Thanks for this. Somehow I missed it earlier. Nice to come across it today, as I had wrestled over buying the OR (whether I really “needed” a jacket like this). I finally bit the bullet yesterday. I would have preferred the blue hoodie you had, but I found an online reseller clearing out discontinued colors and got one for only $85. For 2/3 off 3/4 off the Patagonia) I can compromise a little, especially if I’m going to wear it in the woods by myself. 😊 I frequently find outstanding deals on OR gear (on their website and elsewhere) as they clear out last year’s colors. I did notice that the Patagonia website says the Micro Puff is still 10-denier, not 20, ripstop Pertex Quantum. So, the OR shell is slightly thicker, but the Patagonia adds Pertex Quantum and is perhaps 2 oz. lighter, but that’s not enough to make me want to spend another $150!

Thanks for the review. You touched on the warmth at around 4:30 but you didn't give a clear answer haha. Did you notice a difference in warmth between the two?

Thanks for the nice note! They are very similar in warmth and I would be happy using either one. I wound up using the OR more as it lived in my truck in my main hiking backpack. The Patagonia got more casual use (as my wife likes the color) So no definitive answer for you LOL. Sorry!

Is the SuperStrand LT hoodie comparable at all to the Patagonia Nano Air hoodie?

Hello! They are comparable, but the Nano Air is going to be more breathable and have good stretch to it. I love the Nano Air and have several of them. They are not as warm as the SS LT or Micro Puff though. More of an active insulation vs a static insulation. Hope that helps!

What the durability on the OR insulation compared to other synthetic option.

I would say the same. I have not noticed any extra degradation, and I have been using it extensively for over a year. Hope that helps.

Hey Sean, love these comparison reviews, something you don't see much of. It's great to see you wear them to give a great idea of the fit and more. I love OR gear, I just find their tops - for whatever reason - don't fit me as well (usually between sizes) as the Patagonia tops. Looks like the OR is a bit more trim on you and not as dense, but probably a bit lighter. Anyway, thanks for these comparison reviews, they are really the ticket (maybe do them on pants, sunglasses, etc).

@@Engearment Thanks Sean! Love OR pants (I have multiple pairs of Ferrosi's, rain pants, etc) and love their gloves (have their top of the line mittens as well as their heated gloves). Just something about their tops and my top that is not a good match :-).

The fit is different. OR is more athletic fit, while patagonia is the better option for guys with a little belly/bigger waist.
