live in the telestial kingdom or outter darkness-(the actual hell) I would really like to learn how an evangelical interprets the millennium. I wish I could share in a few short words how it was and is my time in the temple that brings me the greatest sense of comfort, peace and hope after a recent tragedy. When my trauma was so deep I could not speak to anyone, I could go to the temple and commune with God. I know I am worthy of Gods love as I am, I strive to be worthy and live in such a way that bearing and serving in the name of Jesus that my life and heart are just examples of a disciple of Christ. The “legalities” have truly become sacred and humbling reminders that I am a daughter of God. I don’t serve to earn my position in Heaven, I serve so that when others that are tuned out of religion do meet Christ, His love feels familiar because they felt a tiny speck of it from me. To bring as many people as possible to the joy and love of Christ . That is what being on a covenant path means to me.

They are preparatory for us to becoming Kings and a Priests, Queens and Presiteses unto the Most High God. The Garment represents the Garment given to Adam and Eve when they were found naked in the Garden of Eden, and is called the Garment of the Holy Priesthood. Inasmuch as we do not defile it, but are true and faithful to our covenants, it will be a shield and a protection to us against the power of the destroyer until we have finished our work which is building the kingdom of God here on earth.

Scripture declares, ‘If ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation, then ye are found unclean before the judgment-seat of God; … no unclean thing can dwell with God.’ He gave this simple rule: ‘Except ye abide my law ye cannot attain to this glory. Now is the time to show reverent respect for one’s physical body. It serves as the tabernacle for one’s spirit throughout all eternity. Physical appetites are to be controlled by the will of one’s spirit. We are to ‘deny [our]selves of all ungodliness.’ We are to ‘forsake all evil and cleave unto all good, [and] live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God.’” Nelson, Russell M. “Now is the Time to Prepare.” General Conference April 2005.

This one was good. Some of the differences mentioned, though, are not quite so different as you might think. Latter-day saints absolutely do believe that we must be born again through Jesus Christ to become His children, even though we were children of our Father in Heaven before we came to Earth and have, through sin, since distanced ourselves from Him. That is the purpose of the baptismal covenant; our covenants are not good works, but a demonstration on God's terms of our commitment to following His Son.

This debate about religion vs relationship, or legalism vs love, can be explained if we look at the marriage relationship, just as Sister Freeman described. The truth is that you need both the loving relationship and the legal covenant to make it a true "marriage." Many kids grow up in the church feeling like they are in an arranged marriage. But the choice is not to take your covenant relationship for granted, but to actually develop that loving relationship with God, seeking personal revelation to walk in the paths he would have you go, and feeling his love heal you.

I found your point of "rest" at 32:20 very interesting. As Latter Day Saints we do have a tendency to talk about striving towards becoming like Christ. Something that I would be interested to hear about from your perspective is the difference between peace and rest. There are many talks about how Jesus Christ is the prince of peace, and about how He brings us peace. I felt the most peace when I was serving my mission and I was constantly striving to do His will and knowing that He would take care of the rest. All I had to do, was try, and let Him in so that he could do what I couldn't. Ive felt the most rest and peace when I have had a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ, while doing things that bring me closer to Him. I love the focus of having a relationship with Jesus Christ being the reason that we do things. Hopefully all of our actions are honoring that relationship. Sorry to go off on a tangent. I haven't watched many of your videos, but I felt the spirit while listening to this discussion. Thank you.

