Jeff, thank you for always pointing out where we are similar in our beliefs and not criticizing. In the past 20 years, I have attended events with my friend at her church. Many times, they single out The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and criticize us at these events. She always apologizes, but I think, "Why can't you be like Jeff the Pastor and kindly explore where we are the same. You are a breath of fresh air. I hope other churches will realize that we as Christians need to band together against the evils of the world, not criticize and divide each other. Thank you!

Both men are well Studied and I admire their knowledge of the Scriptures, Tylor is a Great teacher, his heart is welded to the Words of God, both biblical, and Book of Mormon, he can recall all those scriptures. I just admire that in him, you can tell that he eats literally his scriptures, would that we all could be that way. Now the pastor he loves the Scriptures too, but you have to hand it to Tyler not only does he know the Book of Mormon but he knows the Bible also and he loves his scriptures. You can tell that, great job both of you but Tyler fantastic and you must have a photographic memory! I’ve really appreciate the go between, because it also teaches us that we can have conversations,thank you Both!

When you talk to people like Tyler Griffen, Pastor Jeff, how do you not understand that this is true scripture? Like you really think Joseph Smith just invented this richness? It’s actually ridiculous to think he did when you understand the richness of the text. What are you waiting for brother? Look at what is before you . The restitution of all things, the fullness of the everlasting gospel.

Thank you for your patiently looking at similarities vs obvious differences. It lifts my heart, during deep seeded hatred growing towards LDS members, and as a result a protective / distrust towards fellow Christians on LDS part. I would live to visit with you heart to heart. My life long journey being 'born in' and expected to be perfect by the faith has been so heavy, that I have stepped back or aside, but have not 'stepped out' of 'the church', and really struggle. I have considered 'disconnecting' from Christian activity due to a betrayed and broken heart. Essentially, live good, (rightly) and look to clarity AFTER this earthly existance for whole / full understanding. Thank you Jeff for having a heart based in Christ, and His Unconditional Style of love / caring. You are refreshing, and spiritually attractive to my battered soul.

Numerous LDS prophets and apostles (including Orson Pratt, Oliver Cowdery, Marion Romney, Joseph Fielding Smith, and more) have said the Hill Cumorah in NY is where the battle occurred. Plus, the First Presidency issued a letter in 1990 stating that the church's official position is that the battle took place at the Hill Cumorah in NY. The claim that there is another Hill Cumorah in Mesoamerica is an attempt to explain away the lack of evidence in NY.

Wow, the mental gymnastics that the professor purposely purports. As though his gymnastics are rational and normal. And it is so obviously not normal. Life member here and this guy is just embarrassing and can hardly look the pastor in the eye. I guess when you try and be so acquiescing and keep a silly happy smile on your face then one thinks they can get away with irrationality and absurdity . And both skip over the fact that the revision "...are among the ancestors of the American Indian" contradicts The canonical scripture quoting Moroni ; "... giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent, and the source from whence they sprang. " The self-authorized pastor really gave the professor so much leeway.

When I went through the temple for the first time I was a little shell shocked at everything. I wasn’t sure if I was converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ anymore. And I remembered something that Joseph Smith had said and that I had read. He stated that the devil can appear as an angel of Glory (as he most likely did with Eve.) Joseph taught that you can extend your hand for a handshake to that angel. If it is a resurrected angel, the angel will shake your hand, if it’s not a resurrected angel the angel will look at you, and if it’s a devil, it will try to shake your hand to deceive you but it won’t have a body so it won’t be capable. I realized that if I met an angel of Glory I would use my temple experience (this story was not in the temple) as a tool to discern if this angel was of God or not and that’s when I realized I was completely converted to my temple experience. I imagine if you continue to dive into the Book of Mormon enough you will have a similar realization. The Book of Mormon is a continuation of the word of God and it cannot be denied by any Christian that searches for the Word of God in humility and Honesty. Good luck on the path.

