Very nice movie Dave & Amelia, I know this place, my wife and I were camping in the National Park in the summer of 2019 and fished the river were it flows out of the first big lake, we did quite a bit of research before the trip and ended up tying a lot of big terrestrials....everything we caught was on size 16 and 18 black midge patterns lol. Its an amazing area, I can't wait to visit again
@jensenflyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If you know it (and it sounds like you do!) then you know how stunning the scenery and the water :) We were fortunate as a rain had come through and we were fishing a dropping & clearing river and the fish were KEEN! The late summer season and PRESSURED trout are so used to big beetles. We actually spent most of our trip fishing small dries & droppers on lighter tippet and caught most everything - but boy did the fish not want to commit on the bigger foam stuff (except for this video of course!). So, similar to you! :)
@oliverwilliamson39103 жыл бұрын
@@jensenflyfishing Interestingly we noticed that even with the small flies, giving them a twitch was often the difference between a take or a refusal. I was surprised how much animation you gave the beetle patterns but man did it ever work. We were joking that next time we go down there we will tie up a bunch of Earwigs, everywhere we pitched out tent seemed to be infested with them at night, i'm still finding them in the tent seems !
@jensenflyfishing3 жыл бұрын
@@oliverwilliamson3910 :) funny you say that - this weekend's video on a tiny spring creek showed exactly that - a minor twitch got them committed. Fun stuff. Yeah, we twitched the bejeebes out of our beetles because of the conditions - a little murky and up. Lower and clearer, nope! And yes, earwigs and wasps seemed to dominate.

Glad you enjoyed it. This was late summer, extended drought conditions tho on the back side of a weak front fresh that stirred things up just enough that the water was coming down an inch and clearing. Those rainbows were hunting. :) There's a lot of luck in what we do and how we live: we set out to do this and through the years have guided, owned a lodge, published a magazine, produced DVDs and here we are here now... a lot of hard work, some pivoting, but luck & fortune certainly weaves its way into every day. It's not always easy but when it smiles, it smiles :)

Glad you enjoyed it. How was it goofy? Twitch it how they want it and if this is how they want it, this is how they gets it! :)

@@jensenflyfishing Futaleufu River. The river valley just north of the Palena. That extinct volcano cone looks like the Tres Monjas in the Futa Valley, but the water did not look familiar. Serious river. 5,000 - 20,000 cfs dropping at 100 feet per mile. Seriously big fish if you have the skills to access them. Drains into Lago Yelcho. Ask Eduardo. Off of the Palena there is a gorgeous, gorgeous river that I have kayaked, but always wanted to fish. Let me know if you want an intro to that region.

@@martyg4483 we'd love to get through that region but we are here with Eduardo and to feature this region - so many waters and so little time. Hopefully next year? :)

Fair enough, music is rather personal. Glad you enjoyed it :)
