I think one of the other reasons we give PMG a harder time is simply because of the price. With a price point like this, there are some expectations and lately it has been difficult to defend that the palettes are worthy of their price.

I'm convinced that Pat's company have invested in the physical manufacture of pink pigments - the commitment to pink colour stories is so strong lol The quality of the product cannot be denied, but due to the colour story, I'll be giving this a miss (until its part of the sales).

I am definitely giving this one a miss. Most of these shades are pretty dupable within her own collection and the special shades are really disappointing. There is also not much variety in the looks you can achieve with this palette, everything looks pink and mauve. I really hope this one doesn't sell too well and they step up their game with next year's palette and give us what we've been asking for. 😔

The amethyst “special” shade in sunlit seduction is the same metallic formula that the gun metal grey in Moonlit seduction is. You end up left with a dark base after a few hours. That’s it no more motherships for me. I’ve messaged PML to say thanks but that’s it and I’ll enjoy my older ones.

I find it interesting about what you said in the beginning of the video about Divine Rose selling SO well that it changed the game. These safe pallets seem to be releasing more and more. I think this happens with everything in life not even just the makeup industry. Businesses always want to maximize their money and will do whatever it is that the casual base will buy up. I had told myself that I wouldn't purchase any new makeup this year as I'm getting makeup fatigue, BUT the exception was always a unique palette from Pat or Charlotte Tilbury. She's definitely saved me money with this release! That's three palettes I've skipped from her so far, it's just getting bad in terms of creativity or ingenuity. Maybe the cheaper big palette she releases for the holidays will give more than this.

While I still love Pat’s artistry on the runway, her makeup line hasn’t been reflecting her work. As beautiful as this palette is (objectively), I think I can definitely dupe this palette with other shades in my collection, especially within my indie shadow collection since they tend to have flakier, shiny formulas. I have all of these MS palettes but I think this one will be first MS I will be passing on, even on sale. I hope the holiday palette is a little more exciting. I was eyeing Remembrance so I might get that instead, thank you for that comparison. I agree that now I’m looking to other brands to fill that artistic palette void that Pat hasn’t been hitting for me. Definitely going to get the Isamaya Industrial 2.0 sometime in the future. Yes we have these shades in our collection. I think it’s what a lot of people like …the basics, bronzes, and pinks. Sofia Sees Beauty did an excellent explanation as to why Pat continues to give us these shades. I love these shades and I could probably dupe them from my other palettes but I love the motherships so I am excited for my mothership XI to arrive❤.

If I only saw your eye looks, without seeing the video, I would never know you had used a PMG palette. Usually I can spot her textures a mile away. Without the baked shades, and with a color story that basic, I just can’t justify the price of this palette. Even on sale. I agree with one of the other commenter who said that this is the first Mothership that looks better in the promo photos than it does in person. I’m sad that it seems the investors seem to be calling the shots. I miss the innovation and I miss the special textures

I’m so glad to see your video-I trust your opinion because you are a fan and because you know her library of shades. I have been buying PML since her super early initial launch before the Motherships. I still have her tiny pots of loose glitter and golds. You helped me decide to skip this one. I have an August birthday so I usually buy a Mothership for myself each year. I was ready to do it again this year because I really liked Moonlit Seduction. Sunlit Seduction, it seems, is not worth my money because I think I already have these Pat shades (or close enough). Even with the discount, I’ll skip. I’ll keep loving what I already have. I might, however, finally add Subversive to my collection. Not sure why I haven’t yet.

I really, really miss the baked shades. I don’t think the new “special shades” layer the same way or do what they do. I know Moonlit Seduction had no baked shades either. I missed them there, but I found the color story more interesting. I do love the Pat matte and shimmer formulas too, so I’ll probably pick this up eventually. There will have to be at least a 40% discount for me to get it. Or I maybe I actually won’t because I feel like I could do these looks with so many of her motherships or quads (and I literally have them all). We’ll see. Because I’m such a brand fan, I was really hoping the palette would blow me away in videos despite being disappointing on reveal. Nope. I do want to try the primer, though!

When did the baked shades go away and why?

@@Sparky7775 Mothership IX Huetopian Dream had three baked shades and one non baked “special shade”. That was the beginning. Then Mothership X Moonlit Seduction had no baked “special shades” at all. All of the other Motherships have all four “special shades” in the baked formulas. (Well, except Mothership IV Decadence which doesn’t have any other formula except shimmer/metallic). Nobody know exactly why the baked shades have not appeared in MS X or XI. Many suspect it’s because they are much more expensive to make and it’s a cost cutting measure. I don’t know if most people even care, but for me it’s a huge difference. To me the baked formulas are unique and transformative to looks in ways that the non baked special shades are not. Theses non baked shadows are pretty, but lots of brands make pretty sparkly shadows like them. They don’t do the things the baked formulas do.

