I have played Letters from home and The Road to you (covering best recordings from this line up) non stop when they came out. The cd live version of this track (om RTY) is also pretty awesome. The audience cheering and clapping afterwards is also recorded and at some the whole audience starts chanting the final melody line. Wow how about that for goosebumps and teary eyes. I agree with other commenters, Lyle was a legend! Not sure he was in fact underrated, but he choose to be an arranger and sideman for a long time, cand his influence was significant.

Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays.…Magnificent Geniuses!!!!! I saw PMG 3 times in Los Angeles: Greek Theater, Wiltern Theater and the Pantages Theater. Each concert was amazing. I feel so blessed and lucky. Lyle Mays, besides your family and friends, the Jazz World misses you, and I miss you every day. Thank you and God Bless …

I recall seeing them perform this in Pittsburgh at the Station Square Amphitheater years ago. My wife and I had almost front row seats just to the left of Lyle Mays. LOVED IT! So much so that I remember bustin' a tear (OK, OK..... enough) at the 00:05:14 mark. What a crescendo!! I wish they still performed together. Enjoy!!

Great editing of this music video. It captures the energy and action of the band members. This recording takes off into the atmosphere like a Saturn 5 rocket. What a gift the Pat Metheny Group is.

I was about 20 when this vid came out. Although it was produced a little after the album, I watch it now and it's obviously from 89-92 it captures a pretty specific point in time. . It's beautiful.

Fusion is a term almost as broad as jazz itself with all its incarnations. Fusion could mean almost everything. From tacky jazz rock, via elevator music and Steely Dan pop to WR and Wayne Shorter. This is more like latin jazz (played by some talented midwestern kids).

So inspiring, and motivating. Mellow music that brings me much peace, when so much negativity is going on in the United States. I listen to this music and block out all of the negativity from people every day, relax with my girlfriend, and our evenings are so much better.. As we prepare for the next day, we just think about the music we listened to the night before and calm our minds. That's what people have to do these days. Don't get wrapped up with other people's problems at work. Concentrate on bettering yourself.
