Calvary Chapel was my home church as I was growing up in Santa Ana. I attended Saddleback high and most of my friends and I attended service here. On a Friday evening at a beach picnic at corona Del Mar beach I accepted God as my savior. I didn’t know exactly what it meant then, it just seemed right since I had grown up in a Christ believing family. Looking back now, I thank God for surrounding me with the right friends and the right church, as it saved me and continues to keep me during very difficult times that unfortunately others well…all I can say is that God loves me as He does all of His children and all that we have to do is show up and accept His love, call Him and receive….that’s what I think the Eagles mean when they sing “relax we are programmed to receive” in Hotel California….much blessings to you all, I continue to fight a very difficult affliction, but in that I’ve learned what it means to fall in love with God, I wish you all the blessings that I know.

Remembering Chuck Smith Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa
@mwngw7 жыл бұрын
The 70's was a 'magical' time. I believe the Jesus Movement of the 60's-70's was an actual, true movement of the Holy Spirit (and I am skeptical about HS stuff in the church). Calvary was foundational in bringing millions to Jesus back then. Chuck preached mostly pure gospel, but I was troubled with the rapture and other things. I was saved in '75 at the Costa Mesa location, and loved 99% of the whole Christian culture back then. Those years could never be matched since. However, after decades in retrospect as a believer, I've had to consider Christian ideas beyond evangelicalism. But I will never forget the love for Jesus Chuck Smith instilled in me.

They idolize the man more than Jesus. 😮

Trust me JESUS is the center of our world, not Chuck. We loved Chuck and all the pastors who caused us to open our bibles. Chuck was one of the greatest student and teacher of the Bible.

Chuck Smith is still very loved by many who knew and listened to him. The difference between an idolized person and a servant of Jesus like Chuck Smith is found in their words. An idolized person talks about their ideas and their goals. Chuck Smith's ministry from beginning to the very end was about teaching the Word in its entirety. So rather than talking about Chuck's ideas and Chuck's goals, a servant of Jesus like Chuck talks about Jesus. Don't confuse the love of all these people with idolization. Instead, listen to the Word.

Not at all. We loved him for teaching us about God very simply and clearly and for urging us to know and love Jesus.
