This collection of love songs by some of the worlds greatest singing stars covers mans aspects of that most potent of emotions. The emphasis is on dreamy and laid-back ballads, though there is a sprinkling of more up-tempo numbers too; all for your listening pleasure.
The late, great Ella Fitzgerald contributes two numbers to this compilation, recorded ten years apart. Her warm, caressing tones are well in evidence on the stylishly arranged 1929 evergreen I’ve Got A Feeling I’m Falling, recorded some years before she became an international headliner (from the mid- 1950s) under the astute management of Norman Granz. From 1937, we have Ella in the company of The Mills Brothers in Dedicated To You, made at a time when she was the girl singer with Chick Webb’s band. But performances like this don’t date; the poise and professionalism were already there in spades.

POV: I's 1942. You're sitting out on the porch, in a red rocking chair next to the radio watching your little one play in the yard. This is what's playing on the radio, and you're thinking to yourself how grateful you are to have what you have. You watch your 2 year old daughter run around in the yard, in her little yellow dress, picking flowers to put in a cup of water. Your husband comes home from work, and walks up the wooden, rickety steps leading up to the porch. He leans over and kisses you on the forehead. It's getting dark now, so you bring your little one inside. You walk into the kitchen to start dinner. while you're putting vegetables in a pot on the stove, and your husband grabs your hand, and turns you around, and you dance to the radio for a while until dinner is done cooking.

2:37 listen to this while you read. When I was a teenager I can remember dancing the night away once upon a time with my girlfriend. We used to dance slowly to Frank Sinatra’s Stella by starlight. I was a in the navy so I could only dance with her when I came home once a month each year. We spent so much time together when I was home. We hardly ever spent time with our own families, that’s how much we loved each other. Then one day when I was finally able to come home from the war, I got home only to find out she had died in a car accident two months earlier. This news changed everything for me. My best friend, my future wife, my everything was gone forever. I was and still am in so much pain. I want my Cleo back so bad. She’s a memory now that will never leave me. The date is May 31, 2021 and I listen to this song every night while gazing up at the stars. The brightest star is my Cleo waiting for me to be with her again. On some nights while listening to this I can feel her presence with me and I can smell her perfume sometimes. I know she’s gone now but I’m sure she’s still with me some how. Whenever I look up at the stars I can see her eyes, and every time I dance to this song I can feel her body again. I love you so much my dear Cleo. You are truly my everything.❣️

Whether it's a ballad or a swing tune, there's no belting here. The singing is uniformly elegant. What's different here, as opposed to today's singers, is that the individual personality of each performer jumps out at you. We know it's Dinah, Lena, Ella, Kay, Frank, Perry. They're all unique, but all the singing is beautiful. And of course, the songs are great, and each artist lets the words and music shine through.

Worst Username In the World A lot of them were super cheesy, but that's probably how a lot of people in the 70s viewed songs from the 40s. I think we just romanticize the 40s because their lives pretty much sucked by comparison to a lot of the decades that followed.

It was the opposite for me, I had a hatred for old songs because I hear them being played *every single day* ever since I was a baby. Imagine hearing the same things over and over again and never being exposed to newer songs or different genres. It gets tiring for me. She is suffering from memory loss, but she loves singing along word-for-word with these songs. And on days like today, when she woke up in tears dreading the struggles that the day would bring, she was singing along after about the sixth song and even laughing again. What a lift!!!!! He gently caressed your waist and wrapped half of his arms around me to pull you in close. “Tonight, I promise the both of us all the time in the world. We could go to Chicago, we could be on the headlines of every newspaper the next morning, we could have the whole city in our hands by the end of the night, or we could just admire each other, have some easy fun...sharin’ a cocktail or two, go see a show...I wanna spoil you tonight. I wanna love you tonight, baby. whatever you’d like, it's more than fine with me. Tonight’s the night, babe. We’ll have a ball.” You sigh and stare into his eyes, putting a soft hand on his cheek. Can never find a radio station that plays all relaxing classic music that I love. Thank you. Makes me nostalgic for an era I missed but filled with glamour and good music. Can understand how the music and films of the time were distractions from the depression.

Technically, the 40's weren't exactly "fun" in most parts in the world, but I get where you're coming from.

I don't know what it is about old music that makes me feel an emotion I can't really comprehend. Maybe in my past life I was a crooner in those times and the love for this music stuck with me :p

These songs, before and after the war. The days where the crackle of radio could mean hope or devastation, play both these beauties and news of loss. These songs tell the tale of so many lives.

These lovely old songs are from just before my time, but I do remember my parents singing them as they did the chores and occasionally, one of these records would come on the radio. These songs take me back to my childhood and happy days and for that I thank you. Much nicer world than the one we have at the moment.

This music is the only thing that kept humanity from what could have been much larger scale mass insanity during the great depression and the second world war. It's helping to keep my mind intact during these tumultuous times in today's immensely divided America.

This brings back memories ❤️ this is the type of music my beautiful grandma would listen to, her music, what you would hear when going to grandmas 💔 it was just blissful. To be honest at the time I came here after the ending of Avengers Endgame I just had to listen to something so beautiful it makes you cry.
