I mean yes he doesn’t have a “ ring “ but he’s 5th all time passing yards and TD’s , 2nd to only Favre for consecutive starts , he’s 8th all time for QB rating so stats aren’t an issue ... guys like Randy moss , Dan Marino ,etc don’t have rings yet were obvious HOF’ers .

For most people it's do they have rings? If they have rings were they a key component or just riding the wagon? If they don't have rings and aren't a key component, they better be jumping off the screen that makes you think holy cow that guy is great. I cannot say that Phillip Rivers to me jumped off the screen, without you telling the stats I wouldn't expect him to be up there like that. I would compare him to an Eli manning or something like that where it just seems meh

@Ethan Orazietti I have the complete opposite take... Phillip rivers has 8 pro bowls and has lead the league in almost every category a qb has at least once. Sure he consistently lost to the greatest player ever, but I don’t hold that against him(who knows what happens if LT doesn’t tear his ACL and if he didn’t have to play on a torn ACL). He’s the 8th most winningest qb of all time with 16 less wins then Marino with the same amount of regular season games started. He has 5 postseason wins in 12 games compared to Marino’s 8 wins in 18 games. Frank gore on the other hand has 5 pro bowls.Has gone over 1250 yards in a season once, never lead the league in yards or touchdowns. Believe they both deserve it but if one deserves I would say it’s Phil.

I love that we have Herbert now BUT Rivers will always hold a place in the hearts of all Charger nation. Thank you for the amazing performance Philly Rivs! I only hate that our ownership (the worst in the league) NEVER gave you a chance to win it all. Spanos family is cheap, they don't care about winning, they don't care about their players or fan base. In spite of this, Philly Rivs showed up and balled out.

This is a sensible way to look at it. Like it or not, football players are judged largely on the overall success of whatever team they play for, but I feel Rivers' individual performance year-in and year-out is at a level that entitles him to HoF consideration even if the teams he's played for haven't had a lot of post-season success. Maybe not 1st ballot, but HoF consideration nonetheless.

He played all his seasons with Brady, Manning, and Rothlisberger playing for good organizations like the Patriots, Colts, and Steelers. The Ravens didn't have good QBs but their ability as an organization to draft and win was top notch. I don't believe Rivers had a great shot at winning a SB and his best opportunity had a shocking ending vs the Patriots that wasn't Phil's fault. Jordan prevented a ton of basketball HoFs from getting titles and Brady locked up the SB appearances in the AFC for years. Rivers played 17 seasons. He played 16 seasons in the same conference as Brady as Brady took 9 SB appearances. If Rivers played for an organization better than the Chargers. Remember the Chargers firing a coach after he went 14-2. Players used to tell the Chargers publicly not to draft them. I agree with you. He will be a HoFer but probably not first ballot.