The book of Mormon calls the stones"interpreters" and only after the book of Mormon was published did they get equated as the urim and thummin of the Bible
@micheleh3851
@micheleh3851 Күн бұрын
@briandavis6898- Not quite. Read the history of Joseph Smith and his own account of Moroni appearing to him 4 YEARS before he ever even had the plates in his possession. Way before he had started translating the plates and way before the BoM was published. It was Moroni who told him that there were interpreters with the plates, and Moroni who described the interpreters to him, and Moroni who told him that they were called Urim & Thummin, which were used as seers, prepared by God for the purpose of translation. The specific scripture is Joseph Smith History, chapter 1 verse 35.

@@micheleh3851 except that the revelation that declare them as the urim and thummin wasn't given until after the publication of the book of Mormon and the history of the church was written 10 years after the publication of the book of Mormon. The book of Mormon never calls it anything except interpreters
@micheleh3851

@@briandavis6898 - The publication date of events doesn't change the date the events happened. The first appearance of Moroni to Joseph Smith and the words of Moroni saying the interpreters were Urim and Thummin happened many years before the publication of the Book of Mormon. The name of the translation device or even what devices were used is not what is important. What IS important is why an ancient record was translated. To testify of Jesus Christ. Period. I'm not sure why you are hung up on the publication date of Joseph Smith's account of Moroni's words.

An entire pageant was dedicated to the Hill Cumorah. This seems to be a classic case of gas lighting if the church now says that the Hill was not in the North East US. I guess with the popularity of the internet, the advancement in science in DNA and archeology, SLC has to say something about the lack of artifacts in the mounds and the necessity to end the pageant and the questions that go with trying to explain where the "gold plates" were dug up and hid back again.

Cumorah and Qumran share a common Hebrew root. Both are repositories of sacred records. I personally believe the events happened in both meso- and north America (based on my reading of the Menintah records), and considering that Nibley stated that Lehi and Hebrews in general tended to wander and name new areas after old areas they knew elsewhere. We might give New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia as examples in our more modern times. The river Sidon would be an example in their time.

I think what would be even more fascinating would be for a Christian pastor to read the New Testament with a BYU professor, or Mormon theology, teacher, because the two perspectives are worlds apart. I was raised LDS, latter-day, saint, and stayed in the Mormon church for 50 years before I read the New Testament in a modern translation, and the scales fell from my eyes. I saw the problems with Mormon theology. Eventually, I left the Mormon church, and consider myself now a Christian following Jesus Christ.

There are no problems between LDD theology and NT Christian theology. All differences between the two stem from uninspired additions produced and perpetuated during the intervening centuries without apostolic leadership.

Is the Hill Cumorah in New York? I don't fully know, none of us know. It just so happens a place Joseph Smith was familiar with happens to be in the book?! But what has been found to date doesn't match his stories so they had to come up with other stories to cover up the bigger story. But we could find out the truth rather easily. The one thing biblical scholars do in Israel is archeology to find out more about history. Mormons don't do that. The Church owns the land and refuses to do any excavation to find out more about their history. Why? Because they know it's all pure rubbish.
@jessekoeven3757
@jessekoeven3757 Күн бұрын
Extensive excavations WERE done on the Hill Cumorah, before and after the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints purchased the land. Time and governmental/cultural cooperation are on the side of biblical archeology. No such cooperation exists for Book of Mormon archeology, at least not until significant damage was already done to any potential artifacts by ignorant or malicious parties intent on perpetuating their own agendas. Time will tell.

Pastor Jeff, it was a pleasure listening to this episode. The message of the Book of Mormon is the same for all of Christianity and the people of this world: "Come unto Christ and be perfected in HIm and deny yourself of all ungodliness" [Moroni 10: 32]. This is what the Old and New Testaments are saying if we have eyes to see and ears to hear. It is not organized religion that saves us it is our godly and divine relationships with God our neighbor and ourselves that will bring us back home to Father and Christ!
