About Jeff Evans //
I'm a 27-year-old husband, father, and youth pastor. I have a Bachelors in Information Technology and I'm working toward my Masters in Theology. I grew up agnostic but came to faith after I got married and my wife drug me to a church, the church I now work at. Jesus completely flipped my life upside down, it wasn't instant and I had a lot of questions but He changed my life. If you are in a similar place, I'd love to connect with you. Comment on any of my videos or connect with me on social above!

My husband died April 28, 2020 from alcohol abuse 😭 this song was all him 💔. When I took his things home from the hospital I finally had the courage to look through it. In the bag was his Bible and it looked like he had been reading it, and in the book of JOB a picture of our son fell out , like if it was used as a bookmark..... I’m so sorry Jaime I couldn’t save you 😭 we love and miss you💋

Please know it was NOT your responsibility to save your husband. That responsibility is through Christ ALONE. It sounds like your husband accepted Jesus into his heart so although he did not get saved from addiction and death on earth, he was saved from addiction and death eternal. You can have hope knowing that your husband is alive eternally in God's kingdom and finally free from the earthly torment. The hope of Christ is not a life free from hurt or death, but an eternity free from it. Much more than the decades we have on earth. Don't be discouraged. I pray that as you seek the Lord, He gives you peace that surpasses all understanding and a faith that stands strong against the feelings of failure that satan is feeding you. May God bless you with restored hope, greater peace, and comfort in your pain. In Jesus name, Amen!

Tom has straight up stated that he's not religious but he walks with Christians. He embraces the positive aspects of several religions but he doesn't think the bible is actually the word of god because he's smart and knows people wrote the bible. The bible is a great story but its a book of mythology. Why would god speak to his profits and do everything he did 2000 years ago and just stop?

New sub! Love this reaction! I just wanted to share my perspective to you on this song. Tom quit everything 4-5 years ago and hasn't relapsed but it's been difficult. I think this is the song he would have written if he had the words those years ago. So he's relating with people from ground zero. That's where it starts, and these are the emotions he felt when he quit. He's trying to help others take that first step without glossing over the gritty details, details that will always feel fresh to him as a recovering addict. Your brain holds on to it all forever to remind you why not to relapse again.

5 years ago I hit a rough spot. Put me in a downward spiral. I was hitting the bottom of the bottle again. I finally took a knee crying and looked up and said lord please take this pain away. I can not do this by myself. I kept praying for days. Finally it was answered. He showed me a way to a person that is now my wife. And today I am very thankful for the things he has blessed me.

Yours has been the best interpretation of this song. Many of us have felt that God isn't listening. Even Jesus while on the cross "My God, My God why has thou forsaken thee"? However, we know that He did hear, He did answer & because of the shed blood of Jesus, we have the power to trample on those demons who attack us. God answers us in His perfect timing & what He knows is best. I thank Tom & Brandon for giving God the glory for overcoming & staying clean. Tom is a Christian. ✝💖

Nice name! Maybe you see it too, but I’ve lately been feeling as if Tom and Nova are finding their way to some universal truths in their lives! I think they are believers and just don’t know it yet. Either way, I see it in his life, reaping and sowing are universal principles. And he is absolutely seeing that in how hard he works in his art. The way Tom sees through the lies of the world and sees the truth of good vs evil and how we aren’t fighting against each other but against spiritual forces. Feels very Ephesians 6:12. Good stuff sir! You got my sub and my support!

