Maybe a little off subject, but I've heard a lot of combat vets say that "there are no atheists in a foxhole". At that point, under fire, troops will tell God, or whoever they prey to, if He will get them out of this, they will be faithful to God for the rest of their lives.

Not to be that guy but I’m a combat vet and that is BS. 82nd airborne Infantry. 2006-2011. I did two tours to Iraq and my atheist views didn’t “falter” during the firefights or the 2 IEDs my truck hit. I respect religions but don’t believe this is true. I don’t need magical beliefs to feel good about death. Death is a natural and human experience.

@jimward204 while I would never take any thought or feeling away from any of my Brothers & Sisters In Arms, and yes it is very true that there are no atheists in a bunker/foxhole, I find our prayers aren't so much about getting us out of "this" so much as it is, in those moments, that our prayers are to watch over and care for our family (by blood & by bone) and our friends. I will say we pray heavily to get out of "this" followed by "and I'll never do it again" when our drink has been way too many and/or when getting back from "all nighters" with 15-minutes to spare before PT -- 😂

I'm 49 and growing up my father was a minister in the non-denominational Christian church my parents went to. At 13, I rebelled and have been agnostic ever since. The past few years have made me question a lot of my beliefs, and artists like Jelly Roll, Dax, NF, Tom MacDonald, among others, have been a huge part of that.

I loved the video, this song resonates with me just because it shows me what my father likely went through when I was young. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 10, but before that all the doctors knew was that I was having seizures. They told my parents one of the reasons could be that I had a brain tumor and they would need to test for it. My father told me that he felt like it was kind of the point he went from having a passive relationship with Christ to an active relationship. He said he got the phone call and turned and hit his knees in prayer in his bedroom, crying, and begging God "Just don't let it be cancer, my life is yours, just let my baby live". He says now that he doesn't think that was the REASON God saved my life, but that it definitely showed him the reality of his need for a real relationship with God.

A personal favorite song. I relate to Jelly Roll a lot. Glad I found this reaction. I’ve had so many of these moments in my life. Most times God has answered and I will say protected me. One week from today will be 12 years since I picked up a drink. Most say that’s not all that hard but when you depend on alcohol to get you by so you don’t feel and go over 40 maybe 50 beers a night it’s a serious problem. Most of my talks or want to be prayers were “please let me make it home. Please don’t let me hit anyone or cause an accident.” Trouble still happens now but having a clear mind is a beautiful gift. Its artist like Andy Mineo, Jelly Roll, Dax, Merce Me, Cody Johnson, NF stuff like that I love to listen to. If I could request a song Andy Mineo Clarity music video though.

Sometimes the harder we try to be perfect, the less genuine we become. It's ok to just talk to God. There isn't a perfect recipe. It doesn't have to be at a church, and it shouldn't be just when you need something. I sometimes think the less formal the better. Peace, Love!!

I think we often go to church and everyone is happy and shiny and a perfect life. We already feel not good enough and sometimes church is the worst, just pray more and just trust more, you have nothing to be upset about look at blah blah and all they are dealing with so why are you upset. This is why people lose faith, hope and any desire to share because of shame and embarrassment. You put on the pretty smile and try to feel anything. This is where you need to meet a therapist and maybe be evaluated for medication if needed to help you. So many people God uses Christian or not to help you. I truly believe God works through many people. When you hear something that resonates and is understanding. You can slowly start to believe again. Never feel bad about being angry or doubting God. He loves us more than anything and is always with us even if it seems like your world is ending. In those dark valleys come ropes and helpers to help get you back to God without comparison, by compassion and meeting you where you are. You may need to just talk not force God until they have gotten out of the pit always. They feel heard and then you become more receptive to seeing God and he has always been there. You don’t lose your salvation because you are lost. Sometime we go through trials to help us do something even if it is just being you. It isn’t perfect and you need to know the slate is clean.Don’t allow yourself to be mean and have those voices say you are undeserving. You are always deserving of God’s grace and mercy you need to give yourself the some compassion. Working as a nurse it is so easy for me talk a good game and pray with them, comfort them where they are and let them know God is with us even when we turn away. He has forgiven you the slate is clean move forward and work on skills to help you deal with past and realize God doesn’t hold grudges. That’s why he sent Jesus. To absolve us of our sins if we truly are repentant.

People that have just entered faith, I agree with this man, he will not solve your problems. A magic man in the sky is not real, but we can be good to each other anyways, you don't need a threat of punishment to try to be better every day, you don't need a silly fairy tale to know you ought to be decent to the people around you, regardless of race or creed or how they choose to live their life.

God is with me everyday. I have conversations with him almost everyday. He has a sense of humor and he never turns his back on me. Yes he allows me to go through hard times so that I can grow and enjoy the good times even more. Many people are waiting to they die to talk to him. That is crazy. He is a part of each and every one of us. He is there all you have to do is talk. When I say God I'm not talking about Jesus. I'm talking about our true God YHWH. The God that told us to worship him on the sabbath ( Saturday ). That is the reason I cannot go to church. Worshipping him on a Sunday is like smacking him in the face telling him you going to do what you want. The church praises Jesus but never mentions YHWH. The way you disrespect someone's name the most is to never speak it.