16:56 jeff, we don’t disagree with that sentiment of our bodies being a temple God dwells in. But the idea of having a physical temple does help a person’s mind and thoughts drift higher. They are symbols of Christ. And building them and sacrificing our time and means to build them helps purify our hearts from the world. It is how we show a broken Heart and Contrite Spirit in modern times. It is a call to show a devotion to love of God and fellowmen. 17:47 yes you answered this perfectly here

@@mythosutider88 I feel I'm pretty open to talking about these things as are most Christians but Mormons are so quick to not be interested So if Jeff's making you feel more comfortable in asking actual questions to Christians then thats probably the purpose of Jeff even doing this I know I ask Mormons all the time their views on a lot, could be more open myself, but honestly it's not something that would even benefit at this stage in my walk...never see or hear it the other way around I will add, the Godhead isn't confusing because of the mystery of it but it's confusing because of how someone could come up with that interpretation AND stick by it once you learn and it's made clear that Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit are ALL the same We accept we don't and will not fully understand while Mormons have decided since it is naturally confusing therefore they'll make it make sense...we get your doctrine, it's not "confusing" to us but it is weird you don't see the Bible the way it has been taught and understood for centuries It's like 1+1=2 but you guys say it equals a bigger 1 We're more like "huh..." not "that's deep, explain!" Yeah I can see that. We believe that we belong to the one true church, and all other churches are false. But me personally, I want to know what others believe, and the logic behind those beliefs. I grew up in a conservative household, as I'm sure most mormons do, but I met an older woman in my church that was a liberal, and I was amazed, not appalled. We believed the same things but she wasn't a conservative. So me and her got together quite often to discuss politics. We were both intelligent people, she had about 30 years on me, so I knew that she knew more than I did. (Jordan Peterson said something similar to, 'You have to believe that the person you are talking to knows something that you don't.') So I really wanted to know why she believed/felt that way. I was never a die hard conservative, but I believe that I am a conservative leaning independent. The biggest complaint I have about liberals is that they are easily offended, if not for themselves then for other people. I was engaged with another Christian on another KZbin video about the differences between how we interpret the gospel. I would like to try the same with you, if that's alright. So my understanding so far is that there was no 'pre-existence', the purpose of us being created was to be 'His Image bearers', Adam and Eve weren't in the garden long enough to conceive children, and that's why we are in this fallen state. If I got anything wrong let me know, but I do have some starter questions. Not to test you, but those statements prompt me to ask some questions, like: When is our spirit created verses when does it enter our body? What would've happened if Adam and Eve conceived children and then partook of the fruit? And in a similar vein, what would've happened if Adam and Eve never partook of the fruit, but at least one of their offspring did? Looking forward to a enlightening conversation. Thanks. P.S. I normally don't respond this quickly, I had to refresh my window and was notified about your comment, to my comment. My replies will probably be in similar length as this one, but I might take 12 to about 24 hours to respond. I prefer to use logic when debating/discussing doctrine, but I tend to use the KJV for scripture references. @@troylee4196

The taught doctrine in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that those who had no chance on Earth to accept the gospel will have a chance un the next life, individuals may indicate that you will have another chance in the life to come but it is pretty clear in our scriptures that if you would not accept the gospel in this life you will not in the next life. That said Salvation and Exaltation is in the hands of the Lord so we will definitely perform the works we believe are needed for all we can. I also would not say that we put a lower emphasis on attempting to reach everyone as we believe that this life is the time to prepare to meet God. We also believe that the gosple is meant to improve the lives of those who abide by it. Have a great day!

Christ rendered the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood obsolete, and the destruction of the Jewish temple in 70 AD guaranteed it. 1. Jesus Christ is our living Prophet, Priest, and King. 2. Jews no longer have any priesthood. The genealogical records were destroyed in 70 AD. Only those from the tribe of Levi had any right to the Aaronic priesthood. (Of course there is no temple to perform sacrifices anyway.) Only someone without father and mother, King of Salem and King of righteousness qualifies for the Melchizedek priesthood. @@Elizabeth-rk3do I appreciate you sending me the scriptures you found though I find nothing that days there must be only one temple. Your scriptures reflect God's dealing with the jews. But after Christ came the gospel is taken to the rest of the world. Also as the jews in old testament time moved from Israel into other parts of the world they set up tabernacles and temples such as in Egypt, Ethiopia and Greece. People could the further they moved from Israel they could not go to the temple in Jerusalem to perform their sacrifices so that is in keeping with what the Book of Mormon describing the nephites building a temple here.