If the baked shades are that much more expensive to produce, then from a business point of view PMG should be phasing out her older mothership palettes with the special shades instead of selling them with generous discounts. Also, if her older palettes were no longer available, customers might be more inclined to buy the new palettes despite the somewhat repetitive colour stories. I am intrigued as to how long her entire back catalogue of motherships will be available (for convenient prices at that!)

Alicia, you are so right. I think the Trinity will not be replicated and we should realize and accept that fact. After the second divine rose, it is the same to me, just few nice shades that honestly, have better formula and more exciting colors in indie brands (Clionadh, Terra, Devinah). This palette is a no for me, it looks like 3 quads together, does not scream mothership to me. I will wait for the Christmas palette, that has the punch we all want.

Thank you so much for putting out this video. I don’t own any PM mothership palettes. I love neutrals and more basic color stories. During the Thanks30 PM “glitch” I had an opportunity to pick up Sunlit Seduction which I thought would be right up my alley based on my shade preferences. Something stopped me from purchasing this new palette and I am at peace with that decision. Instead I took advantage of the 2 motherships for $180 with 30% off which was a great deal imo. I purchased bronze seduction and divine rose 1. After watching videos on those 2 palettes and now this one, I know I will love what I bought way more. The special shades in the new palette are nothing in comparison to the special shades in the 2 I mentioned. Thank you again for your in depth, unbiased reviews.

Thank you for this thorough review - when I saw the promo, I thought this palette was coming home with me. I held off buying Divine Rose I as I thought it was just a tad too cool-toned as well as Bronze Seduction, because it was too reddish. When the pictures for Sunlit Seduction came out, I hoped it might be the perfect love child of the two and rejoiced. But now that I'm seeing it in live action, it's a miss for me. It pulls a lot more coral-y orange than I thought it would. Looks gorgeous on your skin, but would look terrible on my pale olive teint. I'm also disappointed by the astrals. Not because they're not pretty, but because they lost the topper quality. Now they look like any other metallic with just some more pzazz. What I thought would be bright pink is a lot more red. The amethyst one is gorgeous - I'd buy that as a single in a heartbeat. But I can't warrant spending 100+ quid on just one colour I love. Fingers crossed for the holiday releases!

I received mine today and I have to say, I really love these shades. I haven't applied them on my eyes yet, so my feelings about that are TBD. What I find interesting about all these "pink" palettes is that not all of them have the same appeal across the board. I have LOVED Huetopian Dream since the day I got it and Moonlit Seduction is so sophisticated. I recently bought DRII and don't find myself enjoying it at all. I totally passed on DRI. So I think that there's a pink palette (or two) for everyone across these motherships. Although they're all pink, they're not one size fits all. I think this is also probably my first "basic B" palette, so it's going to be nice to have.

I always appreciate how eloquent your reviews are. You do give a little bit of a personal opinion BUT largely stick to facts. This mothership was a very polarizing release it seems. I'm not jumping at this. I am interested to see what the holiday looks like, as well as M12 (in quality as well as color story). I think this is a very pivotal point for the brand where a lot of die hards that were there from the beginning will start venturing out if nothing changes soon. Money is money at the end of the day, but I think this will be a massive turning point, especially for the OG audience.

Excellent review, as always! ❤You saved me $128 so thank you. I have been living in the Byredo Remembrance palette this summer and my Isamya palette arrives tomorrow. I should be set until you show me something that is a must buy! FYI, I save the little sponge tip applicators that come with quad shadows and use those for the creamy “weird” textured shadows like the red textured shade you had to use your finger for. When my nails get long, I tend to get those shades under my nails and struggle to get them out. You’re the best!

I'm a bit worried about the brand. Heavy discounting, low quality componentry on newer releases, adding Ulta as a retail partner make me wonder it the brand is tight on cash. Those choices really compromise the luxury positioning.

I'm a pink lover. I own No. VII Divine Rose and I just ordered Sunlit Seduction. I'm 75 years old so my main objective is to brighten and soften my eye area. If I was 25, I could rock a dark, smokey eye and/or an array of bright colors, but at this stage of my life, I'm just trying to add a little subtle color back into my face. For my purposes, the emphasis on pinks is fantastic. I purchased both palettes during Black Friday sales, so I was able to get deep discounts.

Great review! It seems like this is the Divine Rose I version that’s more suitable for all (especially deeper) skin tones. Not sure if it’s because Divine Rose I was originally planned as an Asia exclusive/regional release, but many of those shades pulled ashy on deeper skin tones. The shades worked for me because although I have a deeper (tan-deep) skin tone, I have cool-neutral olive undertones.

