Pat is a master class in focused singing and it's something people may not even realize is affecting them but it's critical. In every song, she focuses on singing the WORDS not just the notes. So many singers lose sight of this and for all we know they could be singing about toast, But she tells the story by staying present the whole time and puts flairs and emphasis on specific words and phrases as needed to get the meaning across. I mean take this song for example. She has been happily married to the man right next to her for like 35 years yet she sounds like a lady that really did have her heart broken just 3 days ago and she's not going to take it anymore .
