Great review. Thanks for the education on down harvesting. Kudos to Patagonia for taking the lead on that. Hard to balance that vs a pretty noticeable decline in design/execution on their part over the last few years (in my opinion). They are a very socially responsible company. But I've been super disappointed with lots of their garments lately.

One of the problems i keep having with these jackets is understanding the warmth factor. I was looking for a winter jacket, last year's winter was BRUTAL. It is difficult to figure out for what temperature these jackets are made for. Would be great if you hinted at that.

I made my foray into down this year, and to be honest, though these things are warm FOR THEIR WEIGHT, these ultralightweight jackets are generally not warm enough (for me) below 20 or 30 degrees (and even then, only as part of a layering system). I currently use the Patagonia Down Sweater (basically the same as the down hoodie but no hood), and though I'm sure it will be ideal for spring and fall weather, I've found myself huddled around the fire wishing my jacket was warmer during all of my overnight trips the last few months.

when you say 20-30 degrees, i take it you mean fahrenheit, if so then these are a lot more suited to my country (uk)

A bit late with my comment, but I don't fully agree with having some room around neck is a bad thing. You can always use a buff (thin or thick) to get some more isolation and warmth, if you need so, and you can also have a fleece underneeth with a collar. Zip all them up, and it might be too tight, if the outer layer doesn't give enough room around the neck area. Good idea with taking measurements of clothes. Might be harder with shells with armpit width though. I suggest to also measure width at hem. Can be useful to know, how roomy a cloth is in the lower part of a torso.

Can you do a review of the new Arc'teryx Ceres jacket? They say it's the warmest jacket that they have ever made. It may be hard to get a hold of though because of manufacturing issues.

Randy Gilmore I'm thinking of going small in this Jacket but I'm not fully sure that it's a good idea.. I don't have a big frame and I usually wear a size medium when it comes to most jackets. Any suggestions? if all else fails I'll just have to take a trip to my nearest Patagonia store and try on one and see.. but I just thought maybe i'ed ask.. thanks!

This jacket fits close to the body, but not tight. I normally wear a large if I am not concerned with any amount of layering. This purchase was a large also, and fits well, very warm in everything so far except strong cold wind, where I use it under a shell. Excellent jacket, and would purchase again.

Great video! what would your best suggestion for an outer layer jacket for very low temperatures, wind and snow if someone only wants to wear one jacket. Between the price range of $100 - $250