Within that collection I have a pretty comprehensive collection of all the colours several blues, greens, purples, pinks etc etc. I have to say that whilst they are beautiful I don’t get as much use out of them as I have Moonlit Seduction. For my neutral tone it is perfect and daily friendly. So I’m not mad Sunlit Seduction is going to be similar and to me nothing is quite as special packaging wise or formula wise. I get joy from a mothership and at this point, with enough eyeshadow to last the rest of my life, the motherships are my only definite eyeshadow purchase. It will work really well with special shades. 💖⚡️💓. If it had been in a pink Barbie case everyone would have gone mad for it.

I’m here for the positivity! I think a lot of people will branch out and try PML because of this palette! She will get new customers AND FANS I believe. New peeps who do normal makeup on an every day basis may not spend $173 CAD on crazy dark colours and textures but they MAY just decide to take the plunge with this palette 🎨 especially cuz so many makeup users aren’t “beauty obsessed” and also hearing all the negativity from our community on YT.

Even though it is a boring palette, if I had to choose out of all her pink motherships (I haven't bought any of them past midnight sun) it would be this one. That being said, I still think I wouldn't buy it because I'm so hung up about the baked shades being kicked to the curb😭. I wonder if Pat will start to phase them out of her earlier palettes as well. My opinion hasn’t changed, it’s beautiful but just more of the same. I think PML is at the point where she will continue on this mainstream color way. Her early days are gone sadly. Totally understand appealing to the masses and having to make money though. I’m not sure when my excitement for this brand started to fade, maybe by the 3rd rosey pallet. I am really sad, loved the innovation she offered.

I only have the last 3 Xmas eyeshadow palettes and the first bridgerton one, I've researched all of the mothership palettes in a variety of different ways and this is the first one that I actually love each and every individual shade. I'm not much of a neutral shadow type of person so that's what held me back from splurging on the previous ones, but I feel this is the mothership palette that's worth every penny for myself.

Love your reviews Alicia! The astral shade look very much lackluster and the only reason for buying PMG palettes for me was because no other high end or indie makeup brands in my collection could dupe the baked astral shades of PMG. With PMG changing the formula for astral shades in heutopian dream and moonlit seduction and now this palette, I would need a very very deep discount to even consider picking this one up. Anyone looking for special shades consider buying Adept cosmetics plain jane or seahorse palette, both which are full of special shades. I’m yet to try Isamaya brand but that is on my list to buy next.

Mariam A did a dupe video - A bobbi brown single was a baked shade similar to one of pats motherships. But that one does cost about 50 a pop 😅 And indeed, without the baked shades the motherships aren't special!

@@RoseOfMadina Lol, now that you mentioned Bobbi Brown, her luxe gems palette had similar eyeshadows to the PMG baked blitz astral shades. I haven’t tried the 50$ Bobbi brown single shades, a bit too steep of a price for me personally. The other eyeshadow brand that comes close but not quite PMG blitz astral shades are the Kaleidos cosmetics and those are much cheaper than PMG.

I also grabbed this palette during the “glitch” & used the 30% off code; I also love & appreciate the mini’s for travel … I def wouldn’t have gotten this palette at launch without a significant discount … I own all her palettes & after seeing this video I now feel I could’ve skipped 🤔 it’s pretty but nothing special or innovative; I was also really “off put” with people who’ve left unfavorable comments (& that’s they’re right) & having PMG’s “team” or whoever manages her IG delete comments & block people 😒 why not take the good with the bad ?! also why release this on & off & not everyone was able to use the 30% off code … I’m now honestly considering sending it back once I receive it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll see but this is beyond disappointing … of all her pink palettes my faves are huetopian dream & DR2 … I wasn’t even wowed by moonlit seduction … lastly no more baked shades either … it’s all been several let downs 😭 ugh rant over ! I saw someone, on another video about this palette, rubbing her fingers to "dissolve" the flakes from the special shades and then applied to her lids and it was smooth. I will try this next time I wear PML on my lids for sure.

Cannot handle Pat's formula on my now more sensitive eyes anymore, but: of course i was waiting for this video dear Alicia, you ARE our Pat here, loved the video!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 Would i purchase this, no. I kept palette 7, which is special for me, also the cute pink packaging, and i see quite some variations for this palette, with the exception of palette 10, i think. And palette no. 1 and no 3 were special to me, but my house is not a mueum, that was than and now is now. I'm still quite ok with Pat's cream shadows! I also have ALL of Pat’s palettes and I love them all, but this one is just too repetitive. It’s also too warm for my tastes and with only one blitz shade that really wows me, I’m going to pass. (I’m going to get that eye primer though.) I use her 2022 Christmas palette all the time. Here’s to hoping she gives us one with a different color story this holiday season, because if I see another pink palette from her I’ll be so disheartened. Give us cool neutrals, purples, greens, anything but pink! Thanks Alicia for being honest with this one even though I know you’re Pat’s biggest fan.