I'm not a "Christian" (but grew up in a super dysfunctional but with that strong strict Roman Catholic whip) however today I'm a very spiritual recovered addict/alcoholic who beat up my body pretty badly in those 15 years so much to the point I'm currently disabled and in my conversations with the universe or my "prayers" i don't ask for the object or for the healing or for whatever it is...but I pray for the strength to obtain it or strength to get thru whatever obstacle. I believe I was born a warrior....not a victim or a survivor. I never gave me nor intend to but there's a lot of days I wanted or still want to. And then I wake up the next morning and am grateful for the strength I've been given. The is a pretty fabulous channel. My second video and subscribed 🙌✨🙌✨🙌🤍 I do believe in a higher power (not necessarily the bible) and I'm incredibly proud of you and feel proud to have found and followed you...I believe you have alot more to share and show me. I was raised Christian, and even though I've moved away from the faith later in my life, I've always respected and tried to be understanding of those who believe. I do remember, however, that I listened to almost exclusively Christian music growing up and I almost universally hated it even from when I was a kid, and I think that's because of what you said about nearly *everyone* having these doubts and questions about their faith and belief, but nobody ever expressing them. So much religious music has this kind of gross performative veneer; like they're plastering a big smile on their face and only ever saying the good stuff while ignoring their doubts and concerns. In a religious context music is used as a way to worship and honor God, yes, but additionally it is still an artistic medium that expresses our own feelings and helps us humans connect to one another. I think the reason Christian music has such a bad rep outside of Christian circles is because it so often ignores that fact. If memory serves, the Bible values community, connection, and support pretty dang highly, and there's *so little* religious music that actually allows for that. This song, even though I'm not particularly religious myself, really strikes a chord with me. I've never dealt with drugs or alcoholism, but I can feel Tom's struggle in this song. The way he opens himself up is inspiring, with or without the connection of 'being a Christian'. The value of knowing you're not alone in your struggles, your doubts, and your concerns (about any topic, not just Religion) is truly immeasurable, and that's exactly what this song provides where so many Christian musicians don't.

I appreciate you for your words I feel similarly but not 100% agreement.( I am a big fan of diverse opinions and respectful discussions) I am glad there are still people who can relate even a little. People I am close to are very religious. It's been a facade for so long. Told to never look beyond what is appropriate to portray to the church.. However even those I love with older values and beliefs... stubborn as they may be... they have mostly ( never perfectly) evolved. I have realized The Bible has been translated and thus manipulated by humans. Humans are imperfect, full of greed and selfishness, and ever changing. So the translation may have been misplaced. I won't blindly fallow such course without question. And I express this often. As a collective, society evolves at a rate that laws, education, religion, even history can't keep up. The sin, ( if you will).. the judgement, the hate, the damnation, the flaws of human kind. They will keep evolving as humans evolve... well lol I don't know if humans are actually evolving anymore 😅, I'm just up too late with no one to talk to and I have vast opinions on multiple topics these days. The whole religion thing is something I am struggling with and worse so someone close to me is asking for advice and I am grateful and clueless and lost. Ugh humans ew. Good night sorry to waste your time.

Most mainstream Christian music is more worship music than life music, and most of it is rock/pop and not very diverse which makes it hard to connect with it for some people. Worship music is essential in the church, but more songs with a different message like this one should be played along with worship music. I totally understand your frustrations with Christian music.
@iamjeffevans

This is why I don't support Christians being fake, especially with each other. We should be open and honest with each other, share in our pains, in our doubts, and in our problems. Pretending we are perfect is only damaging to the entire community. So many Christians look and wish they had the faith of Pastor Doug (Made up name) when in reality, he is struggling just as much. Sure our struggles within the Christian faith may be different but we're all dealing with something. I've found a lot of Christian music recently has been moving in this direction though. Talking about the struggle and being more raw and honest. I will say, I prefer that in Christian music but worship music is different. When we sing worship music, we are singing praises to God and those are simply sung in a different direction than regular Christian music. Hope that makes sense. I appreciate you sharing!

As a recovering addict of 12 years from heroin and meth, this song cut me to the bone. I felt everything he said. Especially the line where he talked about like being worse after he stopped. I had the same cry “where are you God??” I just started going back to church after 20+ years of running and realized that every day that I found the strength to not use was God helping me through it. Life as a recovering addict is not easy. But it is doable. To anyone on here that is struggling, know you are not alone. Love the message and the breakdown. Will definitely be watching more

I didn't realize how much I needed to hear this today.. Thank you! My personal demons aren't really addiction related, but I'm still struggling in ways. It's heavy, life.. Remembering this is only the beginning helps. "You only give us what we can handle!!?? I think You gave me too much!!!!!!! I'm not as strong as you think! " I said this just yesterday."Why can't I just be happy and more patient!" " WHY can't I just be happy when I have everything I really wanted in life? Why, why.. why can't I just be Happy... "Those hit me hard. I feel like a horrible person daily because I'm not the mother I WISH I could be, I feel like I fail them Daily.. I know ultimately, love never fails, and I AM trying Everyday to Be Better. That if I were a horrible person, I wouldn't agonize over my decisions and reactions.. It's hard.. So hard. I adore their music. He's raw and relatable. So many musician lack this..

