The legendary author and commentator discussed his bestseller "Nixon's White House Wars: The Battles that Made and Broke a President and Divided America Forever."
Pat began his political career as an aide to Richard Nixon in 1966, and served throughout the Nixon administration. His firsthand account adds to the history of what Senator Dole called "The Age of Nixon."

Pat's the best. He is the only politician I ever contributed money to because, whether I agreed or not, he is a truth teller, and always speaks the truth as he sees it.

Great stuff. Problem is no one is listening. Did anyone notice Ferris Bueller’s teacher, Ben Stein asked a question?

FDR is an obvious nominee for the greatest political mind in the twentieth century for US politics.

Why didn’t Nixon bomb Hanoi and mine Haiphong in 1969? For the same reason LBJ didn’t do it in 1964-1968: They were both afraid that China would intervene on Vietnam’s behalf just like it did for North Korea inn 1950. Nixon didn’t go to China to drink toasts to Mao and Zhou: He wen there, in large part, to get the Chinese not to intervene in Vietnam. He got Mao to agree to not intervene as long as the US didn’t try to conquer North Vietnam the way MacArthur tried to conquer North Korea in 1950-1. There was no way Mao was going to tolerate the US on his southern border. That’s why Nixon was able to bomb Hanoi and mine Haiphong in 1972 and get away with it in 1972 but not prior to the China overture. .Context is important.

There was also the issue in China that they hesitated about the Pol Pot regime under Mao. It's the past, there are valids arguments from both sides at the side to get in or not. Anyway there is always the that debate in the US to be isolationist or interventionist 50 years later..
