This is what modular sequencing is all about. I often come to a patch thinking "I just want to sequence the exact behavior", but setting up a little system like this and embracing the constraints while guiding it to the grooves you want is so inspiring. 🙏

This is my dream setup! Control over rhythm and melody with equal amounts of artistic choice and chance. I guess a lot of the rhythmic gates and quantized CV could be done with Pam’s but I love the hands-on nature if this setup. So playable! No menu diving! Thanks so much Ihor 😀👍

How is the Pons Asinorum reacting to gate signals? Nobody seems to use the cv inputs on the module, but they are the most interesting part of the module.
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
I think PA reacts on the gates just like they were triggers. You are right about the CV inputs. Applying some gentle modulation to the decay time is one of the ways. I wonder if you can give me a few examples how'd you use those CV inputs.
@effiksmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@IhorMedia I don’t have the Pons but I often use the time cv input of an envelope (if there is any link on the Doepfer A-140-2) in a jam with a joystick do open a filter and lengthen the decay. If this would be possible with the Pons, it would be interesting. But I sometimes need a sustain phase from a gate.
@Chris-qq7mt2 жыл бұрын
Amazing video! It's not repetitive to my ears either, love it! I have a question though. Does the Repetitor send out different gate lengths, or does the Asinorum have a hold parameter? I'm wondering because I thought I heard variable gate lengths, or did my ears fail me? :)
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand Repetitor just repeats the gates exactly how you send them into it. But anyways the Asinorum does not have a hold. What you heard is different decay times perhaps. Thanks for watching!

Hi Ihor, I'm thinking about putting together a similar case. What do you think of the idea of replacing the Dixie with the Virt Iter Legio? Or do I miss certain functionality if I do that?
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hey Erik! It always depends. I lean more to Virt Iter now, however I haven't even finished exploring it. But Dixie and Virt Iter are kinda different things. Just to clarify: Dixie is an analog mono oscillator with somewhat standard set of waves; Virt Iter is a digital stereo oscillator with a larger number of wave shapes and stereo phase modulation. I can see both of them in use doing their job great! Depending on what you want to achieve with your case, you can make a choice. On top Lagio can be flashed into a different module, which is a big plus.
@eriksmeets92542 жыл бұрын
@@IhorMedia Thanks. I am thing about these modules as "starter". What is your opinion on this? Phase 1: Steppy 1U for the clock/triggers Numeric Repetitor for the rhythm. Pons Asinorum for the envelopes/lfo. Virt Iter Legio as oscillator Phase 2: Mimetic Digitalis Scales Phase 3: Pura Ruina Electus Versio Filter

What do you think about the Zularic Repetitor? I can't decide which one I should get. From what I've seen, Zularic seems more groovy, but maybe Numeric is better for techno?
@IhorMedia2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Honestly don't know, since I've never used Zularic Repetitor. I got the Numeric recently and was extremely surprised how great it is for techno rhythms. Numeric is based on binary arithmetic. It is by definition "tech" hence techno haha. I guess Zularic must be great too. Considering that it is based on African music theory it must be able to achieve some really nice grooves. Which one is better for techno? I think both are!
@mojibake78682 жыл бұрын
@@IhorMedia I've ordered the Zularic last weekend ;) Should arrive this Friday... Really, really looking forward to it. You've made me spend all my money on modules, haha. Btw, if you haven't seen it yet, check out the Cosmotronic Messor! Awesome modular stereo compressor with side-chain. It can really clean up the mix, and provide some of that pumping / sweaty dancefloor feeling.