Thank you so much for this review. Just found your chanel and sub'd. This song is both beautiful and gut wrenching because it can relate to everyone at some point in our lives. Maybe not alcohol or drugs but other addictions or hardships. God is answering our prayers because he gave us Tom exactly when we needed him most. The world is a loud, overwhelming place. Slow down, be silent and you will know that God is with you. Hold love and faith in your heart and he will never abandon you. Thank you again, I dont go to church. Some people are too judgemental. I never really felt like I fit. But when I want to feel close to God I find I do it best out in nature. I go for a hike, a walk in the fields or digging my feet into the sand at the beach. Thats where I feel closest to God. Im really glad I found your channel. Thanks again for the great review. ❤🙏 #HangoverGang for life. #HOG

Hey! I really appreciate you watching and responding. I won't lie, I feel God a ton in nature. No beaches close by unfortunately but my wife and I love to hike and garden and just enjoy the outside. With that said, I do find a ton of value in going to church. (Sincerely someone who hated church until I was about 23) Not that I feel God more there but that God puts people around me that teach me, look out for me and I can be myself with. I believe there is probably a church near you that isn't as judgemental as what we've both experienced in the past. I've personally found non-denominational churches to be a bit more accepting. Which is the kind of church I got saved in and now pastor at!

Paused the video at 5:10. I want to add that when someone decides to get clean and turn to God, they are actually putting a target on their backs for the devil. The devil gets mad and is like "Ooh you want to change huh?? We'll see..." and he is gonna go at you harder. He has been studying you your whole life, so he knows what will cause you to stumble. But I promise, God will give you a way out!!! Everytime! Stay strong and fight with the FULL armor of God. Glad I came across this video and happy to see a preacher break it down. I've been hooked to Tom's songs for a while now. Tom and his crew needs lots of prayers, for the reason I mentioned above. The devil is gonna go after Tom even harder now that he is touching so many people's lives. I know that REALLY upsets the devil. I have been clean from hard drugs for 13 years and finally alcohol for almost 5 (took long enough and that was one heck of a fight) I relate to this song so much and his other song especially "I Don't Drink" and "Sober". But this song explains so many people's exact mental battles they face with addiction and their relationship with God. I truly believe Tom and his crew are a Godsend and are saving so many lives. If you have heard Sober or I Don't Drink, I HIGHLY recommend you do... AND read all the comments 💙💜💚 I read through them and pray for each individual that I see. Yall should too! (Whoever is reading this lol) Good day and God bless!!!

I hated who I saw in the mirror... When I finally surrendered my life to God, He helped me see myself in the"mirror" of the word of God, the Bible. I found my true identity in Him! That was many years ago and now I visit and encourage kids at the juvenile detention center. It fills me with joy to bring them a word of hope. Hope has a name.. His name is Jesus!!! It's like that old joke about the flood victim dying and God telling him "I sent you a truck, boat and helicopter". God is always listening the problem is that sometimes he answers in a way that we don't want or that we refuse listen to HIS answer at all.

We've all been in despair, thanking God will not hear a word we say. But to me, God is in your heart. He hears you loud and clear. As human beings, we always want to blame something for the things we've done. Even the things we have no control. We always get our answers. We're too busy looking in the wrong places, whether it be at the end of a bottle or two, instead of looking deep down inside of ourselves. And knowing the answers to the problems but refuse to look at them. It is where we stray away from the truth. And it is in the mirror that you look at a few moments ago. As a human being, you cannot change your heart from where it lies. And then answers you look for will never be found. The Bible is a manual of life on the way humans should live. The way we proceed in life depends upon our actions. And not until you stare truth in the face. You will never get the answers. That is if you think about it. Great video. God bless
